Stayed Nov 12, 2021I stayed in this beautiful house in Diever with some friends over the weekend. We received a warm welcome from the owner that kindly gave us a tour of the house while explaining the many visiting options that the areas was offering. The house had literally everything we needed. The kitchen was perfectly equipped, the house was well heated, the living room was great for chilling on that gigantic couch and the rooms were nice and comfortable. Everything went absolutely well. I would highly suggest this location for a relaxing stay in a quiet village like Diever.

Stayed Dec 31, 1969The accommodations at Under the oaks were perfect for our family of 5. (though the house can fit a much larger group) David was most helpful in every way, from helping us with the bicycle rentals (he made sure we reserved them way in advance) to taking us on a small tour of the village and suggesting interesting places to visit in the area. David and his family live in half the house and the other half is the rental. We had a separate entrance, so it felt completely private. The village of Diever is great; the grocery store was a 45 second walk from the house, and lots of little stores and small restaurants within a 5 minute walk. We rented bicycles, which turned out to be the highlight of our trip! There are endless bicycle routes throughout the countryside, most of them are not next to the road like we are used to, but far away from the roads, cutting through the landscape of farmland. So very serene! Everywhere flat as a pancake, super easy bicycling. Diever is very close to several national parks and there are beautiful places all around. Do not hesitate renting from David and spending your vacation in Diever!

Stayed Dec 31, 1969This is our 10th year staying 'Under the Oaks' and each year we have had a great welcome from hosts David and Monique...nothing is ever too much trouble and the house is always maintained to the highest standard - very clean and well equipped. We are a large family group with ages that have ranged from babies to pensioners and we are still discovering things to do that we can all enjoy together.Diever is a lively small town (in a national park) with all the bars, restaurants and shops you need. There is even a windmill! There is a Coop supermarket just along from the house and a bike rental shop - great for exploring the area on the fabulous cycle routes all around the area. (David can organise cycle hire for you). This year we discovered the 'Blue lake' ...a fresh water lake with sandy shores hidden in the forest...amazing to swim in on a warm day... just 10 minutes drive away along the lovely canal-hugging road. We recommend Plopsa and Slagharen theme parks for the young at heart!

Stayed Dec 31, 1969Traveling from the U.S., our stay at Under the Oaks was a refreshing change of pace for a 3 day portion of our trip. The small town had everything we needed for a nice time away. We enjoyed the village shops and restaurants and just walking around. There was so much more to do in the area than we had time for. We used this central and convenient location as home base to travel around the area and north. Amsterdam was a reasonable distance and good roads. We were very pleased with the hospitality and kindness shown to us--from a personal tour of the house and village to a wonderful and generous welcome gift. Plenty of space and well maintained. We would definitely stay here again.

Stayed Dec 31, 1969Under The Oaks is in an excellent location to discover a treasure of small villages set within this natural, and unique, area of The Netherlands – the province of Drenthe. David’s fantastic welcome set the tone for our to-be-remembered stay with our family of nine: friendly and open communication, very knowledgeable of the area, walking us through our home-away-from-home, always available to answer any questions, yet respecting our privacy. In other words: Hospitality with a capital H! The kitchen is the heart of the home. Here it is true! We opened the lovely bottle of wine, part of the welcome gift. “Proost!”, my sister-in-law and I said as our glasses touched. More than you can ask for, and everything you need, is already in place in this well-stocked kitchen. The Coop grocery store is close by and in a short time our groceries were put away. The smaller table is ideal for breakfast – since members of our group drift into the kitchen at different times for, here, you want to sleep in because the beds are so comfortable. The large table is perfect for all of us to gather around during dinner time, and to stay awhile, unhurried, stretching out the mealtime into the early hours of the evening. Diever is a walking town. Step on the bike-and-foot path next to the farmhouse and you walk past the neighbour’s fields, where a black Frisian horse feeds on the lush grass. This path will lead you to a tranquil park, surrounded by homes. You will discover shops to explore, see the church with its steeple at the centre of town, and continue walking along quiet roads. We stopped and picked apples out of a wheel barrow, a present from an unknown giver, which was made into applesauce to accompany our meal. You will discover another park which is home to friendly ducks, turn the corner, pass a café, walk for a few minutes more, and: You are home. Dora S.

Stayed Dec 31, 1969We had never been to this part of the Netherlands before and were very impressed at this hidden gem of an area and a property. 2 families stayed for 1 week. The house is in the centre of a lovely village surrounded by National parks and forests. The village has everything a holidaymaker needs (Supermarket, Bike Hire, cafes, restaurants, weekly market) and the accommodation is well equipped. The owner lives in the house behind and is on hand to assist with advice, suggestions of things to do and bookings. When we arrived there was a very good welcome pack left including wine, beer as well as coffee, tea, bread, butter and cheese. Parking is easy and off road. Being Holland it is very flat and great bike riding country and we were pleased to see that there were tarmac bike pathways through the forest making it safe for children to cycle away from cars. For day trips you are about an hour away from the coast or from the border with Germany. However, there is a wealth of information at 'Under the Oaks' with ideas of things to do more locally.

Stayed Dec 31, 1969David could not have been more helpful. Absolutely fantastic location for cycling, walking, and boating at Giethorn. The house was well equipped and clean. The master bedroom is on the ground floor. Close to a fabulous supermarket, gift shops and restaurants. Everyone cycles in Holland so the pace of life is very relaxed. Would love to live there as everything feels safe and the people are friendly. At the back of the house there are horses an allotment and countryside. Being in Diever has inspired us to dust down our bikes and cycle. Directions from the airport are excellent and very straight forward. David also has a great knowledge of the area and it's history.

Stayed Dec 31, 1969I have now stayed 3 times with large groups at beautiful “Under the Oaks” farmhouse and can highly recommend it. The location and facilities are just great, very convenient and close to all attractions and the best part that is in the heart of the beautiful town of Diever. Do not hesitate and book it!

Stayed Dec 31, 1969This was a great retreat from urban stress in a lovely village setting with lots to explore on foot or by bike or car. The central location made for easy in-town living with pedestrian access to everything we needed - groceries, restaurants, bike rental, bakery, ice cream, post office - all within a short walk. The house had plenty of room, a clean, well equipped kitchen, and comfortable beds. David and Monique were great hosts with lots of suggestions for local activities and also helped to arrange our bike rental. We would certainly recommend Under the Oaks to friends.
