Camp Bear Pen is a fun place for your family to spend your time in Highlands. This home has that wonderful ‘Old Highlands’ feel with pine paneled walls, large gathering spaces and screened porch. The living areas are all on one level. You enter using exterior stone steps onto a screened porch then into the great room- large open kitchen, dining area, gas log fireplace, large flat screen TV and entrance to the covered porch to catch some sunset hues through the trees (great winter view). The kitchen has Corian counter tops, all stainless steel appliances and is set for cooking- just bring the cook! You can sit on the screened porch and watch the children play in the backyard, and you can join them later while sitting around the small fire pit, telling ghost stories and enjoying S’mores. There’s a ‘grilling station’ with a charcoal grill. The front yard is more flat and more suitable for lawn games, while the backyard has a rolling terrain with more perennial flowers and moss.
Great floor plan for two families with a split floor plan. One side has the Mst. BR with a king bed and sleep sofa*, and private bath. The opposite wing has two bedrooms and a full bath with a walk-in shower. BR#2 has a King bed + twin bed and TV. The 3rd BR has a KING bed. The guest wing can all be closed off for more privacy.
(Optimally, this home sleeps SIX. There are beds for six adults (King, King+ twin, King). However, there is a sleep sofa in the Mst. BR which could also be counted for up to two people in a pinch/overflow/etc. The sleep sofa is not intended for a lengthy stay. This home is on a septic tank for a three-bedroom home, which allows long-term use for up to SIX people.

The basement has the laundry as well as a full bath with walk in shower.

This home has a three- night minimum, except for HOLIDAYS AND SOME LOCAL EVENTS, which are a one week minimum.
The rental app you are using may allow you to make less than a three-night rental, but that doesn't mean the reservation will be honored.

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This is a dated house but has everything you need. Great outdoor space with fire pit. Functional kitchen with updated appliances. Short drive to downtown and fun outdoor adventures. Working television. Comfortable beds and all kings which was a great perk! My only comments would be that updated bathrooms would be nice. Also, the house smelled a little smoky (like fire pit, not cigarette smoke) but added to the mountain feel. Thankful for a comfortable, affordable place to stay in the Highlands.

Smooth relaxed enjoyable process of reservation and check-in. The house was lovely especially the porches and the Moss lawn. Not walking distance to downtown for most but only a short trip by car

Nearly at the top of Big Bear Pen, the leaves are beautiful! Very nicely accomodated with fireplace, comfortable beds, comfortable places to sit, pop popcorn, watch a movie or take a walk. First rate appliances in the kitchen which are easy to use if you want to cook for yourself. Yet it still has that old Highlands charm that you would expect of a real Highlands cottage with heart of pine paneled walls. Friendly checkin and out. Close to town. Lovely!
