Great views of the Atlantic Ocean, high on dune, close to beach access, BHI

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Overall, we had a great stay. Watch Hill is in a great location, close to beach access, great views from the house, great interior spaces for a large group holiday. The vacation rental staff were very responsive addressing several issues which arose during our stay. The house was mostly clean when we arrived, except for a tub of trash and unfinished laundry in the laundry room when we arrived. Also, the water was turned off when we arrived. We do think the property would benefit from some maintenance, however. For instance, when we tried to open the double-hung window in one of the bedrooms, the top half of the window crashed down to the sill. A lamp in one of the bedrooms was dead-replacing the light bulb didn’t help.the shower head in one of the bathrooms only drips. There was no trash pan in the house. The bedroom doors to the deck in one room don’t open, and in the other bedroom,they had to be forced. It was obvious the windows had not been washed recently- they need a good cleaning. The batteries in one golf cart could no longer hold a charge and had to be replaced during our stay. These are small things, but show that the property could use some TLC and a good working over by a handy person, which would make Watch Hill really shine.

Refrigerator was too small to fit food for a long weekend, and the stove burners were hard to use. Water pressure was extremely low and water filter did not work. Many doors were very hard to open.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Cons- the DRIVEWAY! We had to endure this every golf cart ride, beach outing, bike ride and walk. It was bad. The ruts are so big you will chip your teeth and the gravel. And its a long uphill climb from the road. The fridge is small and the ice maker broken. The four ice trays wouldn't freeze so we had to buy bags of ice. Frozen food from my cooler thawed. They serviced it while we were there but it didn't help. You NEED ice especially at the beach. No beach towels which were listed as included and the 4 beach chairs were on their last legs. No umbrella or bikes that was it. Not the normally included things we are used to with BHI rentals. We have been coming here for 25 years and are former owner/renters so we know its hard to upkeep a house but... Pros- the view, the updated bathrooms and the kitchen was well appointed. Would've have loved a decent non stick for eggs and more cleaning supplies.

The view is amazing and the home is beautifully furnished with lots of lovely details including comfortable beds. Lots of light and lovely places to sit and so close to the beach. There are lots of stairs which can be a challenge for arrivals and departures with luggage. And a few details that need some attention. When we saw that there is actually an elevator, we were so relieved until we learned it is out of service with no plans by the owner to fix it. It's a shame as we were traveling with an individual with special needs and that would have been so helpful. Also there were some broken blinds and door locks which were a little inconvenient. The management company went above and beyond to help us out in many ways and were always friendly. Still thinking about that lovely vacation though....love Watch Hill.

Reviewer Comments: We arrived during the week of the upcoming hurricane so I am going to give the house cleaners some grace especially during Covid. The patio furniture was almost all broken and the cushions were filthy and need to be thrown away. The dishwasher was full of clean dishes and I mean full and the microwave smelt like burnt popcorn. The outside shower was just gross and all of the beach chairs need to be thrown away. There is an elevator but renters cannot use it. One of the golf carts will not charge and so being it was just our family of four, that was alright because it comes with three carts. The property management company was amazing and very helpful. They gave us back $800 for our trouble and I would advise the owners to spend some money to make this house a better rental. There were light bulbs out and the fans upstairs look very unique but are extremely loud and so even without air we never turned them on. We would not go back to this house but will for sure rent again on the island.

The only real issue is getting your luggage etc up that big hill and then getting up the stairs. And getting the cooler and other kitchen stuff up the stairs. It would be nice to have access to the elevator to take up the heavy items...we are older and it was a challenge.

Reviewer Comments: We have long loved Bald Head, but the extensive development along with the COVID precautions made our recent visit less than satisfactory. To pay to be a member of a club we could all but use, let alone wait for 2 1/2 hours for a ferry was more than disappointing. The prices at the market were also beyond reasonable.
