Bailey Island, Maine
JAQUISH LANE
Perched on a stretch of rocky Maine coast, Jaquish Lane is a fully renovated oceanfront compound with stunning views of the sea from nearly every room. The property is well off the main road, and offers total privacy. Jaquish Lane consists of two separate structures (Jaquish House and #14) connected by an open grassy lawn.
JAQUISH HOUSE is a large, luxurious family home with a huge open plan living area with sweeping ocean views. The master suite has breathtaking views from the king sized bed - as well as the jacuzzi soaking tub.
“NUMBER 14” is a gem-like efficiency "honeymoon cottage" for two from the early 1900’s - when there was little else on the island.
Enjoy naps on the porch or walk to nearby beaches, restaurants and shops. Explore tidepools along the water’s edge or take advantage of the world class striper fishing from the rocks . Eat lobster freshly pulled from the sea by local lobstermen. Go sailing to nearby Eagle Island or kayak the miles of peaceful Harpswell coastline. Curl up in front of the fireplace with a book and a glass of wine.
Whatever you choose to do, it all comes back to the view. Crashing waves or perfect calm – the sea is a constant and ever changing presence at both Jaquish House and Number 14. Sit back and watch the ocean change with the weather. Hour by hour. Minute by minute. Always different. Always beautiful.
Jaquish Lane is a place to gather, surrounded by friends and family. A place for sharing meals and stories and remembering how wonderful it feels to truly let yourself slow down.
Both JAQUISH HOUSE and NUMBER 14 were completely renovated in early 2015. The chefs kitchen features all new appliances as well as high efficiency washer and dryer. Bedrooms all have brand new mattresses and are furnished with luxury bedding and linens. JAQUISH HOUSE features one King sized Master suite with en suite bathroom featuring an oceanfront jacuzzi soaking tub. One Queen bedroom with ocean views, one Queen bedroom with 48" television and blu ray player, and one "bunk room" with 4 twin beds. Free wifi - high speed internet throughout. NUMBER 14 has one Queen bed, an ensuite bathroom with clawfoot tub and tiled shower, and a kitchenette with sink, stovetop, microwave and fridge.
NUMBER 14 is available from May 1st to November 1st.

THE OWNER
My name is Carter Smith and I am the owner of THE GILLS GROUP (The Red House, Jaquish Lane and The Gills). I was born on Bailey Island and after traveling the world I know that this little island is special. As both a photographer and filmmaker, I travel quite a bit and I've furnished the houses with things I've collected from around the world (and around Maine). These are not just "rental properties"to me . These are houses I've designed and furnished with love and attention to detail - places where I spend time with family and friends whenever I get the chance. Places that I love sharing.

Great house, great view, great communication. The house was super comfortable and relaxed for our group of adults, little kids and dog. Kitchen was well equipped but just note there’s no dishwasher. I expected to be able to walk down from the house to a rocky beach but it’s just a large rocky drop off. However we did enjoy the small sandy beach that’s just a 2 minute walk down the road for incredible sunrises and sunsets Would love to return sometime!
This was our second time staying at the Gills Group houses. This time in Jaquish which is the largest. LOVED this house. We were a group of seven and everyone had their own space. It's also great that it comes with the #14 cottage. The open living space is perfect and has the most incredible ocean views. Really no need to ever leave! The house manager Dave is also great. Very responsive to any and all needs. Makes the overall experience seamless. Cannot wait to come back next year!
Absolutely prefect!
It was a wonderful stay. Everyone was so helpful and friendly.
I was so impressed with the care taken in the property. It really is a special place. We had six adults and three kids so were left with plenty of space to hang out. The kitchen was really well equipped (less a dishwasher, but we adjusted to that pretty quickly). We had a lot of rain but the common space was large and comfortable and a perfect place to watch a storm roll through.
The house was amazing as was the setting. We are a family of 6 (all grown kids) and everyone had plenty of room to relax and unwind and be together inside and out! Dave, our property manager was incredibly responsive and lovely. We had such a wonderful time!
Fabulous location for a multi generational family gathering. We had a wonderful time.
Beautiful house with all the amenities you could ask for. The kitchen is well stocked to prepare great meals of the local seafood. Location and plentiful beautiful views made this stay awesome. Plenty to do and see. This is a beautiful area of the country. Experienced a Nor'easter during our stay too. We lost power but not to worry, our property contact Dave was there in a moment's notice to fire up the generator. He was a gem in taking care of us and making sure everything was perfect. I hope to return next year!
