La Farge, Wisconsin
This studio-like apartment was once the projector room for the town theater. It is located in quiet LaFarge, WI. A small town with charm. The town has a gas station, grocery store, hardware store, and places to eat. Located within minutes of The Kickapoo River and Kickapoo Valley Reserve. There is no shortage of outdoor activities. Try fishing, canoeing or hiking. This apartment sits above the local flower shop (Peachy Petals) and a beer and wine lounge (The Twisted Raven)
Great place.
It was clean and adequate for what I needed. It’s very cute with nice set-up for 2 adult guests. It is not very soundproof and you can hear everything going on in the bar below it. I would think some construction could remedy that situation. Thankfully I wasn’t there much during bar hours of business.
The room was nice and clean. I was disappointed that tv didn't at least get local TV and news. DVD player didn't work as there was no cord to hook to TV. Other than rhat it was great.
Stayed Fri & Sat evenings, location was key for picking this VRBO. Was above a bar, basically an enclosed loft with thin panels covering open windows to the bar/band stage area. Fri was relatively quiet and tolerable, Sat had a performance and the dozen attendees/patrons in the bar were playing loud music til 2am. Maybe insulation would help but the worst remodeling issue was the unlit, uneven, dangerous staircase.
I am a travel nurse, and I needed a place to stay that was close to the hospital where I am contracted, and this little gem fit the bill. Quiet little rural town, nicely appointed appartment. The property hosts were super nice and answered all of my questions. Some glitches in getting in touch with them, but I think that is Vrbo's fault, because the app isn't a stellar product. The only complaints I had about the property is there is no AC, and it's a second story unit, and it's summer and so, so hot!! Also, the only sink is basically a kitchen sink, but it's in the bathroom, and I don't like washing my dishes in the bathroom. Not really the owners fault, because it's an old building, and I know they had to work with what they had, and moving plumbing pipes (or adding extras) can be extremely expensive. If it weren't for the lack of AC, I would have given a 5 star review, and I would definitely have continued to book this property for the duration of my contract. But for me, it really is just too hot to be comfortable. However, this is a great little unit for the cooler months!!
Shower and beds were good, but the rental does not have a working kitchen: no stove and no kitchen sink! There is one tiny window, so absolutely NO air circulation--and no air conditioner. Worst of all is the stairway up to the flat. It is steep and dark, with NO handrail. The flat itself is poorly lit, and the kitchen lamp does not work. Visitors should also know that the flat is above (and next to?)a bar---Peachy Petals--so there is lots of noise throughout the evening hours. Pretty tough.
There was no communication sent to us from the property manager regarding check in process. We stopped downstairs at the floral shop to ask if they knew where we would get the key and they helped us out. There is no A/C and only 1 west facing window which makes staying there in the summer very uncomfortable. The TV didn’t work and there was no Wi-Fi. There is only thin pieces of plywood covering the windows that are above the bar. Don’t plan on going to sleep until after the bar closes because you will hear EVERYTHING!!!
My fiancée and I had a wonderful time in the Driftless/coulee area for a weekend escape from town. The location of the town is great for quick stints to miscellaneous attractions in Viroqua (all the things), Reedstown, breweries in Soldiers Grove/Hillsboro, kayaking and hiking along the Kickapoo just to the north (KVR and Wildcat Mountain), and a lot of other surprising finds in the area. The best breakfast sandwich I've had right across the street (I've had a lot), and the best omelet I've had in Cashton. We went down for the 4th of July, and they had an awesome parade in town that was unexpectedly good. The owner, manager, and bartenders were fantastic all along the way. Yes, this is directly above the bar; the space used to be the projector room for the dinner-theater like space that is now occupied by the bar. Our bartenders were great and made our stay so much better. I would suggest that you check with the manager about soundproofing status beforehand.
We enjoyed our stay. It was well equipped and generally very clean/cared for. The only downside was the walls are pretty thin. It wasn't too loud when we went to bed, but If you are looking for somewhere super quiet..
Simple, inexpensive, clean.
