Always In Season Farmstead Vacation Retreat
Aloha Donna & Kevin
Wonderful views, wonderful hosts in a lovely location.
What a peaceful place, juicing oranges everyday felt like drinking the sun, striking views of the ocean, Maui, and the stars, absolutely loved the outdoor shower.
To describe this place, with Donna and Kevin as the amazing host they were, feels near impossible. I had the amazing opportunity to travel to Big Island for a week and staying on this property could be the highlight of my own trip. So cozy, so privately mine, so beautiful. I highly recommend staying here and meeting Donna and Kevin because they were so helpful and wonderful and communicative to help me have the greatest week. Best recs from the hosts: Snorkel at Mahu Kona (best snorkeling I had all trip), drive up to Pololu and stop at Fresh Off The Grill for a poke bowl/nachos and then hike down to Pololu and sit and listen to the waves roll through the black rocks. Wow. Big Island is such a special place and so is Donna and Kevin's property. Please please please get out there and stay with these wonderful hosts and their dogs. Catch the sunset and say hi to the neighbors mini horse. Missing this place every day and plan to return! Mahola, Donna & Kevin
Staying at Donna and Kevin's place was amazing. Its out of the way, quiet and scenic, feels like a real get-away. I traveled with my 10-yr-old daughter and Kevin picked lemons and oranges with her in the backyard. A very memorable experience for her. Very much an outdoor feel, yet very cozy. A great home base to explore the north island. Hawi has a great local vibe on Friday nights :) We would definitely stay here again!
This property is a living botanical garden, replete with fruit trees and lovely plantings. Hosts Donna and Kevin have built a delightful, peaceful haven overlooking Maui across the channel. Not everyone wil enjoy using the outdoor toilet especially at night, but we didn’t mind, and the outdoor shower was a big hit with us! We had everything we needed for our 3 night stay plus had lots of advice from the hosts re local activities and resources. The location is not walkable to town but is about a ten minute, pretty drive there. We would stay here again!
Genuinely nice folks Kevin and Donna. I really appreciated their special customized touch to the accommodations which included a cozy bedroom and separate kitchen dining area. Bathroom and shower is outside in a garden area. Could use more lighting for walkway to bathroom area and maybe a dedicated umbrella. It’s generally quiet and peaceful giving one an immersive experience of the Hawaiian countryside. I really enjoy the occasional rain which is nice to sleep by.
It is unlikely you will ever stay at a more beautiful, private, picturesque place on the big island at this price. Driving into the property, I simply could not believe how gorgeous the gardens were, nor the views across the orchard to the ocean and on to Maui. Breathtaking. All of which makes it so surprising that the accommodation itself is so funky, lacking in aesthetics and simple comforts (eg, a bed light to read by or any light to find the outdoor toilet). The bed itself was comfy and there were ample towels & beach chairs. Grateful to host for jumpstarting car battery!
Awesome place to stay perfect amenities ,access ,views, landscape ,parking, and host. We would do it again in a heartbeat.
We used this place as our home away from home while we explored the island for a week. Its location, combined with very gracious hosts, made our experience unforgettable. Don’t miss the little coffee shop in Hawi. They make excellent Kona cold brew and the Thai tea ice cream was delicious! Thank you, Kevin and Donna!
It was wonderful to share Kevin & Donna's lovely property with its outstanding views. We were even treated to a rare sight of snow on Maui's Haleakala across the 70 mile channel during our stay. The quiet upscale neighborhood was a very pleasant shift from our previous visits to the busy Kailua Kona area. It's much more fun to try and identify Hawaiian birds than waste time in traffic! We already knew our way around from 6 previous visits to the Big Island, so we just loaded up the beach gear that they provided and headed to our favorite spots. We soon found out snorkeling in the winter is not that great due to storm surge, but there's always some place safe to swim. You might have to drive 20 to 30 minutes though. Listening to the Humpback whales sing underwater was worth the drive! Groceries at Takata's in nearby Kapa'au are about a 4 mile drive, the prices are reasonable and selection o.k. The cottage with its separate buildings for the bedroom & kitchen worked fine for us. The need to use the outdoor toilet in the middle of the night takes a bit of getting used to (we're in our mid-60's) but the on demand hot outdoor shower was FUN. We would definitely recommend this property for those who like some adventure along with having creature comforts at the same time. Marilyn & Carl Feb.2019 o.k. On
