Summary:

Wake to ocean views and the call of seabirds in this light-filled coastal home. End the day in your private hot tub with the ocean as your soundtrack. Bring your pup -- dogs love the bluff trails here. Room for 6 in this 3-bedroom home. Sea Ranch community pools, tennis courts, and the Lodge are nearby. Architecture, nature, and the Pacific -- Sea Ranch has it all. Step outside and the Pacific stretches before you -- this is the Sonoma Coast at its most dramatic.

r>The Space:

A piece of Sea Ranch history awaits at this inviting, three-bedroom home, an architectural gem with views overlooking the coastal meadow and the wide Pacific Ocean. As one of the first homes built by the renowned Sea Ranch architect Joseph Esherick, Eurella has the added distinction of being the house where Esherick stayed while he was building the famed Hedgerow Houses.

Beautifully set on one acre of land guarded by a cypress grove, Eurella is full of coastal light and comfort both inside and out. A wall of windows brings together the living and dining rooms, where you can place a log on the fire, curl up with a good book or a crossword on the plush sectional sofa, or gather around the table for a homemade meal or a board game with a view of the ocean and passing deer. The trail just off the deck leads directly to Black Point Beach and the oceanfront Bluff Trail, allowing you to spend your days whale- and seal-watching from the shore. Back at the house, you'll find respite from the ocean winds in the protected garden courtyard with a stately tree that shades the space and a private hot tub tucked away beneath a gazebo.

Swap out your bathing suits for a warm pair of socks from the washer/dryer, begin dinner preparations using the kitchen's stainless steel appliances, and bring a glass of wine out to the back deck or the garden patio to marvel at the golden hour light. As the fog begins to roll in, you can spend the evening in three bedrooms - one with a king-size bed and a snug window seat, and two (a queen room and a room with two twin beds) with access to the outdoors. Golfers can also tee off at the Sea Ranch Golf Links, a oceanfront course only six miles north.

Bring your pup along -- this home welcomes up to 2 dogs.

The Neighborhood:

Perched along the Sonoma Coast, The Sea Ranch is a nature lover's paradise -- think tidepools, wildflower meadows, and redwood groves at your doorstep. Nearby highlights include community heated pool and hot tub (South) (3-minute drive), Pebble Beach access trail (3-minute drive), Black Point headland trails (4-minute drive). Trails lead from your door to the bluffs, beaches, and through the forest. Heated pools, tennis courts, a fitness center, and The Sea Ranch Lodge round out the amenities. Stock up in Gualala, just 10 minutes south, where you'll find grocery stores, restaurants, a hardware store, and gas. Bodega Bay is a beautiful drive for fresh seafood.

Getting Around:

This home sits on the ocean side of California Highway 1 in the southern part of Sea Ranch, with a trail that leads from the back deck directly to Black Point Beach (a five-minute walk) and the Bluff Trail. When you're not out hiking, beachcombing, or catching a glimpse of whale spouts on the horizon, you'll be a quick three-mile drive from the always wonderful Twofish Baking and eight miles south of the Surf Market, Trinks Cafe, and Four-Eyed Frog Books in downtown Gualala. Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport (STS) in Santa Rosa is the nearest airport, about 1.5 hours east. A car is essential for exploring the area.

Other Things to Note:

Dog-friendly for a nightly fee

Firewood provided

Good to know: the caretaker lives in the guest quarters on the property

Sea Ranch has three recreation centers with heated pools, saunas, and tennis courts. Access passes are provided with your stay -- check availability upon arrival as these shared amenities can be popular during peak times.

Exterior lighting is minimal by design to preserve the stunning dark sky -- bring a flashlight for evening walks and enjoy some of the best stargazing on the California coast.

Keep your eyes on the horizon from December to April -- gray whales migrate just offshore, and this property has a front-row seat. Visit in spring and the meadows explode with wildflowers. April through June is peak bloom season along the Sonoma Coast. The warmest months are June through September. Expect coastal fog most mornings that gives way to sunny afternoons.

Cell service can be spotty along the coast. The home has WiFi for staying connected.

Beautiful home. Could use a little TLC (some spaces a little musty) but it was overall functional and comfortable. The outdoor spaces and views were unbeatable. Close to Black Point Beach, Moonraker pool and the lodge. Well-appointed kitchen to cook in. We did run into a mouse issue in the laundry room - mostly a problem because it drove our dog crazy.

Beautiful home, lovely location, sweet hot tub on the patio, great sunset watching! You can access the bluff trails and Black Point beach on foot, as well as Sea Ranch Lodge. Great sunset watching from the deck. Very private-feeling property because there aren’t neighbors super close by. We had a great stay!

The place could use some work, but very cool design and we did enjoy ourselves. There could be some dryrot in the decking and could use an upgrade for safety and longevity

Lovely setting, but there were issues. Something was falling from the ceiling onto the bedroom with the queen bed. The back bathroom was not clean, windowsills not clean, mold on the shower curtain. Old dog poop was on the deck. Leaves were on the floor in the hallway when we arrived.

Overall positive, but a few points made it unlikely that we would return. Positives: house was mostly very clean, well-furnished, and we enjoyed all the art. Location was very good, nice ocean views. Negatives: the 2nd bedroom had not been properly cleaned/vacuumed, heating system & hot tub turning on were both noisy, no paper/cardboard to start fires in the wood stove, lighting in the 2nd bedroom was very poor, and the dining table is in sore need of refinishing as it is permanently tacky. (This comes from cleaning it with products that degrade the finish.)

We enjoyed our stay in the house is walking distance to the Bluffs and beach. The caretaker’s house is attached to the rental home. That was not clear in the description. This did not bother us, but it might bother some.

Check with property owner before booking. The queen room at the front of the house was uninhabitable as a very large amount of termite droppings was falling onto the bed, & floor. I noticed a previous review on the Vacasa website mentioned this as well and the reply from the property manager was that they now had an exterminator, but this place probably needs to be tented. Two in our party had to find accommodations elsewhere. Vacasa did give us a partial refund in compensation. Also, there is no heat in the twin bedroom. The wall heater is non functioning There is a super mini tabletop fireplace that produces no heat. We did not report this problem, but just threw on extra blankets. Otherwise, the house is mostly as described.

Overall the home was wonderful - just what we needed to get away. Easy (maybe a bit far if carrying stuff) walk to the beach. We had one cleanliness issue. I would stay there again.

An architecturally beautiful and interesting house, full of all the standard amenities needed for a relaxing vacation. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook several group meals. It is also a very short walk to the Sea Ranch Lodge, about 15 min.

There is a peacefulness about the place. It is a great place to unwind and relax. The two enclosed garden patios are a real pleasure and provide plenty of privacy while enjoying the outdoors
