The Space:

Pets are not allowed at this property. Please ask about our pet-friendly properties if you want to travel with a pet.

The May Family Home is part of Wauhatchie Woodlands, a collection of quaint, tiny-home, rustic-comfort log cabins on a 14-acre wooded property surrounded by National Park land. The property is owned and operated by Timberroot, a small, family-owned business that specializes in creating rustic spaces that allow you to relax, recharge, and reconnect with nature.

Once the personal home of Frank, Nicole, and their children, the May Family Home is the largest and most well-equipped accommodation offered at Wauhatchie Woodlands.

This vacation dream home is flanked by National Park land and dense forest, with quick access to downtown Chattanooga, Ruby Falls, Lookout Mountain, and the surrounding area.

The kitchen is open to dining, a dining bar, a living room with a wood burning fireplace, and directly adjacent to the massive stunning sunroom with vaulted ceilings. You will love the real wood craftsmanship, contrast in stains and colors, and a combination of rustic and contemporary style.

The sunroom exits to a spacious back deck with a swinging bed, outdoor dining, and direct access to the private 14′ swim spa.

On the same living level, there is a beautiful bathroom shared by a queen bedroom and the kid’s room with a lofted queen bed and built-in slide. The slide room sleeps two small people up top and has a single bed below.

Across the hall is a beautiful queen bedroom larger than many master bedrooms and a stunning newly renovated bathroom. This large queen room has a TV, a small work desk, and seating for TV watching out of bed.

Down the hall are the two massive loft rooms. The river-facing loft room has a private deck, picture windows, separate shower & toilet rooms, a closet, and a spacious TV den. Up in the loft are two full/twin bunks that can sleep up to six.

The back loft room features two lofted full beds over a king. Also on this level are a sofa, separate shower & toilet rooms, and closet. Upstairs is the workspace with two desks and a daybed with Smart TV.

Downstairs is the massive main suite with a luxurious king bed, modern armoires, a wood-burning stove, and the media area with a large sectional sofa and a 65″ curved TV. The main suite also has a large bathroom with two vanities, a walk-in shower, a deep bathing tub, and a small cedar sauna.

Also on the lower living level is the fully loaded game room with a full-size pool table, ping pon top, foosball, air hockey, Smart TV, and a comfy sofa. The space also included a small fridge and freezer to keep your drinks cold while you play. Just off the game room is the laundry room with your private washer/dryer.

The May Family Home is in a compound with two other homes, the Blue House and Skyuka Chalet. The homes share a stunning, heated resort-style pool with an expansive flagstone patio. On the patio, you'll find lounge seating, an outdoor fireplace, and an outdoor kitchen with a covered dining pavilion (guests must provide their own propane and firewood).

Please note that the pool is closed during winter, typically from October to March.

Chattanooga is a city known for its railroads. There are active train tracks that border the property to the north and I-24 is about half a mile away. Please note that light sleepers may be affected by the ambient city and train noise.

The ground floor of the Chalet serves as the poolhouse for all three properties. Guests have access to the workout room, poolside showers, and toilets.

The May Family Home is more than just a house; it's a true forested resort just a tiny hop from downtown Chattanooga.

Pack' n Play Travel cribs are available upon request.

Amazing space for us! Five friends from high school (now in our 50s) and plenty of room for us to spread out but still be together. The kitchen had everything we needed and the host was super responsive. This is also a great place if you have kids. The train can be loud from the pool but we didn’t hear it in the house. Absolutely recommend!

Great Location and plenty of space for the 14 of us. Everyone enjoyed all areas of the home from the game room, hot tub, pool and large den off of kitchen!

The house was big. Multiple levels the game room was really fun. The rooms were very spacious! There were sugar ants initially but gone after we cleaned them out. The drive way to get t lol the house was intense but there was another part where we were able to turn around. Over all it was a really cool vacation home out of the way and perfectly secluded.

The house itself was great and the property managers were very responsive. The only negative was the slight deception of the listing related to the pool. From the photos it looks like the pool is private and only used by the May house.... in reality its shared with 2 other rental properties on site. And while it does list this in small print in the information section, its not evident from an initial browse on vrbo and was a surprise to us.

This is a marvelous home. There are rooms and rooms and rooms to spread out with 10 to 16 people - as long as some are children. Although there were only seven of us, we rented the house with the intention of having eleven. For the seven of us there was plenty of room, but had all eleven showed up we would not have been crowded. The amenities included a large kitchen for even the most particular cooks. It was not a chef's kitchen but it was very nice. The living and relaxing areas were great. We could play pool, foosball, or air hockey. take a swim in the community pool, or soak ourselves in the OVER sized hot tub. Dining together was a breeze at the large table suitable for 10-12. The downside to this house is the location. Although it is far enough from the highway it is not an easy find. The property company could have done better with directions. Not to be defeated we found the house on the second attempt. Another thing the property company could have added was what to bring to the house and what was included. We had no problems once we knew how to shop for our stay.I would recommend this house to anyone who likes an out-of-the-way location. It is suitable for families with kids or a group of adults wanting to share a weekend together.I would be remiss not to mention there is a railroad adjacent to the house. Sometimes the horns would sound off, sometimes not. The trains were easy to hear while outside but if there is a conversation inside you may not notice.

Overall the property was nice. The rooms were great and the size was good. However, the cleaniness could have been a little better and the house could use some updating and a little TLC

It isn't really suitable for older people due to so many stairs and the need of steps in some places. The entry into the sun room would truly benefit from one step added. The main outside stairs are not regulation spacing and did cause a fall. In some of the bedrooms the beds were high enough a step up would be beneficial. For less senior people it is very nice

Check in was a breeze. Plenty of space in this place!! Needs some electrical updating but it truly has everything you need. We loved the pool. Day one it was packed with other families renting smaller units but then we had it to our crew of 12 the rest of the week! Trains are loud but kinda cool. We had an autistic child with us so heads up as he was not a fan of the loud horns 3-5 times a day. Everyone had enough space to have privacy while also able to all watch movie or eat together. Things to do are CLOSE! We did Rick City, Lookout baseball game and aquarium visit all great! Thanks so much for a smooth and easy trip for our group!

Family trip with all the kids and grands - 12 total. House full but still plenty of space and beds left. Sun porch was great for the early morning risers while allowing others to sleep in. Loved the location, so close to everything! The train was not a problem at all and hardly heard it. Pool and hot tub were great! Would definitely recommend and would definitely stay here again!
