Stayed Jan 1, 2026The place is HUGE. The location is great. It was clean and well stocked. However, it was brutally cold in the common areas. The rooms have small heaters that are adequate for the space. However there is no heating in the common areas and can get very cold. Other than that, it was a great stay.

Stayed Dec 18, 2025Close to the National Park, but the unit has mold issues and our entire family had soar throats/difficulty breathing after 1 night stay. I now understand why the host had most of the windows open when we arrived to hide the smell. Back bedroom with single bed was significantly worse than the other bedrooms.

Stayed Sep 21, 2025This place is huge! There was plenty of room for us to spread out and not get in each other's way. The pantry was also well stocked with things you might have forgotten to bring, which was a plus. The area is in a quiet neighborhood except, of source, for the coqui frogs that plague Hawaii. Even those can be charming with the right mood. We enjoyed a really relaxing stay here and appreciated the convenience to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Sadly, our departure was on a day when the nearby Cafe Ono wasn't open, but there's always next year. I'd cheerfully come back here for another stay!

Stayed May 25, 2025Great location, nice massage chair. Some areas are dated and could use a refresh. Appears to be the second level of owners or another unit (with separate entrance). Wasn't a problem, just would have liked to know this beforehand.

Stayed Dec 22, 2025We only stayed one night and it was a perfect base for our visit to the volcano, about a 10 minute drive away. The home is clean, beds are comfortable, towels are nice and thick, and the TVs are a good size. Only minor complaints are that the kitchen and bathrooms could use an update and the curtains in the bedroom are not wide enough to block all of the morning sun. You need to climb stairs to enter and the owners live downstairs - not a problem for us, but good to know. Communication with the host and the check in process was excellent. I definitely recommend this home!

Stayed Nov 24, 2025The host was very welcoming, and the location is quaint, quiet, and easy to find. The home was clean and well maintained. It’s a convenient short drive from Kīlauea, which was perfect for us since we wanted to visit at night without having to make the long drive back to Kona late in the evening. While I’m not sure what the temperatures are like year-round, guests should be aware that the home can get relatively cool at night. We stayed at the end of November. Space heaters are provided and work very well. We didn’t use them because we enjoy cooler temperatures while sleeping, but they’re a great option if you prefer more warmth.Overall, we really appreciated the quiet, clean environment, which made it easy to relax and enjoy our time in that part of the island.

Stayed Nov 2, 2025Very laid back spot with a ton of space. Tremendous location near VNP. Got up early and went into the park to see the morning eruption on Kiluaea. Visited the steam vents and then went to breakfast at Volcano House. Came back to the house and checked out. If you are a city folk like us, just start the humidifier when you check in. It makes the house far more comfortable. Everything was as expected and pictures are accurate. I wish the access was through the front door and parking was in front of the house. It would make lugging luggage far easier, but I’m young so not a huge deal. Thanks for letting us use your place!

Stayed Jul 7, 2025Unexpectedly wonderful. Book so we could be close to Volcano park and it was such a great size comfortable home. Per usual for vrbo the kitchen utensils were lacking, but not enough that it took away from our family time. Being only 8 minutes from the park we were able to watch the webcams and head to the park for a show. Blessed to see the volcano in action. Thank you!

Stayed Mar 23, 2025Host has rules that are not in the listing such as limit use of the washer to once per day (after I complained about the rule host relented) and handwashing dishes even though there is a dishwasher. Host provides two full baskets of cleaning detergents but no laundry detergent, bring your own. After you decide to book their is a required add-on of 75 for insurance or a 1,500 deposit. Most furniture is old and dated and not in line with a 1,500 deposit. The house is big, the furniture is comfortable, and we could heat the bedrooms adequately (didn't try the rest of the house). It's a perfectly fine cabin in the woods.

Stayed Mar 9, 2025This home provided excellent accommodations for our brief stay in the Volcano area. It sits at the end of a very quiet street nestled in the rainforest and is just five minutes away from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The rental includes the entire upstairs of the two-story home with only external access to the upstairs, so it is entirely separate from the downstairs. The hosts live in the lower floor, but are very respectful of privacy, so it doesn’t feel like you are sharing space. Check-in was very easy and the instructions provided were clear and helpful. The rental is spacious with three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a large living room and den, so there was plenty of space for our group of six adults. We found that the home had everything we needed, including a fully equipped kitchen. After a long day of hiking in the park, the massage chair was put to good use by all of us and made for a nice bonus perk. The beds were all comfortable to sleep in and space heaters kept us warm during the nights when temperature dips. My only criticism is that the listing doesn’t make it clear that you are occupying one floor the house and the hosts live downstairs. Regardless, we really enjoyed our stay at the home and would definitely stay again in a future visit to area.

Stayed Mar 1, 2025We visited the big island for a week and stayed here for the entire time. The house is a short drive to Hilo, and Volcano National Park is only 5 minutes away. Communication with the owner was prompt with easy to follow instructions to get to and access the property. The house itself is the second story of a two level home with access via outdoor stairs. We did have some reservations about the home having an unexpected occupied main level with rambunctious kids along, but we did not receive any complaints about noise. It has spacious sitting and sleeping areas with large windows to let in lots of light during the day with a view of trees and plants completely surrounding the property. The kitchen was well equipped and able to handle making meals for our family, and the house had items such as paper towels, toilet paper, towels, linens, and even beach towels available for our use which was fantastic to not have to worry about! Each room has a small space heater to keep away the chill at nights, so each room can sleep with their own desired temperature. We were gone during the warmest parts of most days, but opening windows was sufficient to rapidly cool the home down when we returned. Overall it was a fantastic and relaxing stay! Thank you!

Stayed Jan 7, 2025My family of six just needed a place to stay for one night between seeing Volcanoes National Park and Hilo and this place served that purpose fine. A couple things to keep in mind ... We didn't turn the space heaters on and had a chilly night's sleep. Also the window treatments and skylights don't keep the morning light out. Overall, we were happy though.

Stayed Jan 3, 2025Our family of six stayed overnight at this property when we traveled over from Mauna Lani to visit Volcano National Park. The house is even better than advertised and as well-equipped as many more expensive rentals (especially the kitchen) with super comfortable beds and pillows. As other reviewers have mentioned, the massage chair was great. Parking was a little tight (we had a large SUV) but manageable. Overall a fantastic stay.

Stayed Nov 16, 2024This home is nice for an affordable base near the park if you want the flexibility of being able to relax in a quiet neighborhood. The kitchen is well appointed as is the open design living and dining room. Having access to a full size washer and dryer is a huge bonus given the amount of rain on this side of the island. The 3 bedrooms have comfy beds and linens. The towels in the 2 bathrooms were plush and absorbent. There is a skylight or something above the bed in the bedroom with the en-suite bathroom, and that was a bit challenging for sleep since light filters in even at night. Heavier curtains or shades would be nice for all bedroom windows. During the day, having so many windows throughout the home is fabulous! We didn’t use the huge bonus room- but it certainly adds extra space if needed. This home isn’t suited for folks who would be challenged to walk up or down an outside staircase as all of the rooms are on the second level. We didn’t meet the owners/caretakers but they were responsive to our questions submitted through VRBO.
