From our cleaning and sanitation crew:
" We at IBKLEAN want to help our guests feel even more comfortable this summer. Time at the lake is for relaxing, not worrying.
We have been cleaning here for many years. This year we are doing things different. The most important things are:
1) All staff will complete the Health Department required CDC paperwork before every clean. No one will work if they are not well.
2) Our staff will wear clean/new gloves, masks, and foot covers for every cleaning job.
We will use new/ clean ( in hottest water possible) cleaning tools for every cleaning job.
3) We will use the recommended 2 step cleaning, then disinfecting process, allowing enough time for the disinfectant to work.
4) All laundry will be washed in the hottest water possible. Baskets will be disinfected regularly.
5) We will maintain a check list of this process
We hope our commitment to everyone’s health and safety helps you feel at home. Thank you and have a wonderful time. "
NO SMOKING ANYWHERE ON THIS PROPERTY. If any evidence of smoking on the property is found, it will result in a fee of $250.00.
Pets are welcome at Guthrie Pines with some restrictions. Each pet will require a $100 pet fee. For the sake of owners and other renters with pet allergies, we request that pets stay outside of the main house, and off the furnishings. (We have a large 10 by 15' Mudroom on The South side entrance from the lake side of the house) where pets are welcome. (If you try to leave the door open from the Mudroom to the House, you invite mice into your living space--please do not prop that door open!) Pets are welcome to stay on the porch, but please do not allow them on the furnishings. (SEE PET ADDENDUM) There is 8.5 acres to run on, and explore, and we advise that pets come inside the mudroom for the night. (A skunk would not be a welcome addition to your party, nor would porcupine quills be.) Should you have any questions about this policy, please contact Linda at the contact information given on this site.
Guthrie Pines is just minutes off I-75 at the Waters exit. The property is in close proximity to a Golfer's paradise in Gaylord. Guthrie Pines is located in the "Golf Mecca of the Midwest". Golf Digest rated it as one of the top 5 golf destinations in America. Near to several fine golf courses. Boyne Mountain is 75 minutes away, it boasts of indoor water park and also has a world class spa. For more family fun, Mackinac Island is only 1 ½ hour away. You can pick from 3 casinos as close as 40 miles away. Traverse City (which boasts the Cherry Festival in the summer, and a Zoo) and Petoskey are also within a couple of hours drive. Gaylord boasts of the Alpenfest in Mid-July, an Elk viewing area, a micro-brewry, Olympic training site, and the Call of the Wild Museum. Some of Grayling’s area attractions feature canoe races on the AuSable River, Hartwick Pines State Park, The Fred Bear Museum, and local fish hatcheries.
Grayling also boasts of Camp Grayling National Guard training facility. You may hear planes and/or choppers flying training missions near the lake, as the 'Range' is about a mile away. Sometimes artillery practice is heard, and sometimes we are treated to night sky flares. We are thankful for the training our National Guard receives near here to defend our country. There may be noise from some of the activity, but this training center offers no threat of danger to the lake property's residents. The fish don't mind either, they have heard it all their lives!
North Central State Trail - Bike from Gaylord to Mackinaw City. See the North Central State Trail website for for information.
There is a notebook available at the rental with plenty of information of area attractions and things to do, as well as important information for the renter, such as the wi-fi passwords, and more. We also have many brochures from the Michigan welcome center to give you lots of ideas for places to go and things to do. These are in the drawer of the table stand under the TV in the living room.

We picked up our son at MSU and had a relaxing family weekend getaway. The place was exactly as described. We had a fun time canoeing and paddle boarding. Bathroom and kitchen were both well stocked. We enjoyed the tranquility of the property and the lake We went up to Gaylord to take in the foliage at Aspen park and while up there did dinner at the Alpine Tavern. Fall foliage was great the weekend we were there.
It’s our second time staying there and we really really enjoyed each and every time. Booking in August in 2024 again.
Very nice location. Would be delightful earlier in the year as the weather didn't allow for much outside. Enjoyed the house. Nice, quiet & peaceful.
