Lots of space yet very cozy for a friends weekend! The location was perfect, a close walking distance to downtown. We forgot a few items, including some treasures jewelry and the property was quick to respond and return our items to us. Every room having its own bathroom was a plus, and everything was clean! The only thing missing were a few handy extra items in the kitchen; dish towels, dish rags, foil/plastic wrap. We had a wonderful stay!

The Cargill Pettibone Mansion was beautiful! Plenty of space for a large group. The house had so much character and history. It is in a good location, within walking distance to downtown. The hosts had great communication and accommodated parking with the snow fall. We visited Sweet Beats for jazz during our stay, will definitely be going back! Thanks!

We had a girls weekend in La Crosse this year. The property was beautiful if you enjoy older homes. We loved reading the history about the mansion and the people who lived there. It was great to each have our own bathroom to use. The dining room table was large enough for the nine of us to play games. The kitchen was equipped with all that we needed. It was close enough to walk to the downtown. Thank you for allowing us to stay at your property.

Everything was great! Plenty of space for all of us. What we did miss was things we have had in other VRBOs such as paper towel, paper plates, tin foil etc... basic kitchen supplies. So be sure to pack all of that type of stuff. Other than that it was a really beautiful place

The kitchen was well equipped, though only one larger fry pan was a little disappointing. We really appreciated that you had wine glasses! The one drawback was the fireplace bedroom had an issue where none of the outlets worked and that mattress was not good--very soft and bouncy.

Everything was great for us, we needed a place to stay for one night and thought why not try something other than a hotel. We enjoyed looking at the history of the house and how it came back to life. Obviously, it was much more than two people needed, but it was nice to stay in such a grand place. The kitchen had everything we needed. The location was great, we lived in the La Crosse area for 20 years so it was nice to be back.

We were planning to tour the Lacrosse campus with our two daughters and thought why not make the trip a little more fun and stay in this historic building. It was a very cool building. A few areas of the house that could use a little better cleaning, but the beds were very comfy, the kitchen had all you could need and it easy to check in and out.

We are 4 women in our eighties who have been friends since grade school. We take an annual 4 day trip each summer. This year we wanted to learn about the Driftless area of southern MN and WI. The mansion in La Crosse was the perfect home base for exploring the area. We enjoyed our stay at the Cargill-Pettibone mansion. Lots of room and nice accommodations. We would definitely recommend it to a larger group.

This well-preserved mansion is a look into a bygone lifestyle of a prosperous La Crosse family at the end of the 1800s. The floors alone tell a story of opulance.

Several of us originally from LaCrosse, gathered for a holiday get together, as my elderly mom lives in town. Plenty of nice space for all of us to gather, with comfortable furniture, and a half bath on first floor. Beds were very comfortable, and the kitchen was well stocked for cooking our holiday meal. Matthew has been extremely easy to work with and helpful. The only suggestions I would have is there was very little toilet paper in house, which i feel was an oversight due to everything else being available. Additional towels and wash cloths were available, but we needed to hunt for them. lol! Big house with lots of rooms and closets, etc. Would highly recommend this property.

As advertised. It was what VRBO said it would be. Clean. All the essentials there. Excellent location. Three block walk to Christmas Mass. All the bedrooms we used were ensuite ( great feature). Spacious dining areas. Historical artifacts. Comfortable. We were living in history. The space would have been more than adequate for our family group of eight. The three coming from New York state were last minute cancels due to weather problems, so five of us really had space! This property could handle a group twice our size. Hardly the host's problem and we liked our stay so much it bothered us not at all. Particularly suited to family groups. Bill Leonard

This was the perfect place for 5 UW-La Crosse alumni to spend a few days. After not seeing each other for 50 years, we spent a lot of time talking on the porch, in the kitchen, and the living areas. We walked to UW-L and downtown. The beds were comfortable, and the kitchen well-stocked.

The house is beautifully restored! Reading its history in the provided binder made us appreciate the restoration process even more because of the modern amenities, such as a bathroom with each bedroom, and the modern kitchen. The house gives you a feel for life in a previous era because of the way it is decorated with a mix of modern and period pieces. It is roomy yet extremely comfortable and would comfortably house 10 - 12 people. Just visiting out on the wrap around porch is a delightful experience. We definitely look forward to staying here again. Our only suggestions would be to provide kitchen towels and dishcloths rather than using paper towels, plus more hand towels in the bathrooms. Replacing the unappealing, rather dirty scatter rug as you enter the house would make it a more inviting welcome.

We picked this house because it had large rooms to gather in as a family and it didn’t disappoint. The wrap-around porch also offered a nice outdoor space. The house was beautiful renovated to period times and we enjoyed reading the article in the book about it. Checkin Nd out were all clear and easy.

Staying at this house changed our itinerary … because we spent so much time going from room to room saying, “Can you believe how great this is?” The home lives up to the description and is more impressive than the pictures online. It has been lovingly restored. The bathrooms have a vintage look but are large and wonderfully appointed. Everyone got a great night's sleep; the bedrooms made us feel as though we were staying at Downton Abbey. We enjoyed watching Olympic highlights on the wall mounted TV in the game room. We didn't really use the kitchen, but it is modern and super well equipped. Will absolutely try to stay at this wonderful house again!

This property was stunning and we felt very welcomed. We gathered to celebrate my sister in La Crosse and this home was the perfect spot to do so. The home itself has a lot of character and notes about the history throughout. It was large enough to house all nine of us. It was also within walking distance of food and shopping which we appreciated.
