Stayed Aug 25, 2025Great location on a dune in the trees with a view AND sound of Lake Michigan. I treasure the sound. There is excellent beach walking and it is possible to walk into town by way of the beach. The porches on the main house and beach house are excellent. (see photo) Loved the rocker and swing. The fireplace in the main house made the evenings cozy and the owners provided enough dry wood. The kitchen-dining has large table w enough seating, good knives, a cast iron, and enough pots and oven ware for families who like to cook and eat together. We stayed late in the season so the bunkhouses needed airing the heaters.

Stayed Aug 18, 2025Perfect Lake MIchigan beach house vacation spot for large families. In the woods, private beach, away from neighbors, beautiful old summer compound with screen porches and lovely decks. The property managers are responsive and helpful. Close to amenities, parks, hiking. Everyone in our large group was charmed by the place. My only complaint was that I was confused about what to expect regarding the parking situation which could have been clearer, but we managed to have 6-7 cars there at once without much trouble. I would love to go back.

Stayed Jul 15, 2023I was so optimistic about this property. There are three cabins which was ideal for our group of 11 and small dog. It also has its own beach access. Pros- The separate living areas were ideal for our large group. The beach is BEAUTIFUL- so much private space, white sand, great for swimming. Cons- We were prepared for the stairs, but it’s definitely a con when traveling with kids and elderly. The stairs do NOT have double sided railings and are a little wobbly which makes it unnerving and dangerous in places. -The property was not cleaned to my standards. Many cobwebs, window screens had to remain open because there is no AC which caused many flying bugs to get in (there were holes in the screens. Flying ants in the beach house coming from under the fridge. -Water is not usable besides showering. This was in the listing and we prepared by bringing water, but we didn’t connect that this would also make the washer unusable. -Rodents- we were also told right before the caretaker left that the mice were “bad this year” and to close the screen doors with latches so that they “couldn’t get in”. I assumed this meant they were OUTSIDE, but after the first night my husband woke up to a mouse sighting and this continued throughout the week. They are living behind oven and dishwasher. -parking is an issue -Master toilet was leaking badly. We will not be returning. Caretaker Ben dismissed and blamed issues on previous renters. Disappointed with our experience overall.

Stayed Jul 10, 2021This cottage has 3 separate living spaces: a main cottage with 2 bedrooms, an annex with 3 bedrooms (along with a game room with a ping pong table) and then a separate cottage, which is a short walk down a lovely path thru the trees as you approach the beach. These separate spaces are fantastic if you come with a large group, as it gives you room for time alone as opposed to being all squished together in one cottage. We love it because it's old-school cottage-y, with a super casual vibe, but it's well stocked with every we needed (and more!) for cooking every night, and for long days at the beach with the kids. Communication with the owner and property manager was super efficient, and they responded immediately to any questions we had. You do need to bring distilled water for drinking, and the 47 steps up to the cottage from the parking might be too much for some. But we love it here, thoroughly enjoyed our week, and intend to come back next year.

Stayed Jul 24, 2020We have been coming to Pentwater for 5 years now and love this area. Nestled in the woods but steps to the beach and amazing sunsets. We hosted my in laws this time and they also loved it. This property has great separate living spaces. The stairs up to cabin and down to beach are a lot which it says in listing so we were prepared for that. Cabins are rustic feel but have all modern amenities. Feels like being at camp at bit! Hope to return again!

Stayed Jul 11, 2020We have stayed in many different Cottages along Lake Michigan, and absolutely fell in love with this cottage. This is a casual, old-school cottage, with lots of charm and character. There are multiple separate living spaces, so everyone had privacy/peace and quiet when they needed to escape the larger group. The kitchen was well stocked with every cooking tool needed (we cooked every night) and the beach was great. The pictures for this place do not do it justice. We will definitely come back.

Stayed Jul 13, 2019We lived our stay here. A beautiful old cottage that has been well maintained with just enough modern conveniences. The setting is private in the woods, you forget their are even neighbors. The care taker is very friendly and attentive.

Stayed Aug 22, 2018It was love at first sight. It held wonderful childhood memories around every corner. Telling my grandson about what I did as a child at my grandmother’s doesn’t compare to being able to show him. He now has wonderful tales to pass onto his children and grandchildren. It’s remarkable that this place has added modern conveniences without disturbing the original beauty. The outer walls are original wood and the floors are real wood planks (we have wood in our homes today but it’s not the same; there’s no comparison.). The screened in porch, on the main house, is incredible. (If there was a way to pack it up and take it home I would have.) I sat there in the morning, drinking coffee, listening to the quiet with the background sound of waves hitting the beach. The porch was like a magnet, every time I came in the house I headed there. At night the family sat out there and played games: no electronics or music allowed, just that constant sound of waves. Saved my best memory for last: there’s a bed tucked away in the corner of the porch just like my grandma had. As a child we always fought over who would get to sleep on the porch with the fresh air and night sounds. Luckily for my grandson, no siblings to fight with: it was all his. Don’t let the number of stairs to beach scare you. They are spaced nicely and broke up with flat paths, a deck with chairs and down a little further a cozy bench to rest on while taking in the view. The beach always holds adventures: swimming in waves, digging in the sand, walking the beach, watching the sun set and more. We walked the beach to the pier and found a nice area to sightsee in. It held quaint homes nestled along the canal with awesome gardens. Also, a public beach with restrooms and a dog friendly area. I haven’t even mentioned anything but the main house. The group of buildings to live and sleep in is like a little village. Grandson had fun sleeping in different area every night. Also, kitchen had everything we needed and more: a stove with a bread oven, nice. When you’re looking the house over, don’t miss the pictures in the dining room: they give you a small glimpse into family history. There’s so much more I could ramble on about but you’ll just have to come experience it yourself. One more thing, the caretaker Ben is awesome. If you need to know anything or need help he’ll be right there. And I can’t thank Cathy enough for working around our schedule to make this happen. Denise :)
