Mountain View, Hawaii
Lush 10 acre farm located just 15 minutes from the entrance to Volcano National Park and less than 20 miles from Hilo Town. A scenic drive south takes you to visit the turtles at Punaluu Black Sand Beach and South Point. Enjoy waking up to the sound of frogs, birds, and horses nearby. Pick bananas, Brazilian grapes, avocados and other fresh items from the estate. Enjoy peace and privacy at the top of a bamboo lined street, or head to Hilo for fine dining and the freshest fish available anywhere. The property is a historic site originally built in the mid 1800's and completely updated in the last 10 years. You'll have full access to the upstairs main property as well as laundry on the ground floor. The upstairs features 3 bedrooms, with a spacious master with king size bed and walk in closet, and two additional bedrooms, one with a queen bed and one with a full. Our bathrooms feature a tile showers, and our kitchen is fully stocked for any cooking you wish to do. A perfect place to unwind and recharge.
This home is lovely, secluded, and very quiet. It is also super close to Volcanoes National Park. However, if you, like me, hope to get online and do some work, this is not the place. We logged into the wireless network shortly after arriving, but we never had any internet connectivity. I emailed the property owner to ask about internet, and she…just…never responded…during the three days we spent there. No response at all.
Everything was as described and in good working order
Many fun animal visitors! Frogs, sheep, chickens. super close to Volcano. Very secluded property.
Beautiful house in a quiet rural area. Very near Volcano Park.
We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful home. The grounds are well kept and the area is very peaceful. We used the grill a lot and were appreciative of all the basics the owners provided. We used this place to drive to various sights, we took a tour that departed from Hilo and drove up the Mauna Kea. Black Sand beaches with the lovely green sea turtles are nearby as is the Volcanic Park. Hilo and its Tsunami museum and the Imiloa Astronomy Center are both a must see. Too much to do. A supermarket is also closeby. Overall we had a wonderful stay and we can highly recommend this home.
We were planning to camp at Volcano National Park but unfortunately it is closed at this time. We are so glad we found this beautiful home instead! The owners are great communicators and very welcoming. The home is beautiful, private, surrounded by native plants, clean and comfortable. It’s also convenient to the towns of Hilo and Volcano. We would love to come again. Thank you May and Mike for your hospitality!
We had a wonderful time here would highly recommend. Kathy, Chuck and May were all awesome and we appreciate their kindness. Great location for spectacular site seeing for the entire Big Island of Hawaii. Much respect for Pele, her mother earth with ever changing landscape and planet would love to visit again sometime soon. Thanks and kind regards, Kathleen, Shannon and Billy from NY/CTarea
Our family of four really enjoyed our stay at the Bamboo Retreat. Not only was the property beautiful, quiet and secluded, the home itself was spacious, comfortable, updated and exceptionally well maintained. The beds themselves were very comfortable too. This is clearly a house that the owners use themselves, as it was well stocked with kitchen tools and supplies. To our pleasant surprise, we were even given some food and coffee, which was very helpful since we arrived late after our flight from the mainland. The lemon tree was in full production — we made great lemonade. Although this house is a couple miles off the main road, its location was great for exploring Volcano National Park, Hilo and the Puna region. So many fun things to see and do: lava hikes, snorkeling tidal pools, cave exploration, botanical gardens, Uncle Roberts farmers market (Wednesday night). Certainly a great place to stay on the East side of the island.
We enjoyed our stay tremendously at May and Mike's house. This was a lovely home-base to explore the Big Island, celebrate New Year's Eve and my parent's 50th wedding anniversary! The charming house is newly remodeled with fully functioning kitchen. A lot of pots and pans looked (or were) brand new. We were also able to take advantage of the snorkeling gears the hosts made available since my younger daughter wanted to try snorkeling for the first time! The hosts were very accommodating and super responsive even during the busy holiday season. We will always remember our trip and this house fondly!
