Estes Park, Colorado
Welcome to the Whispering Pines !
Whispering Pines Cabin has everything you need to enjoy a family vacation! We have many outdoor games, streaming services, a hot tub, lots of land for the kids to explore and an office space for you to work remotely. There is hiking year round, and in winter, snowshoeing, sledding, cross country skiing and ice-skating.
The Space
Come relax and enjoy our historic 1928 Estes Park home at the foot of Prospect Mountain, a charming rental retreat only 3 miles from Rocky Mountain National Park (and right across the road from the Big Thompson River), which was built with integrity and beautiful craftsmanship that has been maintained throughout the years. While the cabin offers all the amenities of a modern comfortable home, there has been a concerted effort in its restoration to retain the look and feel of this wonderful property. The Whispering Pines Cabin is the perfect place to come and escape the summer heat as well as enjoy the serenity of the mountains year round.
This property has it all--lots of character, a large wooded lot providing privacy , across the road from the river with no buildings in-between to spoil the view or muffle the sound, walking distance to downtown, a huge stone wood-burning fireplace, mountain views, high-speed wireless internet and room inside and out to spread out and relax.
Much effort has been taken to care for and furnish our mountain cabin. We want our guests to feel welcome and comfortable and to enjoy it as much as we do. We are proud to provide a clean and smoke-free environment (smoking is allowed outside). This had been a family home for 80 years and has only been made available for rentals in the past 16 years.
Enjoy the all-season sunroom-- the perfect place to play cards, read, enjoy a cup of your favorite beverage, visit with friends or family, or just relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of the Big Thompson River. There are plenty of windows to take in the beauty and tranquility of the mountains, including the deer, elk and wild turkey that often wander through (and even the occasional black bear).
Experience the true feeling of Colorado in your home away from home. We provide a collection of DVD's, games, and books, including mountain interest and local information. We also have extras to make your vacation comfortable and safe-- PAK n Play, fire pit, first aid kit, flash light, fire extinguishers, smoke /carbon monoxide detectors, cooler, snowshoes upon request, etc.
Guest Access
Guests will have access to the entire property other than the garage. This includes the hot tub, picnic table, horseshoes and entire outdoor area (you can even climb the mountain directly behind the cabin!). We have tried to anticipate anything you might need during your stay: toiletries, paper goods, soaps and detergents, snow shoes, books , backpacks, high chair, pack and play, stroller, sleds, etc.
Guest interaction
We do not live in Estes Park, but about 1.5 hours away in the Denver area. We are readily available by phone, text and email and will do our best to offer local recommendations since we visit the area often. If there are ever any emergencies or urgent needs, we have a property manager who lives very close by in the town of Estes Park. Access to the cabin is via a lockbox. Check in is anytime after 4pm. Check out is anytime before 10am. All of the access instructions, maps, codes, etc. will be sent to you about two weeks before your stay.
Other things to note:
Two of the bedrooms are connected, meaning you walk though one to get to the other.
Estes Valley Operating Permit #3175- a licensed vacation rental property.
Neighborhood Overview
We are a short half mile walk or drive to town. Stroll along the Big Thompson river in town, visit one of the many delicious candy shops or restaurants, watch artists work or buy mementos of your trip. The entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park is just a 5 minute drive away, with many, many trails to hike, snowshoe or even for backcountry skiing and sledding. The Eldora downhill ski area is an hour drive away if you want to try out some Colorado skiing.
Getting around
The downtown area of Estes Park is only a 1/2 mile walk away. There are no sidewalks but we walk along the grassy shoulder; it's a 30 mph road. Estes Park has a shuttle service operating in the summer months to help you get from town to the park and back. A personal vehicle is recommended due to the nature of being in a mountain town.

