Englefield is located in Ventnor, which is situated on south coast of the island positioned above Bonchurch on the eastern fringe with outstanding sea views. Please note that the access to Englefield involves a number of steps and a sloped pathway so may not be suitable for guests with mobility issues.
This chalet bungalow has two double bedrooms, a twin bedroom, a shower room on the ground floor, a bathroom upstairs, kitchen, dining room, lounge and sunroom with a large bay window with fantastic sea views.
At the front of the house, there is a car parking bay (for one car) and a stunning terrace where you can soak up the spectacular seascape and to the rear, there is a beautifully maintained garden that backs onto downland.
Situated on the outskirts of Ventnor, Bonchurch is a beautiful village, nestling on the side of St Boniface down, leading down to the sea. The seafront has a safe shingle/sand beach with rock pools, ideal for children. From the shore you can take a level walk along the revetment towards Ventnor, passing Wheelers Bay and ending in the harbour where you can purchase the catch of the day. In the village itself is a large wildlife pond, home to ducks, herons and carp, surrounded by trees and plants and floodlit at night, this is a magical place to sit and relax. For dining out within the village The Bonchurch Inn offers excellent cuisine.

Old St Boniface Church in Bonchurch dates from the 11th century, with the bell cote dating from the 16th century as does the bell. The south porch was added in the 19th century. It was replaced by St. Boniface Church in 1848. After the new church was built the old church went into a long sleep and wasn't used for decades.

The Victorian town of Ventnor benefits from a main shopping street, with a range of shops, restaurants, cafes and pubs. The Esplanade has a crescent shaped sand and shingle beach and a small harbour, where fresh seafood can be purchased. There are several cafes and pubs; the popular ‘Spyglass Inn' enjoys outstanding sea views and family entertainment. The Smoking Lobster with its Asian seafood fusion food is a great place to relax and enjoy the superb views across the English Channel. As is The Terrace wine bar. Alternatively stroll along the Cliff Path to the famous Ventnor Botanical Gardens and down towards the picturesque Steephill Cove.
There are a number of great restaurants in Ventnor including True Food, The Bistro, Stripped and Cantina along with Chinese and Indian restaurants. Many of the cafes provide take-aways.

Ventnor Botanic Garden lies in the remarkable microclimate at the heart of the famous 'Undercliff.' This unique garden is protected from the cold northerly winds by chalk downs. In addition to enjoying the lovely gardens, it also hosts events and exhibitions and there is a restaurant serving local produce, and Café on-site for refreshments; lunch or coffee and cake!

Please note that the access to Englefield involves a number of steps and a sloped pathway so may not be suitable for guests with mobility issues.

Beautiful views from the front and the back of this property. Comfy and warm. Upstairs bedroom not really as good as the 2 on the ground floor. Kitchen facilities excellent, with nice dining room, again lovely views both ends. Well equipped. Off road parking for my car. Convenient for a bus stop, with very good services all round island.

Excellent location, not suitable for anyone with difficulty going uphill. Very well equipped, but carpets and furniture need to be refreshed, as very musty odour that clears when windows open. Parking off road but slightly awkward access Overall good stay

Englefield never fails to deliver! We have been visiting this lovely property for many years and it gets better every year. This year we were thrilled to find a new shower had been installed. Englefield provides everything you need for a home from home holiday and is ideally situated in Ventnor overlooking the sea. Many an hour is spent identifying the boats and cruise ships passing by! There are several excellent restaurants both in Ventnor and further afield - the joy of the Isle of Wight is that nowhere is that far away! All being well we shall be returning in 2026

We enjoyed a spring break with 6 of us (2 grand parents, 2 parents and 2 student-aged sons). The venue has stunning views of the sea and we enjoyed sitting out in the front garden enjoying the view. The house is cosy but well equipped. Immediately behind the house is a steep path up to the highest downs on the Isle where you can enjoy wonderful walks. The house has access to buses and you can also walk down to Bonchurch and Ventnor. We enjoyed using the small telescope to study the moon while we were there.

This small holiday home is cozy and has a beautiful sea view. It is located on a main road that was closed during our stay so it was wonderfully quiet. downsides were the small double beds. the whole house ihas carpets. This can be a problem for people who are allergic. We had a nice time.

Once again Englefield did not disappoint - everything was as good as we expected, despite the road closure further along Leeson Road. This created no problems for us at all, in fact the diversions were on very scenic routes much enjoyed by us all! The weather wasn't perfect, but when you have everything you need at the property, it did not detract from our stay. We leave Englefied feeling relaxed and looking forward to our return visit the next year. Roll on 2025!

Terrific views from the front of the house. House up a very steep slope from the parking which is at road level. Also a number of steep steps to negotiate. Bathroom very small and the toilet not ventilated in any way. Large number of collectables throughout the house, very steep rear garden. Not suitable for people with mobility issues.

A spacious bungalow with a huge front view of the sea and a rear view of the Downs. On a bus route if you dont want to drive each day, and within a short walk or drive to Bonchurch Inn where we had a lovely meal. A little old fashioned in some of its fittings , but this added to its charm for us and we have never stayed in a self cater which provided so much in the way of those small but helpful bits and pieces. Beautiful walks on the doorstep. Accessibility good apart from a slope up to the property, take it steady if mobility issues.

The best part of staying at Englefield was the view, uninterrupted sea views were perfect. These view meant that the house was up some steep steps and a steep path, it was ok for us but others with mobility problems might find this difficult. The house itself was very nice and the most has been made with the use of space, this did mean that the downstairs loo and bathroom were small as was the kitchen although well stocked with everything you need to comfortably be able to cook proper meals. We loved the lazy susan on the dining room table. The beds were what you expect in a holiday house, mattresses were a little hard but for some that is probably fine. The duvets on the beds were too thick for summer months (even this summer!) It would be good if alternatives were provided like a thinner quilt because the bed shams were not suitable. The house contained interesting but rather too many (for my liking) nik naks which need to be dusted to avoid the odd cobwebs being missed. Overall we spent a lovely week at Englefield.