Beautiful property. Stayed inside most of the time due to cool weather. But had a blast. Only trouble was getting in and out with the boat/trailer. Otherwise would definitely return again.
Linda was great to work with. Sent us all the information we needed. The house was clean and comfortable. Definitely want to stay there again.
My family loved our stay at Guthrie Pines. Its easy to fall in love with the beautiful property and serene lake. We spotted and listened to a family of loons, a highlight for sure! We really enjoyed the amenties, which made our stay comfortable and restful. We look forward to coming back next year!
Great stay Love the quiet. Lake is perfect for swimming and campfire. House has all you need.
Great semi-rustic cottage on a fantastic secluded property. We loved the privacy, the sandy bottom swimming area for the kids, the fire pit, the crystal clear lake, the views, the great fishing, loons, eagles and the cool military planes we had the pleasure of observing here and there. My wife, 2 small boys (6 & 2), in-laws (for a couple of days), our dog and I had plenty of space and everything we needed for the 6 of us. We enjoyed swimming & boating each day and fires each night. We brought our 18 foot boat and launched it at the public launch and left it at the dock all week. Super easy and convenient. Everything went smoothly and was 100% hassel free. We brought our people, our pet and our boat and did nothing but relax for an entire week. We highly recommend Guthrie Pines! Thank you! -Josh, Melita, Fisher & Knox
We had a great stay with family and friends. The cabin is a little dark, but very cozy. There could be more room for storage as it’s evident that people are living in the property when guests are not staying there. The military exercises during the week all happened during the middle of the day and we’re not as interruptive as other reviews would have us believe. The lake, while the water was a little low was extremely clean and fun to fish and tube. The best part is the large lot and lack of Neighbors. Navigating the twisting driveway with a large boat and trailer was rather difficult but possible. Some work could be done to trim the trees back a bit. Overall, this is the best property that we’ve stayed at in the 10 years that we’ve been picking places in northern Michigan. We had a successful fish fry and so much fun enjoying the view fire pit and wonderful weather.
The cabin was exactly as described, absolutely darling! It’s right on the lake (which is beautiful). We enjoyed all of the amenities of the cottage including the kayaks, peddle boat, grill, fire pit, and fully stocked kitchen. Everything you could think of is available for your use. Just show up with your groceries. And if you forgot something you are about 25 min from a either a Meijer or Walmart in Gaylord. We loved staying at Guthrie Pines and hope to return soon.
House a little dark but so well stocked.
We spent three nights at this secluded cabin at the peak of gorgeous fall color. Everything we needed was available at the cabin - neatly labeled kitchen shelves so we could remember where to put things back, a closet of board games for a rainy afternoon, extra blankets (saw our first snowflakes of the season!), and a super-helpful binder full of information. We drove south one day to Grayling and enjoyed shopping and dining downtown, as well as some hiking at Hartwick Pines State Park. The next day we headed north to Gaylord and saw a dozen or so elk at the Elk Park, wandered around in the shopping district, and bought too much chocolate at the Chocolat Haus. We returned to Grayling for a family-friendly escape room experience at Northern Michigan Escape Rooms, and returned to a fantastic little gift shop, Tip'n the Mitten. The cabin was well-positioned for exploring the area, and had plenty to keep us busy while there, as well. We enjoyed looking at the lake, but it was too brisk to use the paddleboat. The host was very thorough and sent helpful information via email to prepare us for the stay.
Perfect location
Awesome
An oasis off the beaten track, a beachfront cabin in the woods..We really enjoyed our stay there. The only non-positive impression is the well water, other than that, it's a great stay
Comfortable cottage with small beach which the kids enjoyed. Very calm lake with few other swimmers or boaters. Occasional noise from the artillery range. Really had everything we needed for stress free stay. We also enjoyed going into Gaylord to visit Call of the Wild museum/mini golf and go carts.
Cabin is spacious and well-appointed. Close enough to amenities while still getting that wilderness feel. Where else can you see a A10 Warthog fly over?
The Lake is clear, & in front of this house it is shallow so wonderful for small children. My 7 year old Great Niece had a blast. Bird watching was fun. The National Guard was training while we were there.
