The renovated Ranch House is perfect as the gathering place for a romantic retreat, or home base while watching wildlife and exploring the Elkhorns. It is part of a 900 acre working cattle ranch that borders National Forest. We are about 25 minutes outside of Helena, Montana, so we are close to town, but secluded in the mountains. There is access to hiking and biking trails minutes away.

The house has 2 bedrooms with double beds and a fold out sofa bed. It has a fully functioning kitchen and a smaller bathroom. There is also a covered porch to take in the mountain views and a fire pit to enjoy the stars of the Big Sky during the evening. Often during the summer, a herd of elk grazes in the hay field right out the back door.

This 100 year old home has been updated and added to slowly throughout the years and has a lot of history to tell. It is great for people with a sense of adventure and don't mind the classics. Although the house is very clean, some wear and tear from being lived and worked in are inevitable. Come and enjoy real Montana ranch living in a mountain oasis.

The ranch house is also the perfect halfway point for travelers visiting Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks looking to keep an authentic Montana feel.

We loved the atmosphere of the property and how beautiful, scerene, and quiet the landscape was. Our kids got to enjoy seeing both farm and wild animals. The home was unique because of it's age and it was fun to stay in an original homestead. You can see the love and care that has been given to preserve this beautiful old home.

This was our first time renting a property…and they set a high bar for others to follow! It wasn’t high-end luxury at all…but it was exactly what we needed. Two of our four days we just sat outside and soaked in the quiet and scenery. We watched as the deer came up to the fenced in yard as our dog looked at them curiously. The 1917 ranch house has the characteristics that our grandparents and great-grandparents talked about: thick walls, quaintness, and very family orientated. With no WiFi and limited cell service, it was perfect for us to exit the pressures of today’s lifestyle and detox from our stress. The 4 R Ranch should stand for: Relaxing, Renewal, Refocus and Reconnection.

Beautiful home in the Elkhorn Mountains. Great retreat near lots of nature & hiking. Built in the early 1900’s it still has all of its original charm. Full kitchen so I recommend getting groceries in Helena on the way in. Host provides farm fresh eggs!!! There’s a piano for tinkering on and a big bathtub for a nice soak. Great place for dogs too. I love this place. Will definitely revisit when I’m in the area.

This ranch house is a beautiful old home full of quaint character! It is on beautifully maintained priperty that our kids loved exploring. We had everything we needed for our one night trip. Perfect for getting out of the bustle of town, yet close enough to drive in to Helena for activities. We definitely plan on returning for a longer stay in the future!

The property had an awful smell that made it impossible for us to stay there. I was physically sick within 10 minutes. The smell of pot was reported to the property owner who refused to receive the feedback or entertain a refund. The property is a dump, photos don’t accurately show that it’s next to bunch of poorly kept structures and a dump of a property. Hoses left around presented tripping hazards, chemicals or tools within access of kids were another concern. Several barn structures are on the right, conveniently NOT included in any of the photos, not safe if you are travelling with kids like we were. If there is power outage you will have no water because the property relies on an electric pump that services a water well. And there is no plan B on this property. There was a power outage the night we booked, and we dodged a bullet by not staying there, imagine kids dealing with no lights and no water for hours on end and at the end of a windy dirt road which makes the nearest gas station (where you can buy water) 20-30 minutes away. Don’t waste your money like we did.

We were yearning for fresh air and being in true nature and this place delivers! We didn’t realize it was up a mountain road wh in my cheap economy rental car was a little harry on a rainy and foggy afternoon, but once we arrived and saw the high meadows and mountain ranges we were so happy. The house is cozy and comfortable. The yard was fenced so our pup could roam. Patti and Tom, our hosts were wonderful, very communicative and accommodating. I wish we could have stayed longer. We hope to come back some day. Oh and I saw a western tanager-just hanging out with the swallows.

Our five days at the Ranch House were amazing! Such a beautiful and peaceful spot spot that provided us with many memories (especially spending time with Crystal the horse). Our dogs loved hiking the nearby trails and the closeness to town and other activities made this a special place for our vacation.

Fiest time using VRBO.Even though we are not your typical guests, we appreciate the space and quiet and relaxation in-between the craziness of sports practices and games. Not too far away from anything but far enough away from everything! Will be looking out for summer cancelations so we can snag this beauty again.

The ranch house is located approximately 5 miles off the main highway. We loved the location!!! It's been very dry in the area so our car was covered in dust and dirt every day. Washing you vehicle daily is a must, especially if you want to see out your back window. There were horses and cows everywhere. We were kinda bummed we had to leave before the cattle branding and vaccinations. It was a wonderful place for our trip from Florida to East Helena.

This cabin was adorable. It was a little more attached to the ranch than I expected, however the animals added to the charm. My dog and I enjoyed our relaxing stay.

We had a great weekend...it's very remote but close enough to town to enjoy other activities. Its an old farmhouse with lots of charm and gets cozy with the wood stove. We'll be back again.

We loved this place. It's as cozy as a mountain cabin should be. The extra treat was the piano! My husband played and played. Thank you for that! We'll stay there again when we visit Helena.