The trip got off to a great start when we entered the home, dimly lit and with a fire roaring. It was already dark, so we could not see the ocean, but when we awoke the next morning, we could then see the beautiful ocean views and rocky coast from the expansive primary bedroom windows. The coastline is exactly as it appears in the photos, the tides are pretty large providing a changing landscape throughout the day, the lobster boats come by regularly with sets directly in front of the home, there is constant entertainment. Functionally, the kitchen was fully stocked with all cookware, utensils, basic spices, and paper towels. Everything you need for a great stay!
House was as spectacular as listed. Kitchen very well equipped. Views were amazing. All 11 of us had a great time.
We enjoyed our time on Bailey’s Island very much. The cottages were perfectly located and gave us wonderful time together.
This is a beautiful home with an incredible view and lots of magical details. Loved the cozy couches inside and out!
The property is in a fantastic location. The view is more than amazing and our family & friends enjoyed being in the great open room or outside on the deck. The beauty begins with sunrise over the water. We were able to see several rainbows over the water and one day a double rainbow. At night the moon glistening on the water was so beautiful. Friends felt completely spoiled by the guest cottage when they visited. The location is convenient to many things and there is a perfect little beach within walking distance. If you have access to kayaks or a stand up board bring them. The younger children LOVED the bunkroom. It was outfitted with large raccoon & fox puppets climbing on the bunks which they immediately named and played with. Our extended family had a great time here. The only downside is maybe that for the large group that we were there is no dishwasher. We used paper plates sometimes and worked around it. The oven is functional but the pull out racks are a little rickety and the interior is beginning to deteriorate some. Made it seem like it was not clean inside. The outdoor grill is showing its age as well & needed a good scrubbing before use. The property manager Dave was available for any questions we had during our stay and very friendly. Bailey Island is a beautiful and relaxing place. We were all mesmerized by the water view, salt air, & ALL found ourselves so relaxed and wanting to nap in the late afternoon. The cottage decor is as pictured and unique. When friends visited we were 11 people for dinner. The large table could accommodate all of us. One night the youngest two sat at the little game table with the fancy pouf seats and felt like princesses. If you decide to venture out for dinner there are many amazing choices. Two favorites were Dolphin & The School House in Harpswell. This is a fantastic place for a relaxing seaside vacation with family & friends. We had so much fun & created many great memories here!
What an exquisite place for our family gathering… It served all our needs and all our senses! The home was spacious andbeautiful and had everything we needed, including wonderful gathering areas and porch views of the magnificent sea. We were three generations, and there was something for everyone, both on the property itself and in our adventures. We had two fantastic lobster nights with freshly caught local lobster, and adventured frequently to tide pools, area beaches, and hiking trails. The hosts were very responsive and helpful throughout our time, helping us locate kayak rentals, local lobster haunts and more. With the biblical sunsets, lobster rolls, beautiful paddling, and local homemade ice cream, this vacation was one for the books. Thank you Jaquish Lane and Bailey Island!
My wife and I rented this beautiful home(s) for a week and didn’t want to go back to reality. The experience was better than pictures will show, Bailey Island is like going back to simpler, better times. There is a tv there, but wasn’t turned on once. Cooking, listening to music by the sea, games with friends who came up, hikes, etc. The property manager Dave was extremely attentive and helpful with anything we needed, and the check in/out was simple. The views and Bailey Island as a whole were just gorgeous and the people in town and restaurants like Cook’s and Sundrenched couldn’t of been friendlier. We will definitely like to come back, as would our pup, who I had to pick up to get into the car when it was time to go- something that never happens!
It took us a few days to unwind from the business of life we left behind. Once we were able to settle into the pace of the island, we had a great time! We loved time as a family. The views are beautiful and the kids played on the rocks every day.
What a location! Right on the water, against the rocks with views to dream of. This is a charming older house completely renovated with stylish colors, patterns and textures, all with comfort in mind. We wanted for nothing, and enjoyed everything. Excellent communication from the property manager.
This is a splendid home right on the ocean, quiet and peaceful with comfortable furniture and a great view. We loved this place so much the first time we rented we immediately booked it again for this year. We had a delightful and relaxing stay, we only had one day of inclement weather which knocked the power out. David was kind enough to come out and get a generator running for us mid-squall. Thanks for having us!
