Casa Escola da Bica,Two bedrooms, swimming Pool

Living in the design villa Escola da Bica - a unique accommodation surrounded by bananas with 180 degree sea views, pool and outdoor kitchen.

Arco da Calheta is famous for its particularly mild microclimate on the island of Madeira due to its sheltered location in the amphitheater of the high mountains. Warmer, sunnier and less wind - a balanced climate awaits you in both winter and summer. This particular spot on the south coast also has the island's only sandy beach. Due to the central location, you can be in the mountains just as quickly as on the north coast and the capital Funchal (30 minutes by car). The airport is about 40 minutes away.

The former village school of Arco da Calheta has been completely renovated and converted into an exclusive holiday villa. The architects have combined the special charm of the typical Madeiran style with a spacious, modern style. In this way, the old flair of the school could be preserved. The detached house is enthroned 200 m above the sea and has an unobstructed view of the entire sea.

Absolute peace: The special thing is that the house is not adjacent to any busy road and some of the houses in the neighborhood without road access can only be reached on foot. However, there is a well paved access road directly to the house. The neighborhood is green and characterized by old, mature banana plantations. Nevertheless, the quiet house is in the best location in the old town of Arco da Calheta.

You can reach the little paradise by car via a narrow tarred road that ends as a dead end on the property: the electric entrance gate closes behind you, you drive down the long driveway past your own banana trees and use the direct parking spaces at the house. The apartment door is on the garden level down the stairs by the pool. The cozy and spacious apartment has three bedrooms with access to its own large terrace with a direct 180-degree view of the sea. Your own terrace is completely protected, absolutely quiet and stretches over the entire length of the house. Sun loungers and a covered dining table with 4 chairs for the sunset dinner are available on the terrace.
The living room also has this unobstructed view of the sea. TV, a comfortable seating area and the second dining table with 4 chairs are located here. A fully equipped kitchen is integrated in the living room. Cooking and eating outside No problem: In addition to your own kitchen in the apartment, the large, fully equipped outdoor kitchen by the pool can also be used for cooking and eating. If there are guests in the upper apartment, the pool and outdoor kitchen are shared.

The two separate bedrooms each border on the central living room. Both bedrooms are equipped with a double bed, spacious closets, direct en-suite access to their own bathroom with shower and their own terrace access to the sea. One bedroom has a double bed and the second bedroom has two single beds that can be separated if desired. Both bedrooms also overlook the sea to enjoy the special sunsets even better.

If the apartment is used by two people, the second bedroom and the covered dining area on the terrace are ideal for reading, working and chilling undisturbed.

Free, powerful W-Lan/Wifi are available throughout the apartment and on the terrace facing the sea for working and surfing.

The large, fully equipped outdoor kitchen in the outbuilding can of course also be used. Washing machine, dishwasher etc. are integrated here. You can open the wide sliding doors and the kitchen goes directly into the large pool terrace. From the outdoor kitchen and the pool terrace you also have a wonderful view of the sea. Here you will also find the grill for the evening barbecue and other sun loungers with parasols. You are welcome to use the infinity pool, from which you can look directly at the sea below you with a drink in your hand and the sunset.

A cozy outdoor lighting of the house and terrace brings cozy hours even after the spectacular sunsets.
Incidentally, on the completely separate upper floor of the villa there is a second apartment with its own entrance, which has its own terrace overlooking the sea. The two apartments do not have a common stairwell, so you will not be disturbed if someone is in the upper apartment. The upper apartment is often empty and then you can of course also use the second terrace at the top of the house. This is completely covered with glass and fabrics as sun protection. This is one of the finest spots on the property for eating, chilling and working. Of course also with spectacular sea views.

Enjoy the peace and seclusion of the property. Via a second entrance to the property you can walk through the banana groves to the village with the nearby shops, bars, restaurants and the church in 5 minutes.

Cleaning:
Cleaning and linen change are provided. Bed linen and towels are provided.

hiking poles:
2 telescopic hiking sticks are available in the apartment and are welcome to use.

washing machines:
A washing machine is available and can be used.

Grill:
A grill is on the pool terrace and can be used.

Parking:
There are several private parking spaces directly at the house on the property. A small rental car is recommended for touring the island.

Nearby:
There are many walks around Calheta and easy access to the Paul da Serra plateau with its many levada walks makes this villa perfect.

