Penobscot, Maine
The cottage is on a quiet private spot overlooking Penobscot Bay. Western views of Penobscot Bay for beautiful sunsets over the water. 900 feet of shore frontage, quiet setting with private deck. A lighthouse across the Bay continues to direct some large vessels to Bucksport. In the fog, you may hear the fog horn sound every 7 seconds. The beach is a great spot for walking, collecting beach glass, and driftwood. Our regulars like to build forts on the beach with the many shapes and sizes of driftwood that wash up. There are also a couple of lakes in the area if you would like to visit some fresh water.
We are equal distance to Belfast, Bangor and Ellsworth. Short drive to many coastal Maine towns; 12 min to Blue Hill, 7 min to Castine, 45 min to Acadia National Park, and 60 min to Camden/Rockport.
I do my major grocery shopping in Bucksport, a comfortable 10 mile country drive.
One bedroom on the ground floor has a double bed, One upstairs bedroom has a double bed and the other 2 twins.
Maine has a rich literary history - and if you are bringing your kids, grab a copy of some Robert McCloskey favorites; One Morning In Maine, Burt Dow Deep Water Man, Time of Wonder. We can give you directions to Condon's Garage so you can eat ice cream by the harbor and read these iconic books to your kids. Burt Dow's headstone is only a short drive from there, and the locals regularly adorn it with a painted buoy. We like to think Giggling Gull visits from time to time.
Everything was perfect, management was great. Gorgeous, clean, only thing is could use a shower hose. But best place I’ve stayed in maine to date.
We enjoyed our stay. Nice and quiet. Peaceful and private. Beautiful shoreline.. we walked a mile in both directions! Vanessa is very sweet and available.
If you want a relaxing vacation this is it. Very quiet and peaceful.Walked along the private beach and found lots of sea glass.Nice view!
Quiet, cozy and equipped with everything we needed for a sister getaway.
We were very pleased with the property. We so enjoyed the breath-taking views of Penobscot bay from the large cottage windows and the beautiful walks we were able to take along the water. The cabin is cozy and well equipped.
What an absolutely beautiful, serene, and peaceful property. Couldn’t have asked for a more perfect rental for vacation with my husband and our two dogs. The cottage itself is cute, comfy, and was well equipped with everything we needed and more! The host even had a collection of books, games, and puzzles which was a nice surprise since the weather wasn’t perfect during our trip. The view from the cottage is incredible, and even on the foggy, rainy days it was lovely to curl up on the couch with a mystery novel and listen to the foghorn roll across the bay. The beach itself is just a few quick steps down from the cottage, and we didn’t run into another soul on the beach our whole time there. Lots of sea glass and beautiful drift wood wash up here, so every walk on the beach was like a treasure hunt! Location was perfect and central to lots of parks and things to do. Acadia and Bar Harbor are under an hour straight up route 1, nice easy drive for a day trip. Fort Point State Park is also a quick drive away. The town of Bucksport has plenty of options for takeout and grocery shopping. Overall we had an absolutely lovely stay and I would highly, highly recommend this property to other travelers!
We loved this property. Just what we were looking for. Quiet on the water with great sunsets. If your looking for a stay at the Hilton this is not the place for you. This is a really clean 3 bedroom cabin in Maine, with everything we needed., The seaglass and tons of driftwood were another perk for us. Thank you. Ben Rogers
Nice location and very nice and accommidating hosts with a very scenic view on the back deck. The amenities are a bit dated and the beds are small (biggest bed is a full size), but if this doesn't phase you (admittedly it did for me since I'm a techie), the place is perfect!
The cottage was exactly as described. On property mgr. was a wonderful host. Immaculately clean, all appliances worked fine. Will definitely return and recommend it completely. As a modest Maine cottage with a spectacular deck and view, it is superb. Excellent value.
We loved every minute of our stay in Vanessa's cottage. It was very welcoming and really had everything we needed to make ourselves at home. Our two dogs were more than happy to explore the rocky shore and we loved sitting out on the deck for sunset.
We had a very nice time although too short a stay. The views from the deck and beach are beautiful! The cabin is comfortable and Matt and Venessa are very helpful. Would stay again :)
Wonderful place to stay, especially with small children. Loved the place and the beach was beautiful. Very warm, gracious and helpful hosts who were amazing. Would definitely stay again.
This is out third year here and we’ve already booked for next year. Great place, great location for our growing family. Thank you Venessa and Matt
My granddaughter and I wanted to get away to a quiet place for some needed R&R. This place fit the bill. It has a lovely view of the water and is far enough away from everything to be quiet and secluded but close enough for day trips to the sights and activities Maine offers. The house was simple but comfortable.
We really enjoyed our stay. The location is ideal between Camden and Bar Harbor ( 1 hr drive to each town) but ~ 10 min away from historic Castine. and Bucksport. Gorgeous views of the sea/river and beautiful sunsets. The cottage is just as advertised. Clean, well equipped, very simple. Vanessa was a gracious host. Overall, a very serene place to go and relax. We plan to rent again maybe in the Fall.
My family of six (2 adults, 4 kids age 5–16) thoroughly enjoyed our week-long stay at this lovely small cottage. As long as you do not come expecting modern amenities/furnishings or to have any privacy from your other guests, this is a perfect, off-the-beaten-path rental. It is a drive to hot spots like Bar Harbor & Deer Isle, but most of the roads are scenic with plenty of lobster shacks along the way. My younger children loved combing the shoreline for beach glass & there is plenty to be found. By the end of the week we were so relaxed, we didn’t want to leave. Thanks to a terrific, friendly host who was on-hand in case we needed anything.
This is not our first stay at this property and it was just as we remembered. Clean and comfortable, and Vanessa was a gracious host as always
