Bass Harbor, Maine
The Gordius Family welcomes you to spend your family vacation with them in the quaint fishing village of Bass Harbor, on the quiet side of Mount Desert Island. We are located on Rt 102A, just minutes to the historical Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse, Ships Harbor, Wonderland and Seawall, surrounded by the windswept Acadia National Park.
Enjoy our rugged mountains and woodland trails, deep thick forests and beautiful plush gardens.
Listen, enjoy and play in the pounding surf of the great Atlantic Ocean as it crashes against our islands rocky shorelines. Acadia National Park has lots to offer the hiker, naturalist, birdwatcher, artist, and nature lovers of all kinds.
Wake up to the scent of salt water and the sound of fishing boats heading out for the days catch of lobsters and crabs. Within walking distance of restaurants, Swan's Island Ferry, and a working waterfront wharf.
All of these breathtaking activities are yours, with this clean, cozy and modern family guest cottage.
This place was very clean, bright, roomy (for 3) and relaxing. The host responds quickly to messages and check in is simple. We appreciated the simplicity of the check out process as well. The location is on the quiet side of the island with quick access to the the Bass Harbor light, Wonderland, and Ship Harbor trails as well as Seawall.
Property was clean and well-stocked. Mary was responsive. When the power went out on the island, she even came to the property to check in with us. House is less than 10 minutes from Southwest Harbor, which has a cute little downtown and awesome restaurant (Drydock Cafe). We would definitely return.
We love this little cottage. Mary is a wonderful host and our week stay here was great. Highly recommend this cottage for a vacation on MDI (quiet side).
The house was just as described. Very clean, organized, and comfortable. Mary was very communicative and easy to work with. House was a great location, convenient to Acadia, towns, and restaurants. Wish we could have stayed longer. I would definitely recommend staying here and would come back again.
This home was perfect for my family of three and there was room for more. It was situated very close to Bass Harbor so we walked down a block every night to watch the boats come in and saw spectacular sunsets from there. The house is very clean and well-outfitted with everything we needed. Definitely will rent again when we come back to Acadia.
I can’t say enough wonderful things about our stay at this cottage and our interaction with our host, Mary. We loved being on the “quiet side” of Mount Desert, and still were able to enjoy beautiful hikes that were 5-10 minutes away. Mary was willing to bring us anything we needed during our stay—gas for the grill, toys and a wagon for our children. The cottage felt cleaner than most hotels I’ve stayed in. Would highly recommend this location to anyone looking for an Acadia vacation.
This property was one of the best VRBO's I've stayed at! The home was CLEAN, with extremely comfortable mattresses, cotton sheets, comfortable pillows and plenty of towels. Great water pressure in the shower with no skimping on the hot water. Property was spacious, especially the kitchen (very well stocked) with so much counter space if you decide to cook, which we didn't since there were many great restaurants for eating in or take-out within a 10 minute drive of the home. An excellent location in Bass Harbor to avoid other crowded areas of Mt. Desert Island with 2 Acadia Park trails with stunning views of the Maine coastline within a 5 min. from the home. We took the ferry over to Swan's Island for the day which was so easy as the home is literally a 2 minute ride from the ferry (pack your own food if you do go to Swan's Island). The owner is so lovely and we were fortunate to meet her. Excellent communication and answered texts within minutes with questions I had. Highy recommend and can't wait to go back to this gem again - Staying here was definitely a contributing factor in an excellent vacation to Acadia!
Cute place. Had everything we needed during our trip. Close to Acadia but away from all the Bar Harbor shenanigans. It also put us into a location to hike away from Park Loop Road. We had a couple of great hikes in the Southwest Harbor part of Acadia. Close enough to Bar Harbor for shopping and food when we wanted that. I’d stay again.!
This is truly a very nice property. Exceptionally clean in every way possible you could want. It felt like you were staying at a relative's home with all the things you need including hand soap and kleenex and a clean beds and lots of towels, etc. There was even fresh flowers to great us!! Great location if you want to be out of the hussle & bussel of the tourism sights. I was sooo glad we stayed there and would definitely recommend to others and if I ever get back to the area, this is where I want to stay again! Thank you so much.
The cottage is exactly how photo'd and described online: very clean, bright, sunny, uncluttered yet providing all the kitchen equipment I needed as well as many other necessities. Lovely vase of flowers upon arrival! Mary walked down to say a quick hello first day while I lounged in the yard. Warm and friendly, willing to answer questions and provide any help needed. I hiked most days in Acadia NP and it was a pleasure to return to this haven for relaxation later in the day. Quiet, comfy, safe for solo female traveler but would also be great for a couple or small family seeking getaway from noisy rentals in the non-quiet side. Would love to stay again on a return trip.
Charming little cabin! Mary the host has worked hard to make it an enjoyable stay for her guest, clean, bright and well stocked. My husband and I loved the location because it got you away from the crowds. We were able to watch the sunsets at the harbor and there are two easy trails within a short drive just passed the light house that are a must see! Definitely would stay here again!
This is our second year in a row at this cottage and we still love it!! The cottage is exactly as described and is located in a quiet area of Bass Harbor yet close enough to all the attraction of Acadia National Park. The owner is very responsive. We look forward to staying there again!
This was very nice place and was nicer than I expected ?
This was our second stay at this property and once again we were very comfortable. It is spacious and open. Four adults were very comfortable. Bass Harbor Island Cruise's Nature Cruise is walking distance from the house and we highly recommend it. We will be back!
You'd never know this cottage has been rented to people for over 20 years--it is so clean & in the BEST location. Much preferred the quiet side. Mary was so kind and attentive, too. It was nice to have a personable manager for a change rather than someone who cranks renters in & out. Our only complaint was there's no washer/dryer in the unit. She doesn't say there is in the listing, so it's not like we weren't informed. I just missed that detail. So pack extra, especially if you have small children who like to explore like ours!
We liked this sweet little place! It's well stocked. The kitchen is large and comfortable to cook in, the beds comfortable, linens soft, and I loved the vaulted pine sided ceiling. Mary placed a vase of fresh flowers on the kitchen table, such a beautiful and thoughtful touch. We would definitely stay again. Beautiful scenes nearby - Bass Harbor Head Light, ship harbor & wonderland trails, flying mountain trail, and sunsets!
Excellent property to base from to explore Acadia National park from. Very clean and comfortable with all the basics. Very quiet location. Less than a block to view the harbor and a short walk to the harbor itself. Beautiful sunset over the bay.
We had an excellent time while there. Accommodations were perfect for us. Everything was squeaky clean and the fresh flowers were such a nice welcome. Quiet area too.
This is the perfect cottage for exploring Acadia National Park and all of Mt Desert Island. Mary made sure everything was perfect for our stay. There's lots of space inside and outside. The full kitchen had everything we needed to prepare breakfast every morning before our daily explorations. And there's many great restaurants close by. We walked across the street nearly every evening to see the amazing Maine sunsets. The cottage is within 20 minutes of Bar Harbor and the ANP Visitor's Center. We would definitely book again!
Loved the location. A quiet street close enough to access all of Acadia Park - but away from the crowds. The house was comfortable, clean, and well provisioned. Communications with the host were first rate - friendly, informative, and responsive. Hope to come back.
