North Shore Headlands House - retreat house on Lake Superior

Home very clean and kitchen well stocked. Host very easy to contact and work with. Was a great home base for our North Shore hiking trip.

For the past several years, my hiking group of seven has used Headland House as a base for hiking on the Superior Hiking Trail. We always do an early May hike to catch the spring flowers, roaring rivers and bird migration. This year we rediscovered the wonderful trail section through Tettegouche which includes spectacular views of Bean and Bear lakes and continued on south along the Beaver River towards Split Rock. What I especially appreciate about the Headland House is that we can come back in the afternoon and prepare a meal in their well-stocked kitchen while enjoying spectacular views of the lake. Later relax, play cards or watch the Minnesota Wild in the playoffs. There’s plenty of room and we have everything we need. The well-curated artwork on the walls is a bonus. Our host Jim Hagen is always most friendly and accommodating. We’re already planning our return trip for next Spring.

Beautiful location. Really enjoyed the lakeviews from almost every room in the house. Rooms were very clean and kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed for our large group. Great location for visiting the North Shore state parks and waterfalls

I think this was our 6th visit to this property. We keep coming back even though we usually don't need all the space because no other property can compare to the amazing views and feeling of total peace that washes over you at this place. Words and even pictures can't describe how amazing it is. We spend most of our vacation right at the house because it is so wonderful to just be there. Our now annual visits are a highlight of the year.

One of the best VRBO experiences we have ever had. We have stayed in number of VRBOs, the best ones are run professionally, much like a business. The owner of this home was the best with which we have worked. Before accepting our request he got in contact with us to make sure the home would meet our needs. The home itself is beautiful and the perfect location for a North Shore visit. If you are considering a North Shore visit, and we think you should, be aware you are visiting a very rural area, where looking out at Lake Superior and hiking to one of several waterfalls is about all there is to do. So if you are looking for a relaxing getaway the North Shore delivers, and we would highly recommend North Shore Headlands House. When we return to the North Shore we will definitely stay here again. A couple of warnings about the North Shore, it is very rural so there is a lack of restaurants and grocery store hours can be an issue (especially if you get in Sunday afternoon). We are from Northern MN, but the relatively cool July weather caused by Lake Supeior caught me by surprise, should've packed less shorts, more jeans and long sleeve shirts! Everything about our stay was great! House was clean and haf the best stocked kitchen I have had in a rental! The views were amazing!

This property was hands down the best we've stayed at! The views were incredible and the house had everything you could possibly need. Our friends had never been to MN and this was the perfect house to show them all that the North Shore has to offer! Can't wait to come back and rent it again!

This is such a beautiful and thoughtfully laid out home. It has a breathtaking view of Lake Superior from nearly every room. The kitchen is extremely well stocked (we love to cook there). This is our third (or maybe fourth) stay and we will continue to return. Strongly recommended.

My kids and their partners and I stayed over a long weekend in March to celebrate a birthday with a beautiful ski at Bearskin Lodge—the last great ski of the season. Good fortune, good times. A very happy birthday.

This home is on prime real estate, with Lake Superior right on the property. My friends and I enjoyed 3 nights at the beautiful house. Everything is so organized and everything you need is available. We hope to make it back many times in the years ahead.
