WE ALSO HAVE A SECOND BEACH HOUSE ACROSS THE STREET. IT IS LISTING #572433! If you're looking for lots of space for a large gathering, consider renting both houses. Be quick though, this (2014) was our first summer and both houses rented super quickly.

Parking is limited but there is a hotel a few minutes up the road to others to park. The owner communicated well and was very responsive before my travel date. Great rental !
Great location, outside of the house is beat. They deck is not a deck it’s a walkway. Boards are in need of help and all paint is peeling. Wouldn’t walk on it without shoes. Hornets hovering over the side of the house, bushes all over grown. Needs new coolers & the grill is completely rotted out, very unsafe. Inside is really nice. Can’t beat washer/dryer & central air at the beach!
This cottage is in a great location near the beach. The dining room table and appliances were nice. Plus pets are allowed. That’s where the niceties ended. We took sand chairs to the beach. They were so rusted one of them broke when we sat in them. The twin beds had horrible plastic linings on them. Other renters have commented on these. You can get mattress liners that are better quality for not a lot of money. The beach towels were ratty and the bath towels were few and far between. I’ve rented a cottage almost every year for the past 35 years. My friend and I spent over $3,000 to stay in your cottage for a week. If you spent a few hundred dollars on decent twin bed mattresses and bedding, some new towels and tableware that’s not all scratched up from going through the dishwasher a hundred times you would have gotten a much better review. It’s just not a comfortable feeling place to stay. Margie D.
Nice house, pictures accurate, clean and tidy! Overall it was a nice stay but there are some updates that could be used, like more basic kitchen items and new beds. Not a ton of silverware or cereal bowls to use so we ended up buying paper and plastic for the week. The AC worked great, beautiful view of the water from the living room and porch area. Small gas bbq on the porch was nice for a few homemade dinners. However, there wasn’t much of a yard. We had brought some kiddie games and outdoor things to do but really had nowhere to do them. There are a couple of private beach options, the furthest one is the largest if you have a bigger group. All walkable even with little kids. The smaller beaches don’t fit more than 1-2 groups and also looked pretty rocky when tide was low, so we didn’t use them. Only 2-3 other families were at the larger beach with us at a time, it was usually pretty empty except for us, which was really nice! Ice cream truck comes by every day at different times - the lady was so friendly and prices were low; this was a highlight for our kids! Parking was tricky for large SUVs, and there’s only room for 2 cars maximum. Strict no street parking allowed in the neighborhood, so there’s no wiggle room for a 3rd car. We had to have our friends park at the Big Y grocery store (4 min drive) and carpool them back to the house when they came over for the afternoon. Luckily no issues at the Big Y with our car. Not sure what we would have done if we had more than 2 cars that needed to stay overnight. We also blew a fuse the second day when we ran the dryer and the dishwasher at the same time; thankfully the owner was quick to respond and walked us through instructions on finding the fuse box. No issues after that because we were careful not to turn on too many things at once. The lighting in the bathrooms were very dim, difficult to see in the shower with the curtain closed. Wonderful shopping, restaurants and mini golf.. all of which were great in Westbrook and neighboring town, Old Saybrook!
Home away from home. We enjoyed our stay and was amazed how beautiful Connecticut seaside is. So close to everything.
Great location and neighborhood with spectacular views! House was very clean. Living area was large and open. Twin beds were uncomfortable according to our kids. If you use a lot of towels, I recommend bringing more. Loved this place and would come again!!
Beautiful property with access to a great private beach with plenty for the kids to do and explore. Only downside was that the master had a queen bed, which I simply missed at booking. Overall, a wonderful place to stay.
Waited over a week to post this review to make sure I had time to reflect upon this experience properly (not reactively)... The neighborhood is lovely. The views are as described. The beaches are lovely & cozy. The house was... um... less than. I walked into the house expecting clean, contemporary, well appointed. I believe the description read ‘professionally decorated’? While there a few nice pieces in the space, the swayback sofa table under TV, the lack of rugs, the warped countertops and cabinets with food stained fronts, the walls with drippings, the plastic wrapped mattresses on the twin beds, the one small carpet in the bedroom that hasn’t been vacuumed in ?, the dirty floors (I swept upon entering, finding both human & pets toenail clippings), the food left in the crevices of the beautiful antique farm table (we ate at it once then couldn’t stomach it again) were a distraction from the ‘professional decorating’. Then there were the dining room chairs. While eating the one meal we ate there (before discovering the remnants of lord knows how many past meals), one of the dining chairs broke underneath my son, a fit 33 yr old, sending him backwards into the radiator (hip high vintage cast iron) and splitting his head. Not deep enough for stitches but worrisome enough to warrant a watch for concussion. Upon expecting the other chairs, we found 3 others on the verge of breaking. When I wrote to Nick about the incident, he did not seem too concerned about a guest getting hurt due to maintenance negligence. He briefly commented on my son being okay and his next sentence was ‘those chairs are antique and very expensive’.... I thanked him for his classist remark and explained I had removed the chairs from around the table that needed maintenance and upon inspection we found the cross brace pieces had pulled out from the legs - nothing a little furniture repair 101 wouldn’t fix. Long story short, here’s my suggestion: for the price, look elsewhere. I washed the dirty cabinet fronts, swept the floors, left the drips on the walls, enjoyed the views and the walks around the neighborhood and on the beaches. Perhaps others do not mind this level of slovenliness at this price? ?♀️
Cozy and convenient. Beautiful view. Perfect winter getaway.
We had a wonderful stay. Waking up each morning to views of the ocean and the birds was so relaxing. The beach is a very short walk. Stores/grocery are 1 mile away (super convenient location). Nick, the owner, was also super responsive and patient. Very much appreciated. We'll be back soon.
