Penobscot, Maine
Take a quick jaunt on a wooded path into a meadow that overlooks the Bagaduce South Bay. Enjoy the warmth of the rocks as you lounge by the water and listen to the wind as Mother Nature intended. Listen to the seals play and watch them as they bask in the sun at low tide (did you know the seals snort ) Explore the tide pools, where muscles, lobster, starfish and crabs like to lounge. Rock in the hammock and let the day pass by with a good book and feel the ocean breeze. Fire orange sunsets, with camp fires, lobster bakes, and a toasted marshmallows to follow, is the perfect way to end a summer day at this adventurous cottage. Down by the shore is the perfect spot to launch a kayak- paddle out and explore the islands and the shore line of the Bagaduce River. Take a trip upstream to the reversing falls and eat at the Bagaduce Lunch. Paddle to the historic water front of Castine.
Our cabin was built in 2013 for comfort and family relaxation. We have named it “The Captain's Cottage” in honor of our son whom attended the Maine Maritime Academy. The cottage has a quaint New England feel. Come escape the noise and bustle of the city and feel time slow down on the shore. Enjoy every second of the beautiful landscape and the comfort of this home.
Historic Castine only 5.7 miles away! Blue Hill 11.6 miles or visit Acadia National Park which is under one hour away.
The cottage is very easy and comfortable to live in, the deck is a lovely place to sit and have a meal. It is not very big, perfect for two of us and our small dog. The property offers a large private space with a lovely walk down to the water. Deer, porcupine (twice), hummingbirds around the house and seals, cormorants and an eagle in the river, paradise. Easy drive to Castine for shopping. You cannot see water from the cottage, but we found that being surrounded by trees was very relaxing. The large lawn was great. Another great summer in Maine.
Great place to view nature and relax! Near good hikes and lots of places to put in our canoe/ paddle board.
The property this rental is located on is beautiful with a lovely walk through the woods down to the water. It did rain a lot while we were here, so we were not able to get outside as much as we would have preferred. I would say the house and property appear better in person than in the listing’s pictures. The check-in, communication process was great.
We found this cottage to be clean, cozy and quiet just as we hoped. The hostess reminded us to bring our own towels and bedding which was an important reminder as I didn’t notice that information on the listing. Unfortunately, we didn’t bring our own dish towels and dishrags so we wished that the cottage could include those. Overall, a lovely, relaxing place to stay.
Just what we needed, nothing fancy but comfy and cheerful.. nice walk down to waterfront where the puffins and seals hang out on a sandbar.. pretty cool.
Simple, comfortable cabin with nice walk down wide mowed fern and tree lined path to amazing view overlooking rocky beach. Great location and wildlife viewing.
PROs: Great view of the seals sunbathing on the rocks exposed at low tide. The path to the water was a pleasant 5-10 minute walk through shaded woods. Well equipped kitchen with gas stove and new fridge. Comfortable futon. The property owner was very responsive. CONs: No direct view of the water from the house. No A/C if you’re staying mid-summer, though there are several fans and numerous windows for ventilation. The screened doors had holes in the screens, so we left them shut to keep the summer bugs out. The internet connection is actually around 10 mbps based on multiple speed tests (as of my reservation the posting indicated 100+ mbps). This wouldn’t have been an issue if it were reliable. The connection cut out completely multiple times daily. Wouldn’t recommend for anyone intending to work remotely. Overall we enjoyed our time at the house but I may have overpaid for our stay considering some of the missing amenities that I had expected. It appears that the price I paid is about $30 more than the currently listed price.
We came to Maine to visit a friend & do some sightseeing. The pictures online are 100% accurate. It’s extremely secluded and it has an amazing view of the water and the rocks/island that seals would come out to sun on everyday. - It is s bit of a hike to the water, it took me about 6 minutes to walk it, but there’s a picnic table and a fire pit and an amazing g view when you get there. The host was very responsive and quick with communication.
Internet a little slow. No dishwasher. Beds comfortable. No reading lamp in one bedroom. Well ventilated. Open floor plan. Lots of Windows. Enjoyed watching seals on the river.
