Loved this place! Had it's own separate little spot for the kids to sleep. Awesome views. The river was a lot of fun. Incredible experience!

The house was sparkling clean when we arrived. The kitchen was extremely well stocked and all the beds were very comfortable. There is a wonderful view of the river from the house. Our family loved hanging out by the fire pit in the back yard and watching the trees and the river. I will say that an earlier review that gave the impression that the property is located in an unsafe area is completely unfair and just plain wrong. The houses surrounding the property are well maintained and clearly upscale. The property itself is an older home but has been renovated nicely. Furthermore, the water system that one person complained about has apparently been fixed. It worked beautifully and the tap water tasted normal. I will say the walk down to the river is very difficult because of mud and rocks-- so unless you are very sure footed I would not recommend it. Honestly the river view from the backyard is much more pleasant and the hike down is not worth it. We would definitely stay here again if we return to the area.

Loved our stay at the River's Edge due to the proximity to Jedediah Smith park and Crescent City. The home has a beautiful view of the Smith river. Walking down to the river is relatively easy but I wouldn't say it's a good place to jump in the river to swim. The rocky boulders and deep river area makes it a little harder to go in, unless you're ready to dive into the cold water and then make your way back up the rocks afterward. The kitchen had everything we needed to make dinner and breakfast. We stopped by Walmart every day (10 minute drive) to pick up food. The pantry was sparse, missing oil and some condiments, but not a big deal since we bought some. I recommend it!

The house was nice but could use some updating. Shower in master bath was extremely small. Electrical plugs were no convenient. The GPS was not accurate but we finally figured it out

You needed 911 on speed dial to walk to the river. Water is drawn from the river and it was filthy! No problem in getting refund from owner but no refund from VRBO!! That will be a fight I’m sure!!

Really appreciated the easy river access and outdoor seating for sunny days! All the water playthings were used and enjoyed. Large indoor spaces for gathering/dining worked well for us. Variety of kitchen equipment helped us, including outdoor barbecue. Additional sleeping space across breezeway worked great for 4 grandsons. Comfortable beds in main house.Wonderful and memorable trip! Glad we could share the special environment of Smith River and Redwoods with our extended family!Good to see the Hiouchi Cafe has upgraded in the last few years…

Beautiful property!!! Worked well for our family! Very relaxing and had the best stocked kitchen I have ever stayed at! I brought extra pots and pans and didn’t even need them! Beds were very comfortable and the whole property was very clean! Stayed with my family and in-laws. I recommend this property.

I’ve stayed in many vacation rentals. None are perfect but most all of them show the owner cares for details or upkeep. This one absolutely not! Looked nothing like the pictures. Run down! Looks and feels like someone’s grandmother left it to them in 1980 and done nothing with it since except throw it up on VRBO. Appliances didn’t work. Stairs to river completely overgrown. Very unsafe! Green algae all over the outside of the house. Weeds all in the beds. Completely broken grass Couldn’t use the pots they were so old the teflon got in our food. Chairs around the table broken. Only midgets could use the master shower. Kitchen cupboards probably never cleaned out. Completely unorganized. Doors coming apart. I can keep going… We actually left early it was so bad. Probably nice in its day but definitely not now.

We LOVED our time here. Honestly, absolutely the perfect kid and family friendly home.We couldn’t have asked for a better vacation. This home/area has it all! We kayaked the Smith river, saw river otters, caught frogs, fish, and were able to explore the redwoods only a few minutes from the house! We also went to the beach and went crabbing off the pier in Crescent City and toured Ocean World. We attended a farmer’s market, the cheese store, SeaQuake brewery, and the Chart House restaurant as well. (The kids enjoyed the park right on the beach too.)We also ventured up the coast, less than 30 min drive, and went to Brookings to get fresh seafood and check out the beach there.Every night we’d come back to the house, and relax outside -listening to the frogs and enjoying a glass of wine. We even made s’mores over the firepit one night! We were able to jam so many activities into our week long stay. My 7 year old daughter actually cried when I told her we were heading home on our last day. She said this was her favorite vacation yet! Thank you for everything! The home and amenities were just outstanding.

The property was right where we needed to stay for our visit to the Redwoods, but we felt it was a little run down and needed electrical updates/repairs. Water pressure was sub-par for bathing/showering. The path down to the river's edge was overgrown and difficult to traverse.
