Stayed Mar 8, 2025This property was stunning. This was our first time to Costa Rica, and we can’t wait to return! Our family of 7 (5 kids, ranging from 2 yrs old to 13 yrs old) loved the true Costa Rican experience. The home is situated on a beautiful mountain with views of the ocean. There was abundant wildlife (monkeys, toucans, birds, iguanas, tree frogs, geckos, etc.). The kids especially loved the pool! The concierge, Cristian, was incredibly helpful. He even met my husband spur of the moment one evening at a pharmacy to help translate for him. He checked on us to see if we needed anything each day, and he helped us book amazing tours. The owner was very kind, reached out several times, and wanted to ensure we had an amazing time. The drive up to the house is not for the faint of heart, though! It is very steep. We were aware of this before arriving, but nothing can quite prepare you for the steepness and twists and turns it takes to get up to the house. It just added to our overall adventure though! We did have to keep a very close eye on our toddler because the pool is just right off the open living area. It was not a problem, as all the doors need to remain closed at all times and she could not reach the door knobs. It is something to consider though when booking if you have members who cannot swim yet. We LOVED this place and cannot wait to return!

Stayed Jan 1, 2025This VRBO is outstanding. Laura keeps everything so clean, and even does your laundry if needed. Cristian was good at helping get us settled in and helped with dinner arrangements our first night when we were all so tired - much appreciated. Would highly recommend staying here. Just follow the advice and get. 4 wheel drice vehicle if you have your own car!

Stayed Feb 14, 2024I traveled with my brother, his wife, and their 2 adult sons, one of whom has Down Syndrome. We had a great time on the beaches, walking through jungle-y areas, zip lining, and eating out every night. But the star of the trip was this house. The layout was perfect for us with air conditioned bedrooms with their own baths and balconies and very comfy beds. The kitchen is well stocked and had good ground coffee in the cupboard. There’s a nice grocery store in town. The housekeeper Laura kept this house immaculate and washed our clothes 3x a week. She motivated us to learn Spanish. As everyone mentions, the drive up to this house is steep and rocky and requires 4wheel drive. We got lost but the concierge Michael met us at the Riverside resort and led us up the drive. The drive from the airport was painful and took forever so we were tired and hungry when we got to the house. Michael took one look at my unhappy nephew and had pizza delivered! Up that crazy drive! The next day he arranged for a tour guide through MA Park. My nephew hurt his ankle first day and Michael told us where to go to get it Xrayed on a Sunday. They got him in right away and he received terrific care…just a sprain. Restaurants in town are good. We liked Falafel Bar, Agua Azul, Cafe Milagro, Emilio’s. For lunch Buena Vista and Rico Tico. Skip El Avion…It‘s the Spaghetti Factor of CR. Do go to Mirador for an extra special dinner.

Stayed Mar 23, 2023The house was the most beautiful view and amazing sunsets. We enjoyed watching monkeys and birds right from the balcony. Loved the separation the house provided with the rooms away from each other.

Stayed Feb 22, 2023This place is really amazing. The location is great - amazing views. Incredibly clean and neat. Can't say enough good things about the concierge, Michael, who was available at a moment's notice for everything from booking activities, getting groceries ordered and delivered, restaurant suggestions, and even helping us book a private chef to come cook for use (Gabriel was amazing and I highly recommend him and his food). We had several animals come visit us during our 3-day stay including some white-faced monkeys, some toucans, macaws, and lots of iguanas, geckos and lizards. Kitchen is well-equipped and even has a 5 gallon bottled water dispensing machine with both cold and hot water. One thing worth pointing out that is not obvious from the listing is that only the three bedrooms and the kitchen / living room area are air-conditioned. The dining area / sitting area near the pool is open-air. This was not a problem, but was just interesting and the fan in that outdoor area doesn't work great, so in hotter weather it might be uncomfortable. You'll probably read reviews talking about the steep climb up and it's no joke - the first time you climb up to the house you might be a little unnerved, but Michael will guide you up and once you do it once, you will have no problem doing it again and again. The path is well-designed to ensure safety so you don't have to worry about falling off the path or anything like that. It's just steep and bumpy at times and definitely requires a 4x4. Tour busses that might come pick you up for an activity cannot make their way all the way up so you'll have to meet them at the main reception area down by some of the other properties that are in this community. We had a great time, thank you to Michael for all his help, Laura for doing an amazing job with keeping the place nice and clean (and even doing laundry for us!), and Gabriel for the amazing meal he cooked for us. We would certainly book here again.

Stayed Sep 15, 2021This house is amazing, with panoramic views perched at the top of a v. steep private driveway. We spent 6 nights here and it was great location for Manual Antonio - its sits halfway way between MA National Park and Quepos. You will need a 4 x 4 to get up the driveway, as it is very steep but it's worth it! House is very well appointed with high end fittings and furniture with high speed internet. There were a couple of small issues that needed maintaining when we there (shower head, TV), but overall our conciere was v. responsive and only too willing to helo.

Stayed Jun 26, 2021I can’t say enough wonderful things about our stay at Shangri-la. The house was the perfect size for my family of four (we had an extra room). It was just as clean as it was beautiful. The view is second to none. As if that wasn’t enough, our stay was taken to another level by Michael the concierge. He took care of EVERYTHING for us. Booked all our excursions, grocery shopped and made amazing dinner reservations. Also, having Juan cook meals at the house was perfection. Thanks to everyone involved for an absolutely amazing family vacation!!!
