Hawi, Hawaii
Hawi Haven! Come away for a time of rest and rejuvenation at our lovingly restored plantation cottage. Our comfortable home consists of three bedrooms, two and a half baths and is hidden away on a quiet lot, complete with many tropical flowers and fruit trees. We are only a short stroll to historic Hawi Town and a brief drive to many of the Big Island's most beautiful beaches and historic sights.
Far away never felt so close to home!

Wonderful property!
We really loved our stay at the Hawi House, the location was great and easy check in. The house had plenty of room for our family of four, the bathroom, room set up is a little strange, but not a problem. We had a great time staying here.
We were totally charmed by this roomy, airy and classic bungalow, so obviously well cared for. We were amazed by how fully and wonderfully equipped it was for guests. They thought of EVERYTHING! Gracious hosts and wonderfully helpful caretaker, to whom we are very grateful. Loved all the books. A convenient stroll to downtown Hawi, and a nice little grocery store right across the street. We certainly hope to return!!
This is our favorite place to stay in Hawaii, we've probably stayed at least 6 or 7 times by now. The house is older but has a lot of character and is in great shape with updates where it makes sense. It's only a block away from shops and restaurants in tiny Hawi town. It's good sized, has a big front and back yard, carport for 2 cars and covered lanai, 3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths, a living room, big dining room and big kitchen. It's super clean and very well equipped, and the manager is helpful and easy to communicate with. One of the full baths is off the kitchen but the others can only be accessed through bedrooms so this could be a minor privacy issue if you're using all 3 bedrooms. WiFi is kind of slow. As of early 2023 there is a house being built next door, but while were were there for 10 days in January we only heard construction noise for a couple hours on and off on two different days. Neighbors on the other side are pretty quiet.
Hawi Haven was a welcome respite to begin our relaxation on the Big Island. The house was beautiful and so well maintained. Communication with the owner and property manager was excellent. Such a beautiful setting for our exploration of the northern part of the island. We would highly recommend a stay at this home.
This home is obviously lovingly cared for, nicely restored, and has beautiful art and furnishings. It's close to all North Kohala area sites. Directions to the house could be much simpler, as it was very close to the main road- which was not stated. We did find it easily, after turning around. The Visitor guidebook in house could use some more general information about the area and less info about organized tours and tour guides. The kitchen was great for cooking- had everything one could need! Because we wanted to rent this house, we agreed to the somewhat odd requirement to take our own trash and recycling to the drop off center upon leaving. It seems that the cost of the cleaning fee should have covered this task for the owners' local host/cleaner. Perhaps it is a covid concern? If so, it would be nice to state that, otherwise it seems like your housecleaner has an issue about handling trash or has no transportation to deal with taking the trash to the drop off. Though Shelly was covering for her sister, and she lives in Hilo, she did her best to answer our questions about the area, and was a good local host contact. Guests should be aware there are mosquitos in this region, and the front screen doors have a gap that can let them in. If you are attractive to mosquitos, we recommend not leaving the front door(s) open. We enjoyed our stay here very much.
We enjoyed our stay at Hawi Haven so much. The house is adorable, so clean, and well stocked with everything you’ll need for your stay. I’ve never stayed at a rental with such fine attention to detail. We enjoyed playing the myriad of games provided and listening to Hawaiian music on the CD player in the evening. The internet is fast, in case you need to work a bit like I did. The location is just a short 2 min walk into Hawi town, where you can get groceries, espresso, ice-cream, and breakfast. Some of the Big Island’s finest beaches are just a 25 min or so drive away, which we didn’t mind at all for the solitude of Hawi. Come enjoy this area and Hawi Haven before it’s “discovered”!
In Hawi for family wedding & this property was well appointed and in a beautiful setting. Would definitely return! Mahalo!
This property is absolutely wonderful. Beautifully maintained and appointed. Everything so thoughtfully considered. Great location for us.
Our stay at Hawi Haven was peaceful and relaxing. The little town, the authentic charming Hawaiian bungalow with a huge well equipped kitchen, comfortable furniture and inviting areas to linger inside and outside was the perfect environment for our family. We called it Hawi Heaven!