A few minutes drive will bring you to the resort of Calheta, popular with tourists and locals alike with its sandy beaches. There is a marina and a good selection of restaurants and bars and also a large supermarket. A tour of the Engenho da Calheta rum distillery is just as worthwhile as a visit to the spectacular Centro das Artes art museum over the sea.

Madeira is a paradise for those who enjoy walking and hiking - Arco da Calheta is ideally located with easy access to the road network and most places on the island.

Within 15 minutes are the beaches of Calheta, Ribera Brava and Ponta do Sol, the esplanades of Jardim do Mar and Paul do Mar, the Laurasilva forest of Madeira (UNESCO World Heritage Site) and the lunar-like landscape of Paul da Serra reached 1,500 m.

Please note that this is a non-smoking house. Cleaning, bed linen, towels and tea towels are provided.

The house is ideally situated for the beach and levada walks.

View over the village of Estreito da Calheta and the Atlantic Sea.

It was a wonderful place to stay! If we go back to Madeira, I’ll definitely go back here! The house, the view, the region, the garden, the terrace and the infinity pool ware awesome 👌 No complaints for us.

Myself, wife, and child took a vacation to this property. The house is on a quaint local road and it overlooks the ocean. So beautiful. The property manager was there right when we arrive to welcome us, show us around, and make sure we were set. The rest of the trip was great. They gave recommendations for places to visit and restaurants near those spots. We went to a local beachside restaurant 3 times in the week because it was just amazing and friendly. Definitely recommend this place. The property was clean and comfy beds, wonderful shower and infinity pool were great. We could relax at the place and be happy, or explore the island. Nice location between the main city and lots of destinations less than 30 min drive to. We were a little apprehensive because there were not many reviews for the property, but I can verify this place is real and the managers are wonderful. Hope you have as good of a time as we all did.

This was the ideal place to experience Madeira for the first time. The views were stunning and we enjoyed the quiet atmosphere and easy access to all parts of the island. Thank you to Jorge for the warm welcome and beautiful place. We hope to visit again.

We loved staying in this property. The views are spectacular and we used the pool all the time, even in February. The house has everything you need and is spread over two levels - we had the use of an upstairs kitchen next to the pool as well as BBQ which was great for eating out. The outside table downstairs perfect for breakfast. Jorge was really helpful and easy to contact - the access is a little steep and narrow but not an issue once you know where it is. We'd definitely stay there again - perfect mix of privacy and accessibility. I think you might struggle a bit without a hire car though. Thank you Jorge (and the very helpful and friendly neighbours!).

Lovely place, really great sunsets and your own pool with a view. The apartment has everything you need and was clean and comfortable. Jorge was very helpful, especially when he went the extra mile and helped us get our rental car up a very steep road in the neighbourhood where we got stuck one evening. Thanks again.

The house is exactly as described and very well furnished. A kitchen by the pool and a kitchen in the flat. Very good privacy. Discreet and friendly neighbours who look to the house. A good starting point for exploring the whole island. Thanks to the good roads you can get to all 4 corners of the island in a short time. Communication was easy and perfect. The check-in was uncomplicated and reliable. Everything as desired and we will gladly come back again on another occasion.

Great location, great view. Access is a little challenging with the roads being narrow, but not a huge problem. Such a beautiful home!

The villa has superb sea views from an elevated position. Located in the village within walking distance of a small supermarket, cafe/bars and a new hotel/restaurant that is friendly and serves excellent food (10 minute walk). The local harbour is an easy walk down but strenuous on the return journey - there is a well stocked larger supermarket and several places to eat and drink. The road is currently closed at the bottom of the hill close to the harbour which is then only a short walk. The interconnecting pathways between the villas and banana plots provide quick and safe access around the village - requires some exploration to get your bearings. Jorge was helpful and guided us to the villa and provided local information. The location is great for getting around the island using the excellent road tunnel system. Driving is quite easy once you get used to the steepness of the local roads beyond the tunnels - diesel is a good choice. The villa is very well equipped, comfortable and designed for climate - outside living. Funchal is a must to visit. We spent two days there starting with with a walk around the harbour area and adjacent park and a visit to the Madeira Story Centre to get a feel for the local history and culture. The cable car to Monte and the botanical gardens provide fantastic views of the town and harbour. The lava tube caves near Sao Vicente on the north coast are definitely worthy of a visit. There are lots of walks in the mountains alongside the Levada water courses. The 25 Fonts walk is very popular - even in late October.

A lovely villa, equipped with everything you need. It is isolated so you do need a car. From the villas we travelled all over the island, which was great. A lovely relaxing stay!