We know the mountains in that area very well, but coming upon this gem of a home was such an added bonus. Also kicking off the holiday season, and Estes Park was phenomenal. We hiked, we used the hot tub under the stars, and had a lot of good food and laughter at the house. I would recommend it and I’m looking forward to staying there again. Carolina was right on with any request or questions that we had. And the grounds people came one time to help us with making sure the hot tub was where it should be in its pH, which it was. No lapses in communications whatsoever. Thank you to the entire staff that keeps that house so beautiful!
We had a wonderful family vacation and can't wait to come back.
The house was roomy and cozy. Beds were comfortable. It had everything we needed and more! The hot tub was perfect after a long day of walking. The gas firepit was a hit with everyone as well. We loved the views from the 4 season room. Two days we had several elk and mule deer in the front yard. My son loved hiking up the hill in the back. We all look forward to staying here in the future.
We had a wonderful stay for our first go at RMNP. It is a rustic cabin vibe in Estes Park near downtown area with easy access to RMNP (within 10 min). Cabin is just as shown. We had zero problems while we were there. The house had everything you could possibly need and we were there almost a week. I asked property owner/manager one question and they responded immediately. We loved the sunroom and being able to hear the Big Thompson River thru the windows. We saw deer on the property essentially every day. Considerations though…although you are just across the street from and can see (slightly) the Big T you don’t have any access to it from the property nor along the road the property was on. That was kind of a bummer. Also, the property is on a fairly busy road which washes out the sound of the river most of the day except in early morning and evenings. Lastly, the property is pretty large but much of it is not functional as it is a rock climb in the back and slopes at a fairly high grade to the road.
Second time staying here. Fantastic all around.
Amazing place! Property manager was outstanding and made last minute arrangements to adjust our dates due to a family emergency we had the day before arrival. Location is just a minute from the Main Street through Estes Park and has multiple access points to avoid all the tourist traffic. Location also is just minutes from RMNP. Cabin was very clean and had all the amenities you need for a short or long stay. Definitely recommend!
This a charmingly furnished cabin in historic Estes Park, close to Main Street restaurants but far enough away to enjoy peace and tranquility while listening to the river and watching the wildlife from the four season porch. Beautifully appointed with all you need for your stay. It is a perfect home base for a visit to Rocky Mountain National Park. We were there over the 4th of July holiday and it couldn’t have been nicer.
Beautifully kept, very close to original. Beautifully maintained. Love this place. Have been here several times. Home hosts are very accomodating.
Very beautiful home with everything you need right there for you. Amazingly comfortable and peaceful environment. Hot tub and fireplace were a plus although make sure you bring wood. Welcoming letter states enough wood for two large fires provided but we found only two logs and some scrap wood beside the fireplace. Overall, a beautiful home that you will thoroughly will enjoy with downtown and RMNP very close by. Thank you to the homeowners for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home.
Great place. Wonderful experience. Would stay there again.
Great place and perfect location
Great house Perfect for our family
Perfect home for four adults and one child. Very nicely maintained and clean in a pretty forest setting with the sound of the river from across the road. Lots of kitchen stuff for cooking including gas grill. Two minutes to town or the entrance to the park.
As always, the cabin looks great and everything was exactly as promised. Love this place!
We loved everything about this property. It had everything we needed and was so cozy and comfortable. Enjoyed the screened porch room, the hot tub, and listening to the river at night. Great location too and we had deer in our yard almost every day. Highly recommend!
We so enjoyed our stay. The close proximity to Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park was great! We were at the National Park entrance in 5 minutes. The cabin was clean and comfortable, and we enjoyed some days of just relaxing there. We saw a good deal of wildlife, several elk, deer, chipmunks, and even one bear!
My kids and I had a great time. The house was very quaint and in a great location. Loved the hot tub and the porch. Saw a ton of elk and one night even a bear came walking by the property. Definitely would recommend.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Whispering Pines. It was very accommodating and had everything we needed. We could have packed less. Close proximity to the town. The hot tub was a bonus and watching the deer that were watching us was a thrill. We saw an entire herd of elk in town on the first day. We would definitely stay there again.
