The TV has a FireTV stick installed, meaning that you can access streaming services such as Netflix, BBC iplayer, Amazon Prime accounts easily. A door from the lounge takes you into the conservatory - a lovely space to sit during the day, a small sofa, chairs and rug and then sliding glass doors lead you to the patio at the back of the property. The patio is paved and secluded. There is a gate to passageway along the side of the property to the front and this access to the patio and from there to the utility room makes returning from a long walk easy.

Upstairs, left takes you to the double room at the front of the property, with window and view to the front, plus hanging space and drawers. Next to the double (and closed off from the stairs and landing by a curtain, there is a modern bathroom with spa bath, shower over and saniflo toilet. Turning right from the top of the stairs takes you into a spacious twin room - with beds which convert to a super-king size bed if required. There is a wardrobe and chest of drawers. The cottage does not have a stair gate.

The shower room has mains toilet, basin and shower cubicle, with a small window and next door is the third bed room at the back, with good quality wooden bunk beds (3ft). Both bunks have bedside lights and storage boxes. Double windows in this room look to the rear of the cottage.

Outdoor Description
There is a small secure courtyard/patio area directly behind the cottage, with table and chairs.

Opposite the cottage (across the small road and by the parking spaces) there is a small patio area with table and chairs under the tree, or for more privacy, there is a gate and steps leading down to a private garden area beside Hawkcombe stream. Take a book and enjoy listening to the stream running by!

Please note, the steps down to the streamside garden are steep and due to the location, children should be supervised. The speed/flow of the stream can vary considerably depending on the time of year and recent rainfall. On the opposite side of the stream you have use of a further small paved area surrounded by shrubs and trees, and enjoying the sun into the later afternoon. This area is accessed via a bridle path or - in the summer, by wading across the stream - carefully!

Parking
There is allocated parking for two cars in the spaces opposite the cottage (across the lane).

The region

Porlock is a historic village on the edge of Exmoor National Park in Somerset, in a sheltered vale between the moor and the Bristol Channel coast. Its heritage stretches back to Saxon times.

The meandering High Street is lined with independent shops, including a traditional butcher, chemist, hardware shop, post office, two convenience stores, art galleries, a chocolate shop, and a cash machine. Most shops keep hours of 9am to 5pm, often extending during the summer season.

The harbour hamlet of Porlock Weir is approximately one mile to the west and makes a lovely walk or a short drive. There you will find a 15th-century tidal harbour, a pub, restaurants, cafes, and independent shops and galleries.

Minehead is the nearest town, approximately 6 miles away. Here you will find larger supermarkets and petrol stations (Tesco and Morrisons on the outskirts with longer opening hours), most major high street banks with cash machines, and a range of other shops. EV charging points are available at Porlock Central Car Park.

Lovely cosy, comfortable accommodation with all mod cons and welcome touches pre thought out and provided. Comfortable beds, plenty of bathroom facilities, log fires with everything provided - very impressed

Beautifully presented house with everything you could wish for provided. Great for woodland walks and handy for Porlock and the surrounding moors. We thoroughly enjoyed our few days here and felt quite sad when it was time to leave. We came as a couple but a great property for a family holiday too. ☺

The house was perfect. Not only as a base from which to explore the wonderful area, but also to relax in and be together as a family. It was very comfortable and cosy yet bright and spacious too, with lots of thoughtful touches to make your stay the best it could be. I would be very happy to recommend Highbank.

This was a brilliant location, an excellently equipped, tastefully furnished and decorated cottage. We were three guys on a short walking break but it would be equally good for 4 adults and 2 children. I have stayed in a lot of self-catering accommodation and this was one of the very best.

This is a lovely cottage in an excellent location. Tastefully furnished and decorated, the property has everything we needed for our stay and was spotlessly clean on arrival. There are lovely walks straight from the door with books and maps provided. The cottage is situated about a ten minute walk from the village centre along a quiet road. There are good places to eat and drink in Porlock, along with two well stocked shops and a good butchers. Would definitely recommend.

Highbank is an exceptional holiday cottage - a real home from home. It has everything you need plus nice little extra touches. Fantastic walks right from the doorstop and great places to eat. We loved the little cafe in town and the Top Ship pub. We stayed with friends and we were totally chilled out and relaxed after our stay. Thank you
