The Neighborhood:

Stretching along ten miles of the Sonoma Coast, The Sea Ranch offers a rare blend of coastal wilderness and thoughtfully designed homes. Nearby highlights include Pebble Beach access trail (a short 5-minute walk), Black Point headland trails (8-minute walk), community heated pool and hot tub (South) (9-minute walk). Trails lead from your door to the bluffs, beaches, and through the forest. Heated pools, tennis courts, a fitness center, and The Sea Ranch Lodge round out the amenities. Gualala is a quick 10-minute drive south for groceries, dining, and fuel. For a scenic outing, Jenner and Bodega Bay are further down Highway 1.

Getting Around:

The drive from San Francisco is approximately 2.5 hours via Highway 101 to Highway 1. Fly into Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport (STS) in Santa Rosa, about 1.5 hours east, and rent a car. The Highway 1 drive along the coast is spectacular and worth building into your travel day.

Other Things to Note:

A beautiful spiral staircase leads to the office in the loft Netflix streaming is available.

The fireplace is not operational due to fire safety concerns. Warm up in the saunas at any of the three rec centers, use the free WiFi to look up a new trail, and spend time with your loved ones as you cozy up to watch Netflix on the smart TV in the living room while watching the sunset over the Pacific Ocean.

Exterior lighting is minimal by design to preserve the stunning dark sky -- bring a flashlight for evening walks and enjoy some of the best stargazing on the California coast.

Whale watching season runs from December through April -- grab the binoculars and watch for gray whale spouts from your window. Spring (April-June) brings a wildflower show across the coastal meadows -- lupine, poppies, and iris paint the landscape. Summer (June-September) brings the warmest days and longest light. Morning fog is common along the coast -- it usually burns off by midday.

Wonderful option if you value ocean views, watching whales, and quiet rest! Wish the kitchen was a bit updated more, dishwasher was on its last legs, cooking pots/pans a bit tired, things in kitchen not always the cleanest. But otherwise a wonderful place and I’d come back!

This is a very nice well- maintained house located in one of the best spots on the Sea Ranch coast. Very good layout and design with all the comforts needed for a great vacation. Beautiful ocean views. Great hearing the waves at night, and watching the moonlight on the water.

The home was lovely. The views and distance from the beaches can’t be beat. We had an issue with the hot tub and the staff talked us through for with patience and grace. We will be back

I have stayed in many rentals in Sea Ranch over the years and this house was by far the best but could still benefit from improvements (see below comments about the kitchen). The location is prime ocean front with ocean views from nearly every room in the house. The bluff trail can be accessed from the backyard. The layout was spacious with three cozy bedrooms on one side of the house, slightly elevated from the living room. It was nice to have adjustable central heating. We enjoyed sitting in the pair of rocking, rotating sofa chairs and admiring the waves crashing on the rocks. The hot tub was perfect size for my family of three. The spiral staircase to the den and window seat was another treat. We loved looking through the binoculars and telescopes. The kitchen had plenty of counter space though it was tiled which is hard to clean. The oven and stove top are very dated (circa 70's). Only two of the burners (far left) were working. The cooking utensils were also incomplete: no ladle or large cooking spoons. There was only one pullout wooden cooking board which was only appropriate for cutting bread. We had to buy some plastic cutting sheets. There was no bread knife, ice cream scoop, pasta bowls, or serving spoons (only 2 we could find). A drying dish rack would have been helpful instead of drying pots and pans on laid out dish towels. The fridge was roomy and dishwasher functional. Overall, we look forward to another stay.
