Beautiful rural setting cottage

House was very clean and had everything we needed for a wonderful stay! Will definitely be back. We love the Galax area and the people are so kind.

Beautiful surroundings - pond/field. Great big bed. Quick ride to Galax and Blue Ridge Parkway.

The information and photos are misleading. Finding the place was difficult; then once there access was via a steep gravel driveway that was unsafe to go down and would have been nearly impossible to climb up. As a result, I turned around and found other safer accommodations.

This property is a 5 star rental.... clean, comfortable - every comfort thought of - I can only say that anybody passing througfh or nearby Galax looking for a rental - you wont be disppointed in this one!!

We loved this lovely cottage/home near the Blue Ridge Parkway. I was a little skeptical about all 10s involving the reviews posted, but this place is truly excellent if you like to get away from it all. Kathy is a wonderful host and of all the places we have been, this place by far has been the best!

The pond was down the hill - full of Bass fish we caught 10-15 within an hour of casting - comfortable bed - private - beautiful scenery - deer almost at the front door - easy TV controls- 8 minutes from town- restaurants etc... we plan on coming back again next year and staying longer - we loved it, Great Anniversary trip !!! Thank you to the owners for a perfect weekend

Second time staying at the property. Not a fan of Keurig for morning coffee. Always brew our morning coffee. Would have liked shampoo available. Other than these two things, it was great!

What an amazing place. I have stayed at over 30 VRBO properties and this one is right at the top. Friendly hostess, wonderful amenities, clean, bright and airy. There are no negatives, this place is wonderful.

Although this property is a few minutes off the beaten path, it’s well worth the time. The drive is scenic with lots of hills and curves. The property is exceptionally clean and well maintained. The owners are very courteous and always willing to answer questions. And to make the whole thing better, we had a chicken greet us upon our arrival. I’d give the place seven or eight stars if that were possible. We’ll be back.

This was an awesome property. Very clean. Our dog really enjoyed the large yard.

The home was just the right size and very homey. It was convenient to get to shopping and going to the areas we wanted to check out, like Blue Ridge Parkway and the Skyline and also checked out the Apple House. Just some day trips. We also went to Mount Airy Mayberry, which was fun.

Cathy & Craig are always so welcoming and just great host . We stayed at their place several times and will keep coming back . The home is warm and charming and pet friendly, and our fur babies just love the open space in the rear yard .. thank you for allowing us to use your home . Edward & Susan

Beautiful setting. Close to town with.good access to the Blue Ridge Parkway and the New River Trail. Everything we needed for a weekend away.

The location was close to town. The house was clean. We enjoyed ourselves.

My wife and I travel from Florida to NY several times a year . And we just love this place . It’s spacious.very clean and the bed is soooo comfortable. You can hear the cows and watch the ducks in the pond This is our regular stop when it’s available. Thank you for another wonderfull stay.

Everything about my stay was top notch. The property was the cleanest I ever had the pleasure of visiting. The owner got back to me immediately during the initial contact and made the coordination as simple as possible. I will definitely stay again when I am in the area.

We have stayed with Kathy several times and her homes never disappoint. They are clean and welcoming in a beautiful rural setting. The fact that they are the closest rentals to our son and DIL is the icing on the cake. Kathy is excellent at communication and I know we will stay at Shepherd's Rest again.

Stayed one night on a long drive from Toronto to Florida. Exactly what i was looking for - a comfortable, clean place. It's very charming, the hosts are great, and it was better than the pictures. Super quiet, and very comfortable bed. Would definitely stay here sgain.

My wife and I just love this place , we have stayed here several times already and will continue to come back between our trips to New York and Florida . The house is always clean and comfortable the host are the best . We got hit with a snow storm on our stay and they called us and told us we were welcome to stay the extra night for free so we didn’t have to travel in the snow . Thank you so much . Was not our 1st trip to this property. Once you go you’ll want to go back. Peaceful, relaxing around pond, deer watching, best of everything you need in kitchen. No street lights, no noise. We’ll go back!!!

We needed an easy overnight stay on a trip to visit family with our dog. Check in and out was very simple. The cottage was lovely and had everything we needed. Getting into town and to the highway was pretty easy. Had a great stay.

This is my ideal-type of location: only a mile (via a paved road) from a highway and just a few miles away from Galax. This is a very rural neighborhood setting with a few houses up and down the road, which also sees very little traffic. All this results is a lot of peace and quiet; nighttime especially so. The house is new construction, clean, well-kept and had everything I needed. WiFi was excellent: fast and no interruptions. The outdoor area is huge, and you can take your dog for a little extended walk around the on-site pond. Kathy and Craig are courteous and happy to assist or chat via VRBO messaging. If you like staying in a quiet country setting with clean and comfortable lodging, this is it.

The bed was very comfortable and the sheets and pillows were luxurious. It was a pleasant overnight stay! It's conveniently located near Rex Theater where we enjoyed the Bluegrass concert last evening. We would happily stay here again for a quiet getaway

There was a reservation glitch & we were moved to a similar location, which turned out alright. The owner was on site and very apologetic, even offering us an extra night (which we were unable to stay for). It's a very nice setting and our stay was comfortable. We would consider staying there again & maybe bringing another couple along to stay in the sister space.

Great property for chilling. Quiet, peaceful…easy to find and not too far from grocery, restaurants, and adventure. Very clean and comfortable. We would have loved to stay longer but our vacation itinerary didn’t allow. Hope to return in the future.

We love staying in this cottage. It’s perfect for a couple to enjoy a weekend or even a lengthy visit. The house is furnished well and is decorated perfectly. The rooms are large and the porch is a perfect for relaxing and enjoying the country view. The location is convenient to all attractions in the area.

This property is perfect for a relaxing stay. The cabin is spotless, quiet, easy to find, and comfortable. It feels like you are miles away from everything but, in reality, it is only a short drive to restaurants and area attractions. I hope to return and stay longer.
