Stayed Aug 19, 2025Beautiful rural location, perfect for children with indoor play room, lots of toys and safe outdoor space. Lovely gite with everything you need, not over modernised with lots of original features. Welcoming and friendly owners who live next door with the menagerie of lovely animals. Would stay here again. Thank you

Stayed Dec 31, 1969Another wonderful stay at la Hamel Roger. It is our second year because the location, friendliness of owners and relaxed feel make it a home from home. The cottage itself is extremely accommodating to our growing configuration requirements as our groups families expand with Ange taking advise on the day of where cots, toddler beds and single beds needed to go to ensure the best night sleep for all. An abundance of toys and space for both indoor and outdoor play provided entertainment whatever the weather, we stayed house base for over half our stay. It offers great value for money for a relaxed low key getaway.

Stayed Dec 31, 1969We stayed for 2 weeks at kestrel cottage with a 15 month old and a dog- Angie and Danny and family were extremely welcoming and after showing us around despite being just next door we were left to our privacy with them on hand just in case we needed anything. The house was well stocked for cooking and ideal for those with young children with stairgates and toys. The huge bonus was the playbarn and outdoor toys and our little boy barely played with his own toys as there was so much to entertain him/ wear him out! It was also warm enough for a dip in the outdoor pool on one day! Having stayed in a few rustic barns in Normandy this was a welcome change as it was light and warm and lovely and clean. We are regular visitors to this part of Normandy and the location was perfect- close to the lovely village and park of beny bocage but an easy drive to vire or Villiers bocage for larger shops and less than an hour to beaches. Definitely would recommend it particularly families with under fives and we'll be back!

Stayed Dec 31, 1969We arrived on Saturday lunch time, and immediately felt relaxed. This was our 2nd time of staying at Le Hamel Roger and by the evening we were already talking about booking our 3rd visit. (Which we now have :) ). Danny, Angie & their family are the perfect hosts, very friendly, helpful, more than happy to share their knowledge and advice for local attractions (and tips for those on a budget). The house is in a great location, nice and rural for those that like the peace and quiet or tranquil local walks, but also close enough to get to the local shops and markets via a short drive. Also perfect if you want to travel to the tourist attractions such as the beaches etc. The house is very child friendly and well equipped, everything you need for your break is here, evenings spent playing board games as a family (whilst mum and dad enjoyed a glass of wine) really help to get the family to enjoy proper quality time together away from the day to day toil of normal working life. We came away from here again feeling completely relaxed. We would recommend this place for families of all sizes as there is something to do for all. The play barn can be a great way to keep younger children entertained too. Little tips we have learnt, travel from the UK to Caen as then you only have a 45 min drive to the house (plus you save on the tolls). If arriving late on a Saturday, bring some food basics to get through Sunday as shops do not open on Sundays. Drink the wine from the local supermarket (watch what the locals buy - its always a good choice). Speak to Angie about local attractions, she can give a good run down on them all, advising best days to visit etc. Highly recommend this place for a great relaxing holiday, book now as you will not be disappointed.

Stayed Dec 31, 1969We came to stay at Kestrel Cottage with another family - there were six of us in total, including two toddlers. Throughout the entire process Angie couldn't have been more helpful and friendly, and this extended into and beyond our visit. The cottage itself is lovely - it was spotlessly clean when we arrived and had plenty of room for us all. There were toys on the play landing which was great for the children, and the toddler bed and large cot bed made it a home from home for our little ones - we didn't have a disturbed night for the whole week we were there. The garden and outside space is wonderful - you're surrounded by farmland so really do feel that you're getting away from it all! The space came fully equipped with outdoor toys (playhouse, ride-in cars, trampoline, paddling pool) which kept the children amused for hours - literally! But the hidden genius of Kestrel Cottage for us was the play barn - adjacent to the cottage, this was a lifesaver on the one rainy day we had. Kiddie-coaster, play kitchen, blackboard, dressing up, ball pit... the list goes on. There are loads of things nearby to do, so you won't be bored - unless you simply want to sit in the garden soaking up the sun of course. We had looked all over for a place that would keep our girls entertained and would mean we wouldn't need to fill our car with kiddy stuff for the trip but that wouldn't cost the earth. Kestrel Cottage will give you the same sort of things you'd find on BabyFriendlyBoltholes.com but at a fraction of the cost. Great value for money, friendly owners and one of the most fun AND relaxing holidays I've had in ages. Can't recommend Kestrel Cottage enough.

Stayed Dec 31, 1969We have just returned from the most tranquil and wonderful family holiday. Kestrel cottage, is fantastic as are the family that own it and live next door. The cottage has everything you could possibly need and so much more. Books, DVDs, games, a playroom for the children, baby cot / highchair / toys / changing mat...even the use of an off road buggy. It has a super garden and a swimming pool (too cold for us to use!). There are lots of interesting things to do locally and Angie is always on hand to help and offer advice and tips...which was just brilliant. It is very rural and the surroundings are beautiful. There are so few cars and lots of wonderful walks nearby. It is also close to some amazing sites of world historical interest - Le Mont St Michel and Bayeux. Highly recommended for a quiet and relaxing holiday for a couple or a family. Angie, Dan and all the kids are extremely welcoming and friendly - nothing was too much trouble...they were so lovely to our exuberant six month old puppy! And as for the Calvados...!!!

Stayed Dec 31, 1969Nice family house ,Lovely peaceful place where on a clear night the milky way is visible! ,very amiable hosts next door who are very family orientated and will help and give advice if wanted. You must travel to find the restaurants but a small price to pay for the genuine peace and quite.
