Oceanfront, great for families with children, BHI

Great location. Huge beach with easy access. Readily available to the Maritime Market. Would definitely rent again Points that need attention: 1) Master shower is antiquated. Shower head and hand held need upgrade. 2) Dimmer switch in Master Bath is defective. Light keeps flickering.

Great house, great location, perfect weather. House layout matched very well with our family of adults and young children. House could use some updates (eg kitchen and bathrooms, paint walls). But overall, very good. We hope hope to visit Rooms with a View again!

Reviewer Comments: when paying over $12,000 for a week's rental, a guest has options and can expect a high quality home. this is a great house - the location, layout, outdoor seating area, and carts are terrific. my husband and I came with two of our 20-something year old kids and had a relaxing week. that said, we've loved our stays here, but sadly after this year we won't return unless some things are addressed. the condition of the house is tired. upholstery is stained in the living room, outdoor chairs need repainting, beach towels are sad (we brought our own this year), the hammock pillows and blanket need to be replaced or thoroughly cleaned/repaired, and only 2 dime store beach chairs are provided (those are possibly not included in the rental agreement, but for the price we think they should be provided). the ice maker was broken the whole week (a repair person came by, looked at it, and said 'yep, it's broken'), and guest book entries indicate this has been the case for quite a while. the rental agency continued to bring bagged ice as needed. a couple cockroaches are unpleasant but understandable at the beach, but the last night of our stay there I awoke to a cockroach on my arm in the bed in the middle of the night. lastly, check in time was listed as 3:30. the rental agency reserved the 4 o'clock ferry for us, and due to reduced occupancy and delays we arrived on the island after 5. that's understood as part of travel, but the problem arose at the tram pickup when we were told the house was being cleaned and wasn't ready yet... two hours after check-in time. apparently the owners didn't leave until late. when we gained entry the dishwasher was still full because the cleaners weren't there long enough to complete the cycle. none of these things individually would be a dealbreaker for us, but as a whole and for the price, we'll look elsewhere and hope improvements are made so we can return to what could be a very nice place.

Reviewer Comments: The house is great, has a very efficient use of space and housed our family of 2 adults and 4 young children very well. My only complaint is that the house really needs someone to walk through carefully and give it some TLC. There was a nail sticking up on the interior stairs when we arrived, luckily I saw it before my kids stepped on it, and we hammered it back in. But later in the week on the boardwalk that leads to the beach my son DID cut his foot, pretty badly, on one of the MANY loose nails. We had to run the market to get a bunch of first aid supplies and his sand time was limited the rest of the trip which was sad. We also arrived to find one of the golf carts with a flat tire and it took then until the next afternoon to come fix it. This was very inconvenient. Also the rental company, who encourages you to pack light, should inform you that the market closes at 6pm. So if like us you have a 4:30 check in and the ferry is running late, you need to stop by the market on your way to your house or else you have to wait until 8am the next morning to get groceries. Would just have been nice to get a heads up about that.

Bald head island has a lot to do for both couples and families but there are several issues with the amenities. 1)Even with a temporary membership the reservation system for lunch and dinner is cumbersome. For my entire 4 day stay I was not able to get a reservation for dinner and lunch was difficult as well. The phone number to call and reserve was always busy or you where left on hold for over 15 mins. If you pay for the membership you should be able to dine at the club. Maybe not every day but at least 50% of the time. 2) The ability to grab a trolley to take you to the ferry is very difficult. Their projected ETA was delayed but over 10 mins. My family was unable to get the trolley to grab us on time so we decided to grab a gulf cart and a great employee took our luggage to the ferry. This system needs to be improved especially during busy weekends. 3) The Home and location where exceptional but the home does need a deep cleaning and repairs to the exterior and the seating areas outside.

Normally this would have been a perfect house and location. Unfortunately the Army Corps of Engineers were working all weekend 24/7 with heavy equipment on the beach doing beach restoration. I’m sure this was an isolated event but sure detracted from our experience and was hard to predict in advance. Beach restitution is important but important to consider and disclose to prospective renters! Otherwise a great getaway and awesome house for families.

First time to Bald Head Island for everyone in our group. The whole process was smooth and easy. The house has a particularly nice, wide southerly view from its deck.

Does need a little work. Ice maker didn’t not work. No oven mitts or hot pads. No cookie or baking sheets. One of the golf carts had very poor head lights which made it hard to see at night. We would definitely come back but I recommend the owners stay on mgt company to replace or repair items mentioned. I would also replace or wash Slipcovers on sectional more often. We love BHI..we used to own a house in Killegray Ridge so it was nice to be back.
