You'll be just over a half-mile from the historic downtown shops and restaurants. Manistee is appropriately known as the Victorian Port City, and this elegant Victorian home in the heart of Manistee is part of that rich history. The house was originally built for Robert R. and Harriet (Hattie) Blacker in 1892. Robert Blacker was a successful businessman in shingle production, lumber, railroads, banking, drugs, steamships, and waterworks in the late 1800s. He also served in several political offices, including state legislature, Mayor of Manistee, and Secretary of State.

This historic gem is conveniently located in the heart of Manistee. It is only one mile to Lake Michigan and about a short walk to downtown shopping, restaurants, festivals, and everything Manistee offers. You are near it all! Discover must-visit attractions within a short drive, including Ramsdell Regional Center For The Arts, Manistee Golf & Country Club, Lighthouse Park, Manistee North Pier Lighthouse, Douglas Valley Winery, Little River Casino, Orchard Beach State Park, Sundling Park, Captain John Langland Park, Crystal Mountain, and Caberfae Peaks.

This three-level Victorian retreat has had several updates, including new lighting, refinished original hardwood floors, and a new kitchen island. As you enter, you will discover a welcoming and bright living room with inviting sofas and chairs, a smart TV with streaming and cable services to keep you entertained, and a gas fireplace for wintertime visitors. When mealtime comes, channel your inner chef and surprise your guests with delicious homemade meals prepared in the large kitchen, equipped with all stainless steel appliances and a smart TV for additional entertainment.

When it comes to outdoor living, the home boasts a fenced yard. Two covered front porches with seating offer great spots to unwind and rest. Additional perks include a Ping-Pong table, board games, a firepit, a gas grill, and a washer/dryer.

This house is great for a big group ! Maybe some more dish towels and a kitchen sponge or dish cloth. And another rug inside the kitchen door to keep the floor clean.

The house was very spacious for our family, as we had multiple groups, the kitchen was fully stocked, and the home was very nice, but check in was at 4, and we could not even check in because they did not finish cleaning until 4:50. They did a horrible job cleaning, as they didn’t even dust basic surfaces like the top of dressers or tv stand, and they hadn’t been dusted in a very long time because it was a thick dust in areas. The grass was very long in the back and front, even by the fire pit, and they didn’t have a direct person to contact, which was disappointing with Vrbo, as usually you can contact someone fairly easily. The house would be 4-5 stars if they had a better cleaning service.

Interesting that all the *wonderful* reviews are from 2024 or before. {one from '25 is obviously for the wrong place.} LOVED the location, neighborhood, downtown Manistee & of course the proximity to Lake Michigan. Living area was great as were porches. Bedrooms were mostly nice - Master, very beautiful (but a spindle for the TP holder would've been welcome!) A leak in the ceiling of the double bunk room made for an interesting night during a storm... !!! Bunk beds in both rooms were squeaky, didn't feel sturdy. Architectural features were amazing but seating is wholly inadequate for meals for a large group. A *clean* folding table or two plus folding chairs would remedy this. (There were several issues with cleanliness.) While those with whom we communicated were unfailingly polite, they were also not very helpful. I MUCH prefer to rent a home where I am communicating directly with the owner. I'm thinking this may have been a recent change, hopefully only temporary. Bath towels, bedding were very adequate but 2 dish towels was unacceptable for that many people in a house. (and yes, we asked for more, were told someone would bring them but they never did. I ended up buying dishcloths to use.) Yes, we can do laundry (machines were nice & worked fine) but you can easily need 4 or 5 towels in a day! It was great having all 16 of us in one place. We would love to see some positive changes so we could rent this home again.

We had 12 people in our group, plus a few who came and went, and always felt like we had room in this lovely historic home in Manistee. We had enough space to gather in the front room for a movie on the big TV. And then at night we had lots of bedrooms for everyone to head their separate ways to. There is a table and chairs in the fenced in yard, plus a fire pit. And there are two spacious porches as well. We enjoyed all of these outdoor spots. We liked the distance to the beach - about a mile. And downtown is about .3 mile away.

We really enjoyed our stay in this beautiful home in Manistee. About a mile from the beach and 1/3 mile from downtown, it was a great launching point for our day. And for those of us who wanted to chill out, the peaceful porch was an option. The front room was our favorite to gather in - we had movie night watching on the large modern TV snuggled on the comfy sofa and loveseats. We had plenty of space for three families of four and one or two others who came and went. We’ll all remember our stay!

Would stay here again! The house was very spacious for the large group that we had. The amount of cookware and dishes as well as kitchen tools was amazing and more than you'd find in most rentals. The neighborhood was lovely, and very close to everything within Manistee.

We had a very fun & memorable stay at The Blacker House. Extended family enjoyed the spacious kitchen/pantry areas, dining room, living room/sitting areas, porch, and ping pong game room. How wonderful to gather and spend time together! The house is in a great location, walkable to town. All bedrooms (2 are passthroughs) are beautiful and comfortable with nice linens and towels (thought we were going to run out of towels but found extra ones in closet and both laundry & dishwasher detergent pods are provided as well as travel size soaps and shampoo/conditioner). The host is awesome in providing instructions/reminders about stay and extremely prompt in responding to any questions/concerns. We would definitely stay here again!

Our stay at The Blacker House in Manistee was tons of fun. The house is huge and has so much beautiful woodwork throughout the home. Seeing all the history within the home was amazing. If you're looking for a pristine, modern home, this is not the house for you. But, if you're looking for ample space with history - this could be a great fit! A large grill, big kitchen, dining room, and living room (plus lots of bedrooms and a ping pong room!) make it an easy house for getting many people together. Our kids had tons of fun playing the yard, and heading to the park across the street. The downtown area of Manistee was only a few blocks away and we were able to take some great walks to enjoy the area. Overall - a great trip to Manistee!

We had a surprise 60th birthday party for one of our siblings. The house had everything we needed to prepare all our meals, to sleep comfortably and restfully. The large living room gave us ample room to rest, relax and enjoy each other. Manistee offers a fun downtown with restaurants and shops. We spent hours hiking and at the beach. It was a wonderful weekend full of memory making.

Built in the 1890’s the woodwork is amazing. We enjoyed the ping pong table on the third floor but to get to one of the bedrooms you had to walk through another one. Plus, the bathroom on that floor was a half bath making it a chore to take a shower which were all on the second floor. The kitchen has all new appliances and two refrigerators. Plenty of space to dine. The group that takes care of it for the owners were very good in helping us to fix a few issues sending a guy right over. All in all a good house (wifi & 3 TVs) for a big group, but don’t expect perfection Just enjoy and have fun!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
