Welcome to The Skolfield Inn!

Room 4 is located at the back of the inn, offering a quiet retreat after all your Portland excursions. A brand new bathroom addition with a custom marble tiled shower rounds out this room. During the warm weather months, enjoy relaxing outside in the gardens and on colder days, cozy up in the communal sitting room downstairs.
The space
Built in 1895, this John Calvin Stevens home still has many original features unique to the famous architect. Commissioned by John T. Skolfield, the single family home was converted to an inn and opened for business in 2019.

We are located in the West End, just over a mile southwest of the Old Port in the historic neighborhood known for its elaborate Victorian-era architecture. Our neighborhood offers you the tranquility of the Western Promenade, an 18-acre park offering scenic views and walking paths, in tandem with a host of popular restaurants and cafes, all within easy walking distance. The neighboring Arts District and Old Port offer plenty to explore on foot, including museums, art galleries, theaters, restaurants, shops, and bars.

With just four guest rooms, our inn offers a peaceful stay, satisfying social guests or those seeking solace. Each private room is furnished with a queen sized bed, white noise machine, and a reading chair (or couch depending on the room).

A Smart TV is provided should guests have their own streaming services. *no cable or streaming service is provided by the host*

Off street parking is available, cannot support larger SUVs/trucks, and being competent in reverse is a plus! For those with large vehicles, street parking is readily available in front of the inn from 4pm-10am for overnight guests (outside these hours are hourly restrictions). A half mile away is residential street parking which is free and has no hourly restrictions for those staying longer than a night.
Other things to note
***WINTER PARKING: If we should have a snow storm, the day after the storm, we are required to remove all cars from the parking area so it can be properly cleaned out. From 9am through 3pm cars must be moved. Closest street parking with no time restrictions is about a half mile away so its a good time to explore the sites downtown or in our neighboring cities!

Gorgeous and immaculately clean rooms put me at ease and comfortable immediately. Beautiful and bright bathroom, and a generally quiet stay even with other guests in other rooms. It was so welcoming and in a perfect area for a peaceful getaway, while still being in Portland proper. We would absolutely stay here again!

Nice little place that suited our needs for. Quick trip. Place was quiet and clean. Near the hospital which may bother some folks due to the sirens and such. Not far from Old Port shopping and restaurants.

I had such a great experience at the Skolfield Inn in Portland! From the moment I arrived, everything felt welcoming and thoughtfully put together. The backyard area was another highlight. Nestled among a few tall trees, it felt like a little hidden retreat in the city. The glider chairs back there made it the perfect spot to sip coffee, unwind, and soak in the Maine air.All in all, the Skolfield Inn blends charm, comfort, and a touch of nature right in the heart of Portland. I’d absolutely stay here again!

We had nice stay for just one night at the Skofield Inn. The room was very comfortable with a small fridge. It was a ways from the downtown, but we walked to a nice restaurant in 15 minutes, more like 25 minutes to the heart of town. Lots of stairs up to the room, which was fine but could be tough with large luggage.

Keyless entry made check in easy, as did parking on site. Although close to hospital there was no noise at night. The room (4) was immaculate, bright and comfortable. Lovely decor without being fussy. Mimi fridge in room. Shared kitchenette/parlor downstairs. We brought our own breakfast food and the inn supplied coffee/tea. Beautiful garden out back! Would definitely stay here again!

This was a great little room, with a kitchen downstairs. The ambulance does not use its siren when it goes by this house, so it was quiet and comfortable. A friend of mine was in the hospital, and I needed to extend my stay. The host worked to get me into another VRBO close to the hospital so I didn't have to worry about the extension, amongst everything else that was going on.
