The previous reviews prepared us for what we were to find. The house was hard to find, especially after dark. We had a very cool week, but if it was warmer, we were concerned that it could be hot in the cottage. Previous reviews mentioned bugs, but we did see two roaches the entire week. It was very spacious and had a nice view.

The cottage was amazing! The views of the sailboats out the upstairs bedroom window were picturesque.Danielle was great to communicate with, and the property was great!

This rental is in a great location, and I personally love how rustic it is. It was fairly straightforward to find in the daytime. I love the dirt road dotted with apple trees and deer leading up to the property. The host left a hand-written note and some chocolates upon arrival, which was a lovely touch. The 2 decks are a great amenity and I enjoyed starting the day out there with a hot cup of tea. The inside is spacious, well laid out, there are plenty of towels, and the rooms are neatly arranged. The view in the upstairs bedroom is incredible. Beds and couches were comfortable. I was happy with the host's level of communication. The host gave us a heads up that the bathroom floor downstairs was recently damaged and was squishy (but safe and being replaced). Some little friends emerged from the bathroom cracks at night (though no roaches). Other things I noticed: patches of white tape in the bathroom and kitchen. Hopefully these are temporary and more permanent fixes are in the works. When in use, the oven emits very hot air out of the left side so we kept windows open at all times out of concern. A window was cracked in the dining room. There were some spots in the house that needed another clean wipe. Some of the rooms with carpet smelled strongly of moisture. This home has a ton of potential to be a 10 out of 10 because the host, location, spacious layout, and yard are great. The rustic surroundings make it special. If improvements are made, I would book here again.

The best part of our stay was seeing the sunrise from our bed every morning

We really liked the house and location. Unfortunately, there was black mold growing on the wall upstairs so VRBO recommended we vacate the property. It was stressful to try to find somewhere else to stay last minute but we got a full refund from VRBO without any hassle. However, once the owner removes the mold, I'm sure it will be a great place to stay because the location was excellent with lovely views of Southwest Harbor.

Sadly this my was worst renting experience of all time. I should have paid closer attention to some of the other reviews. There was zero communication with the host; no check-in info (just hoped the door would be open and it was), no folder in the house, etc. I even called to get the wifi password and never heard back. Found it on a scrap of paper under a pile of other papers. No instructions whatsoever. We had one trash bag and 2 rolls of toilet paper for five people for 7 days with no supplies left. I would have brought my own if I knew that was expected but again, no communication. No working can opener. One night a smoke alarm was chirping and I found three of them in a kitchen cabinet - only one with a battery in it. And no batteries to replace them. Roaches everywhere. Broken screens in every room. Just gross. The outside was overgrown and the view was just meh. Not worth the price. We actually all started feeling sick too - joint pain, sore throat, I got a rash - which resolved as soon as we left. I swear it was mold or something. Nightmare vacation.

Like others, we loved this place and its location. It was quiet with a beautiful view. The beds were nice. We found it clean and well-appointed for our needs. We had wondered why the bathrooms weren't pictured--and if this meant they were terrible--but never fear, there are two bathrooms and they are just fine. Washer/dryer in excellent condition and complete a cycle very quickly. The place is big - in fact there's also a sleeping porch with another bed - and we loved staying on the quiet side, avoiding all the summertime hubbub and traffic. So five stars for the home and its location. Like others, our only quibble was in terms of communication. The place was hard to locate. This could easily have been avoided with better check-in instructions, something like Continue on the road all the way to the top of the hill. You will pass through what appears to be the gated entrance to an animal shelter. Keep going forward. Look for the small reddish barn and park beside it. You have arrived. Like others, we had to reach out to Danielle for both check-in and check-out instructions. There is no in-house communication about the wifi or trash or anything really. Danielle responded quickly to our initial request for wifi password, but when that didn't work, she disappeared (in her defense, it was Saturday night, so perhaps she was out), leaving us without wifi for our first day / night there. My husband needed access for work, so on Sunday, he called Spectrum himself and rebooted the entire system. I let Danielle know that we had finally secured access, and she blamed it on a street-wide internet outage. But she had not provided us with either the correct router or correct password in the first place, and knew of no alternates. In my opinion, she should have called Spectrum Saturday night and handled this for us--and if there had been an outage, should have kept us notified. Our interactions with Danielle were very pleasant, however. With just a few improvements to pre-arrival instructions and addition of a in-house instructions, we would be giving 5 stars across the board. It is truly a lovely home!

Old house: Many areas need attention pest control being the first there were spiders, centipede and a mouse trap was left in the kitchen floor which I am glad I've found that before my 1.5 year old did. I also found mice poop in the couch and kitchen counter and although it wasn't much it was gross. The downstairs bathroom is in pretty bad shape and there were some black things in the floor around the toilet I cant really tell what it was. Whoever cleans the house doesn't really do a good job. The yard is not upkeep as others reviewers have noticed. I would not stay at this house again. We considered not staying there at all once we checked in but I was travelling with 2 infants during Memorial day week so pretty hard to find another place to stay plus my husband had to login to do some work that same day so we ended up staying but I did not enjoy my time there unfortunately. I do not recommend this house for your vacation find someplace else.

We arrived after dark and could not find the house! It's somewhat hidden. Danielle came out and helped us, phew. The house is lovely: large and clean. A secluded street (end is unpaved and quite bumpy) and very quiet. Very nice place.
