Stayed Sep 19, 2025Quaint, well appointed farmhouse with modern plumbing fixtures and appliances. Centrally located to Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Rooms are small but comfortable. Everything you need is there. Lots of attention has been given to small details. Private location on low traffic road very close to the Cabot Trail. Very quiet and homey.

Stayed Aug 11, 2025Such a lovely place to stay. Very comfortable and well equipped. We spent a lot of time on the deck and loved it - a humming bird and chipmunk visited regularly and we could enjoy the heat without getting burnt. Unfortunately all the trails in Nova Scotia were closed (fire risk) but we swam a lot at Red River beach. We had a great week.

Stayed Jun 15, 2025We had a great time on our vacation! Niki was an excellent host who responded really quickly and provided very clear information. The house was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. The neighborhood was quiet and we loved the rural location. The local beach was perfect and we were able to explore most of the Cabot Trail via several day trips.

Stayed Jun 21, 2024We enjoyed our stay in the very cute Old Salt Cottage! It was very convenient to adventures in and north of Cape Breton park. Beds were comfy. Cottage is older but well maintained and freshly updated. Gas, groceries, and other convenience stores were not as close, but we were warned (it was not hard to remember to get stuff while we were out adventuring on the Cabot Trail). We would absolutely stay here again!

Stayed Oct 8, 2023We enjoyed our stay and appreciated Niki’s attention to detail. The cottage is in a quiet location in the small village of Pleasant Bay which lives up to its name. Beds were comfortable, the kitchen was well appointed, and we had everything we needed to feel at home.

Stayed Aug 14, 2023It was a great stay. Excellent location just off the Cabot trail with access to the park and not a long drive to Ingonish. Highly recommend for anyone looking to explore this beautiful part of our country. The property exceeded expectations. Make sure to fuel up in cheticamp. If you are arriving via cheticamp the coop grocery store there has anything you may want.

Stayed Jul 9, 2023We are a family of 4 and wanted to be close to hiking, beaches, whale watching, and Cheticamp. We got all that and more. The Old Salt Cottage was a cozy, comfortable retreat for us and an excellent home base for adventuring!
