Unlocked house prior to arrival is an unsafe condition. Unlock upon leaving is also unsafe. Staircase to master has no railing and is not wide enough to bring luggage up there.

The pictures of this property, probably taken years ago, do not show the wear and tear it has undergone lately. The following list is to help the owner be aware and make his customers happier with a few changes and purchases. The kitchen especially shows this. Old dishes, pots and pans and disorganized utensils. Dishwasher falls forward when loaded. For future customers, dish towels should be replaced (Only 2 old ones were available), sponge was old and no replacements. The walkways outside had broken flat stones and dangerous to walk in and out. Many door screens were torn. Batteries to a fan and tvs needed replacing. Specific replacement batteries not available so we had to buy them. Stairway to master bedroom had no railing and made going up and down dangerous. Outdoor had broken chairs and cushions and swing chair covered in bird poop. The family enjoyed being together especially the large dining room table and the outdoor hot tub.Host was responsive to our needs but our overall sense was this property is not well taken care of especially considering the large fee.

My husband and I hosted my brother and sister-in-law and their three teens over the Fourth of July holiday week. Our itinerary included college tours, a Red Sox game, fireworks, and local history. The Rustic Farmhouse in Essex was absolutely perfect for our group of seven. Here's why:1.) There was plenty of room for everyone - everyone had their own bedroom/bathroom2.) The property included plenty of space for softball, football, cornhole, and even frog catching (and releasing), and counting swallows nests3.) The house had everything - a washer/dryer, good internet, a closet full of boardgames, overstuffed furniture, and a great central air system4.) The kitchen and butler's pantry were well stocked and having two refrigerators was a god-send with teenagersWe had such an amazing week together - we can't recommend the farmhouse, its location, and its host enough! Thank you for the time of our lives!!

Rustic, rambly house perfect for spreading out or coming together! We didn’t get to spend as much time as we would like just sitting on the porch, but we did get to wander around, take our morning jogs, and late night cozy catch ups. Communication with the host/manager was perfect and prompt. Place was quite clean and picked up. It does have a pantry/service area as well as the large kitchen, so I could certainly see a good group event would be fun there!

I can't praise this property enough, inside and outside are spacious & beautiful!! We hosted my son's wedding rehearsal dinner here. The gardens, barn & pond made for great pictures. I also had a family gathering after the wedding. All enjoyed a tour of the home & commented on its size & décor & history. The home rambles on with enough room for big gatherings or alone time. It is well stocked, has great water pressure & very comfortable. The sun light filters through the windows more gloriously than the picture shows. Several times my grandsons were thrilled to see & hear horses clip-clop down the road! Playing hide & seek was almost dangerous with so many places to hide. Another favorite was the downstairs bathroom door. If you didn't close it completely, but let it slowly close on its own...it creaked & groaned as the best ghost sound! Jeremy was most accommodating, friendly & quick to respond. I told he I would probably cry when I had to leave, and I did. You we fall in love with this property!

Beautiful rambling house on lovely property offered plenty of space for extended family gathering. Large open kitchen with huge counter, two refrigerators and pantry made wonderful common area. Whole group snuggled on sofas in living room for movie night. Four adult couples and four young children slept comfortably. Kids loved playing on swingset in big yard. An idyllic weekend stay!

This property is a beautiful and spacious home with plenty of different spaces for people to spend time. The outside spaces are also incredibly pleasant. The bedrooms are spread out, so it afforded privacy and quiet. We used the huge master bedroom for our daughter and her bridesmaids to get ready on the day of her wedding, and was perfect for that. There were a couple of things that were a bit frustrating. Given that this house is in the luxury category of rental properties, I did not expect the following issues which were present: we blew a fuse after using a hair dryer (one provided by the home) for about one minute. We then had to hunt down the fuse box and deal with that as we were trying to get ready for a rehearsal dinner. There were several windows that did not have screens, so the bugs got in. Some of the windows without screens were on the second floor, which would have been worrisome if we had had young children with us. We ran out of toilet paper and were told that in the house instructions, it said that there are 2 rolls provided for each bathroom. For the amount we were paying, I did not expect that we would have to purchase toilet paper. We could not figure out how to use the master bedroom shower and the property manager acknowledged that it wasn't straightforward to use- there should have been instructions. The property manager was very responsive but I have never had to contact a host as often as I did contact him.

I cannot praise this property enough. The pictures alone do not do it justice- this place was a dream!!! We stayed here to celebrate my sister’s bachelorette weekend. We wanted a spacious place to have “low-key” nights in, and spend our daytime adventures in Salem and local wineries. This place exceeded our expectations beyond belief. We absolutely adored the house and the property- we were so sad to leave by the end of our trip. Jeremy (the amazing host) was awesome. He was prompt, responsive and helpful. Everything from check-in to check-out was simple and easy. He made our stay that much better! Do NOT hesitate to book this home. The house is fully stocked with renters in mind. It is clear that the owners want guests to feel at home and enjoy their stay. The accommodations were perfect, the home is full of charm, and the stunning property was an absolute dream. The sunroom was my personal favorite place in the home- I spent most of my mornings and nights sitting out there, enjoying the view and the cozy seating. From the inside out, this place is perfect. I cannot emphasize enough that this rental property is amazing and deserves a GLOWING review. I hope to find myself back in the area just to stay here again. Do not hesitate to book- you will fall in love with this home!

This house was amazing! We had plenty of room for eight adults to cook together in the spacious kitchen and spread out to relax in the great room, the sitting room, the screened-in porch, and the deck. The location was perfect to get to all our family events, and Jeremy could not have been more responsive!

The property felt rustic and historical and the location was easy enough to navigate into town for items and get back quickly. It felt like a retreat home. The outdoors was like a wild garden, colorful and fragrant.

We had a really nice multi-generational weekend at the house. It is as advertised - a beautiful old farmhouse that has been updated to include a large, well-stocked kitchen, nice bathrooms (one for each bedroom, which was awesome), and absolutely gorgeous grounds for roaming. Every room is attractive and interesting. The bones of the house are from the late 1600s, so there are many cool exposed beams and large fireplaces. It's been furnished in a mix of modern and antique-looking pieces that are comfortable (so many great overstuffed couches) and attractively designed. There is lots of space to spread out, and a fabulous butler's pantry with a second refrigerator and great coffee setup. Everyone in our party from age 2-81 was charmed by the house and thought it was very comfortable. It's also in a beautiful farm-y neighborhood for walking, relaxing on the deck, and enjoying the hummingbirds at the feeder. We found it very easy to get to Crane's Beach (reserve your parking spot ahead of time!) and Essex in just a few minutes. The host recommended Down River Ice Cream, and we second the recommendation! (but if you go at dusk, bring your bug spray as it is right on a marsh). Overall a great experience.
