Woodstock, New York
The Byrdcliffe House sits on the mountain side above Woodstock’s town square less than 1 mile away. The house is approached by a half circle driveway where you can park off the road. There are a few steps from the driveway and a walk to the house.
You will be surprised at the spacious view when entering the bright house.
From the tiled entrance area which has a bank of windows, you enter the living room with cathedral ceilings, skylights and a large mullion window. The furnishings are colorful, modern and comfortable. Among the many amenities there is a land phone, a flat screen TV’s, Bluetooth for your tunes and Wi-Fi for the house. The Wood burning stove and large stone fireplace is where the painter George Alt had a bright red stove, he once lived in the house and you can see his painting of it in our photographs. The floors are pine throughout the house. The living room and the kitchen-dining area are open separated only by two wide pine steps. From the kitchen and it’s floor to ceiling windows you can see the surrounding deck, pool, spa and outdoors.
The Kitchen is painted in light yellow equipped with cooking stove, toaster oven, microwave, Bella coffee maker, French press, blender, pots and pans, knives, cutlery and all the things you need to cook, eat, drink and be merry. If you want to hang out while someone is cooking you can sit at the bar surrounding the kitchen. The large country antique tavern table in the center of the room was retrieved from a Soho restaurant. The kitchen’s sliding glass doors provide easy access to the two tier wrap around deck where it’s super easy to barbeque or eat outside.
.
The welcoming large cheerful master bedroom has a king bed. There is a small couch to get warm on next to the fireplace, a flat screen TV, air conditioning, comfortable wingback chair for reading or relaxing and in the summer the French doors open to the outside pool.
The second bedroom is entered from the tiled entrance. Away from the rest of the house, this room is cozy with a queen bed, flat screened TV, windows, large closet, air conditioning and interesting art work.
Off the living room to the right is a small sitting room with a writing table and a slay bed couch that can double as a single bed if there is an extra guest.
The bathroom has a really large claw foot tub, a separate shower with all the extras, towels, and hairdryer. If you need, there’s a washer and dryer in the heating room.
Outside from the sunny cedar deck you can see the scope of the completely fenced in private one acre. The top deck has outdoor furniture, tables /chairs and a gas BBQ . The lower tier deck has a large patio table with an umbrella, chairs and lights for night use.
From the deck you look down on the pool, and with only a few steps you are there. The pools cedar decking is surrounded by forsythia and lilacs bushes which provides privacy. There, you can barbecue, snack, or sunbath on lounge chairs. The pool size is 40 x 20 feet, 4 to 9 feet deep. The pool light welcomes night swimming and is beautiful to just look at from the deck or inside the Byrdcliffe House. It’s open May 15th until Oct.1st
We had a great time at Byrdcliffe house. We stayed for a month. The pool is amazing, surrounded by trees and a large yard. Lots of privacy but about a 15 minute walk to town, 3 minute drive. The house is comfortable and homey, and has all the things you need. It was a peaceful stay, a great escape from the city and we are already ready to book for next summer, but for longer. Mike the manager was responsive to any question and got back to you right away. Woodstock has good restaurants, nearby hikes, creeks to swim in etc. even during a pandemic it was a really great visit. Thanks again Mike! we will be back!
We rented the house for 4 nights and we left after the 1st night. Not only the house is in horrible conditions (wood floor was rot, fridge and freezer did not work properly – almost all our food went bad), but the main issue was that there was NO RUNNING WATER. When we contacted the host/ landlord Mike, he was extremely rude and said that we had used too much water. We had just arrived! Mike is a horrible person and acted in bad faith the whole time. We were all astonished with his behavior. As this house had some bad reviews, I made sure to call him before booking to ask some questions about the reviews – on the phone he was pleasant and blamed the bad reviews on the guests. Once I booked, he never replied to any of my messages. I tried to call and text him before the check in date and he would not pick up… after I insisted a few times, he eventually picked up and he didn’t even know which house I was renting. He also said not to call him anymore. I should have known there and then that he was up to no good. When we got in the house and realized how horrible it was and the fact that there was no running water, we called Mike and he was extremely rude and said that the house had water and it was not his fault. We had to put pool water in a bucket to use to flush the bathroom. It was a nightmare. We came back the next day as house was uninhabitable. We tried to contact Mike several times to request a refund, and he refused to pick up the call or respond to messages. HomeAway also was not able to help as they said this was a maintenance issue and only the landlord could provide the refund. Long story short, we lost our money and had the worst rental experience of our lives. I can’t understand how HomeAway allows him to keep this property in their platform. Be aware.
This house has a lot of rustic charm, and the pool is a welcome relief on a hot August day (and quite lovely the way the flower bushes are landscaped around it). Recommended for people looking for a real Woodstock/Byrdcliffe feel. Management quickly responded to any questions I had about the house.
The lovely home was comfortable and welcoming. The pool was perfect and clean. The park like yard was great for the dog to explore. We’ll be back.
Clean, organized, well maintained, very comfortable beds, fully stocked kitchen, gorgeous pool and jacuzzi.
We rented this property for 4 nights over Memorial weekend, and ended up staying only 3 nights as we were very disappointed on several accounts. The entry way was dirty when we first walked in. The high ceiling fan was so caked with dirt that we were afraid to turn it on for fear that the dirt would fly everywhere. Although the front door was locked, both sliding glass doors were unlocked when we arrived. We had come there for both work and leisure and found out within a half hour that the internet did not work. The manager was not helpful and we had to call the cable company ourselves to get it back up and running. The pool was very dated and dirty. The hot tub was unusable as the jets did not work properly and there was significant sediment in the bottom. The refrigerator barely kept things cold, and the freezer was not cold enough to make ice or keep anything frozen. Overall a very very disappointing experience. The manager seemed to feign that everything was just fine when he checked it.
Clean, tasteful, comfortable.
Well appointed Sunny house on quiet property. Beautiful wide plank floors throughout. Close to Tinker St. and Levon's Barn. Would absolutely come back.
The Byrdcliff House met every need and there were many: location, pet-friendly, spacious enough to accommodate two of us working remotely full-time and two large dogs, and activities nearby. The house really is magical - you have to stay to understand why. We loved the area immensely - we were able to get out and explore with ease - from hiking to the Fire Tower, to counting waterfalls to Sundown, to going to Bethel (concert site of Woodstock), to the Saugerties lighthouse, to Kingston, to breakfast at the Cooper Lake firehouse, touring the Byrdcliff colony - hike to the quarry, dinner in Rhinecliff, drinks at the Diamond Mill, drive to the Eagles aerie, sunset at the reservoir. The house has great amenities - plenty of gourmet cookware, comfy beds, towels (bath and beach), spacious living areas and lots of light to let the sunshine in, high speed wifi and cable. The large is large (soggy in some spots and the fence needs a tad of repair - don't just leave your inquisitive dog outside). Snow removal was no problem, and we opted to do all of our laundry in nearby Kingston. The decks need some repairs - in the works. We found the neighbors charming, and Michael there when/if we needed him. We had our privacy and respected others' - zero issues. Hard to leave. Should you find your self at the Byrdcliff House - take care of her and show her some love. She will love you back.
Our host, Mike, was a treasure! The accommodations were outstanding~~~~~ Hidden Gem! Amazing House, in the Mountains of Woodstock. Located in Woodstock, 2 mile to the town Woodstock. Very spacious with all the amenities you could want of a rental. The bed was extremely comfortable, the living room with a wood burning stove was quaint and cozy. The place is clean and meticulously neat .It was a comfortable, private house with a deck, pool and hot tub. We sat on the deck under the trees and enjoyed the fresh air! Perfect location.
