Stayed Mar 27, 2026It was a very relaxing weekend, being close to Shenandoah National Park allowed for some great hiking. I also enjoyed getting out on the river with my kayak and getting some fishing in. All in all, it was a great getaway from work and the stress of life.

Stayed Oct 24, 2025Great location. Great views. Very clean. All the restaurant referrals were good. We didn’t realize the second bedroom had its own entrance but we just used the sleeper couch on the main level since there were just two of us. Would stay here again.

Stayed Aug 26, 2025River Nest is an excellent and very clean cottage for an off the grid vacation with nature. With no Internet or cable/satellite TV distractions, (many DVDs are provided) vacationers can enjoy the beautiful and very primate grounds including the well stocked (logs and chairs) fire pit overlooking the river. Food and necessities can be easily acquired in nearby Luray (20 min drive). The divided floor plan ensures privacy for two couples or parents with older children. A public access roadway separates the large main yard from the area directly next to the river. The owner suggests using caution when crossing the road to get to the river. The private area near the river is grassy and the riverfront has been cleared of brush which makes viewing the river (bring a folding chair) an enjoyable experience. It also provides for easy entry into the water for tubing or fishing.

Stayed Jul 15, 2025We enjoyed the cozy cabin for our family of 5! Well stocked, clean. Owner was easy to get ahold of and helpful. The accommodation allowed a bit of separation from our kids (nice on a long road trip). There was one bedroom upstairs and one in a completely separate space downstairs. Would also be great for two families as both sections had a pullout sofa bed and their own full bathroom. About 1 hour drive from hikes in the central section of the national park.

Stayed Jul 2, 2025Our daughter's softball team had the opportunity to play in the Shenandoah State Championship Tournament and, given our busy schedule over the summer, we decided to also make this the trip a mini family vacation as well. So when we stumbled onto the River's Nest Cottage, we knew it would be the perfect place for such an occasion. The gorgeous property was within a ten minute drive of the ball fields and was nestled right on the Shenandoah River allowing for relaxing mornings on the deck enjoying a cup of coffee and a book with the beautiful river just ahead and birds chipping in the surrounding woods. Our evenings were filled with fishing, catching fireflies, and making s'mores by the fire pit. The wonderful and gracious host had wood for the fire pit previously cut and stacked on site for our use and surprised us with s'more makings (complete with s'more sticks) on the kitchen table. Thank you Marc! Due to recent rain in the area prior to arrival, the river had risen and was flowing a bit too strong for us to use the on site kayaks or inner tubes unfortunately, but they were on site and ready for our use. We found the property to be clean, well maintained, and to have everything we needed during our five day stay. Communication with the host was quick and easy as well as warm, welcoming, and professional. This property was perfect for our family's stay. I would absolutely love to return one day and would highly recommend River's Nest to others.

Stayed Oct 10, 2024I stayed here with my husband and sister during the fall. It was gorgeous to watch leaves change around the property and enjoy immersion in bird song in the morning. The property is beautiful, with a fire pit that is perfectly placed for evening gatherings. Between river access, fire pits, and generous outdoor seating it’s a nature lovers paradise! We were delighted to discover a smote kit offered by the host and great communication throughout our experience. Our only complaint is there are train tracks on the mountain above the property. This generally was a source of novelty, but bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper.

Stayed Oct 1, 2024Shenandoah River FLOODED . . got there after it receded some . . went around one ROAD CLOSED SIGN & 6'' in one spot & then enjoyed the heck out of our trip . . the coolest part was hearing the ''rumbling'' of a freight train on one side & the ''roaring'' of a river on the other. Everything was clean & neat & well stocked . . enjoyed the geese, hummers, & one neighborly deer . . groceries & restaurants weren't far . . terrific week . . thank you Marc . .

Stayed Aug 16, 2024Inviting and clean property, overlooking a tranquil area of Shenandoah River. Perfect for a girl’s weekend getaway with privacy, relaxation, and enjoyment of nature. Appreciate the complementary river tubes, that 1-mile float was lovely and just the right amount of time taking us 1-hour. I’m sure this place is just as delightful with the fall colors change.
