Summary:

This Sea Ranch home frames the Pacific like a painting -- and the view changes by the hour. Soak in the hot tub as the sun dips below the Pacific. Curl up by the fireplace as fog rolls in off the Pacific. Room for 6 in this 2-bedroom home. Sea Ranch community pools, tennis courts, and the Lodge are nearby. Your front door opens to Sea Ranch's 50 miles of trails and the wild Sonoma Coast. Nothing resets your pace like watching the tide come and go from your own living room.

The Space:

Leave behind your worries with a long-overdue getaway to California's striking Sonoma Coast. This Sea Ranch home provides the perfect way to appreciate the pristine natural beauty of the area, with ocean views from every room, access to one of Sea Ranch’s favorite beaches for nature lovers, a private hot tub, and shared amenities like pools, saunas, and tennis.

Tucked away in the unique community of The Sea Ranch, this classic ocean bluff home has ocean views from every room. Nearby rec centers provide structured activities, including swimming in the shared pools, yoga classes, and fun games of tennis and pickleball. With a private hot tub waiting for you, however, it's tempting to just sit back and breathe in the fresh ocean air or take in the awe-inspiring view of the stars (minimal light pollution at Sea Ranch).

Like many Sea Ranch homes, the Blue Heron was designed to integrate the indoor and outdoor environment using rustic wood, stone, multiple decks, window seats, and lots of light. While retaining these classic Sea Ranch features, the Blue Heron is newer than most homes at Sea Ranch, built in 2002 by notable architect Ted Smith. Over the past year, the owners have installed new carpet, refinished kitchen cabinets, and new windows and skylights. In 2023, brand new kitchen appliances were installed.

The Blue Heron has an Electric Vehicle (EV) charger available for guests and the house is powered using solar energy, reflecting the owner's commitment to clean energy.

The house includes modern amenities such as a new kitchen, passive solar (the house is always a comfortable temperature), spacious rooms with modern furnishings, and high-speed wireless internet standing side-by-side with rich wooden columns and ceiling beams, slate stone floors, and wide windows to the forest and beach views outside. Watercolors throughout the house were done by an award-winning Maine artist.

All the basic appliances and high-quality clad cookware are present and accounted for, along with several options for coffeemaking -espresso, chemex, an automatic coffee maker, and a conical burr coffee grinder (bring fresh whole beans) for coffee lovers - and a Chatsford teapot for tea lovers. There is a full set of spices to liven up your cooking. Gaze at the bushy, gnarled branches dancing in the wind as you prepare a delicious meal, which you can savor with your loved ones at the adjacent indoor table for six - or at the outside table with views and the feel of the ocean breeze. Afterwards, treat yourself to a cup of hot cocoa as you settle in for the evening by the fireplace. Enjoy movie night, using the state-of-the-art entertainment options.

Six guests can stay in this two- bedroom home, making it a good choice for families, intergenerational gatherings, and small groups of friends.

The primary bedroom offers a king-size bed for adults, a large walk-in closet, and an en suite bathroom. The slate-lined shower is built for two with double showerheads. Attached to the primary bedroom is a spacious study with bookcases, a large desk, a single bed, TV, and comfortable chairs. It’s the perfect place for quiet since it is separate from the main living space. Go ahead and catch up on work emails, or read a book, or do a little yoga (the house has yoga mats available) all while looking out over the Pacific Ocean.

From both the primary bedroom and the study there are multiple ways to appreciate the beauty of the area - up close thanks to quick deck access, or from afar through windows with direct ocean views over a protected meadow. In this room, you can pull out a classic children’s book from the bookcase and read to your child or grandchild in an overstuffed chair while you watch the sun paint the horizon pink and orange as it dips beneath the waves.

The second bedroom, located on the other wing of the house, has a queen bed, an en suite bathroom, access to its own porch with a small table and chairs, and a view that rivals the primary bedroom, looking straight out to the ocean. Curl up on the window seat and watch the birds and the surf.

In the living room, there is a queen-sized pull-out couch with extra bedding available. The sleeper sofa includes an inflatable interior so it is dreamily comfortable. The house’s two full bathrooms, along with a shared half-bathroom, make getting ready in the morning a breeze.

The house is single story accessed by two stairs up to an outside porch and another single step up into the house. Inside the Blue Heron there are no elevated thresholds so access from room to room is unrestricted. There is a bathtub in one bedroom and a walk-in shower in the primary bath with a five-inch threshold to enter the shower. The Blue Heron owners have written up an extensive list of suggested activities with pictures and directions for guests. Just as important as the beach is the nearby Bluff Trail, which leads you through the landscape of Sea Ranch architecture as well as the waves below.

The nearby area offers wine tasting at the Annapolis Winery, a mere 12-mile drive away, as well as a handful of shops and galleries in neighboring Gualala. On spring, summer, and fall Saturdays the Farmers Market in Gualala is not to be missed with fruits, vegetables, flowers and fresh baked goods.

SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS

Choose from 2 bedrooms, with queen beds.

There is also a library adjoining the master bedroom with a single bed, and a queen size pullout bed in the living room.

Altogether, the home comfortably sleeps 6.

Getting Around:

In Sea Ranch, visit Twofish Baking Company for morning pastries and lattes or make a day trip of visiting the village of Mendocino to the north. Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport (STS) in Santa Rosa is the nearest airport, about 1.5 hours east. A car is essential for exploring the area.

Other Things to Note:

There is an active security camera on the roof. It only views the driveway.

Sea Ranch has three recreation centers with heated pools, saunas, and tennis courts. Access passes are provided with your stay -- check availability upon arrival as these shared amenities can be popular during peak times.

Exterior lighting is minimal by design to preserve the stunning dark sky -- bring a flashlight for evening walks and enjoy some of the best stargazing on the California coast.

December through April is whale season. You may spot gray whales breaching right from the bluff trail nearby. Wildflower season (April-June) transforms the coastal bluffs into a tapestry of color -- worth an extra walk on the trails. Summer offers long days and warm afternoons, though the iconic Sonoma Coast fog often rolls in at sunrise and clears by noon.

Cell service can be spotty along the coast. The home has WiFi for staying connected.

This lovely home is perfect for one or two couples. The open living and kitchen areas provide amazing natural lighting with gorgeous views of the ocean and sunsets. The home is conveniently close to both golf and Gualala. This was our second time staying here and won't be our last.

We just spent a few nights at Blue Heron, and we were delighted at how well the kitchen was stocked to support cooking some great meals. We really loved the location and the two porches which gave us perfect morning coffee sipping sun or late afternoon sundowner cocktail warmth. We highly recommend the property which also includes Level 2 EV charging which is a huge advantage for anyone making the long drive to Sea Ranch in an EV.

The Blue Heron is a true Sea Ranch gem. It is in superb condition, and we enjoyed our stay immensely. The home includes literally everything you need for a comfortable and gourmet-style sojourn. We have stayed here numerous times and were particularly impressed this stay with the cleanness of all of the windows--which is a chore anytime of year! The location is great: close to Gualala but still quite secluded. Finally, the neighbors are wonderful! In short, we most highly recommend the Bue Heron. Roger and Pat

This house ticked so many boxes: clean, well-located with great lines of sight, easy access to amenities that resonated with us, great service from Vacasa on a minor issue upon arrival, well-equipped kitchen for someone who likes to cook, etc. I look forward to many happy returns to Blue Heron.
