Sullivan, Maine
The best of Maine’s historic shore and woodland cabins! Near Acadia National Park!
*** Please make initial inquiry to Owner prior to booking***
The fully maintained and newly renovated Cottage is perched just above the shore line and has extensive beach, water and mountain views from many large windows. The cottage is just a few steps from a 250 yard long beach with fresh clear spring fed water lake and gradual sandy bottom swimming.
The cottage can also have an "add on" nearby one-room cabin made available. This cabin is separate, with private bathroom, outdoor shower, grill, basic cooking, coffee, fridge, deck, and a queen bunkbed. Please inquiry if interested. Owner can add it onto this rental prior to booking via VRBO.
My Maine property is a private 300-acre peninsula with a mile-long private gated driveway through some of Maine's last stand of old growth Hemlocks that then splits off to each of 4 private cabins. I have been renting three of the cabins to vetted families and couples since 1997 through online services such as VRBO. Each rental has privacy, separate parking, natural and unobstructed views of the lake, beach and mountains. Our completely private 250 yard long beach is the center piece. The Boathouse (google “VRBO 4017223ha”) and Three Bears Cottage (google “VRBO 102873ha”) are located on the south end of the beach and are separated by 25 yards. The Shadow Cabin (Google “VRBO 102874ha”) and the other cabin (my private) are located on the north end of the beach and are separated by 50 yards.
The property is large and I limit the number of people on the property at one time so that the general serenity of the property can be fully experienced by all without any worry about noise, beach use, shared amenities, and general privacy. There is a caretaker who will be there on the day of arrival, Wednesday for trash and assistance, and is on call for emergencies and to maintain the safety, sanitation, and operation of the property for you. The lake and surrounding area have abundant loons and their haunting calls can be heard day and night. They are a daily visitor to our private cove along with duck families, turtles, and bald eagles. The lake is superb for swimming and is completely spring fed so the water is crystal clear, fresh, and enjoyable. The water temperatures are very comfortable during the summer months and can be enjoyed for hours. Our large private beach offers a soft, clean (non-muck), sandy, gradual entrance into the water. We have a wooden floating raft that is perfect to fish from, swim or paddle to and from, as well as relax on while watching the schools of fish swim by. Our property is surrounded by a State of Maine land reserve (Donnell Pond Unit) that is an extension of Acadia National Park. There is fantastic hiking and exploring all within just a few minutes’ drive or locally a short walk or paddle, all of which has views over thousands of acres of protected land, Acadia National Park, seacoast, islands, lakes, mountains, and our property. We offer for our guests 5 one-man kayaks, 1 two-man kayak, 3 paddle boards, 5 kid kayaks, and a canoe to explore the lake, its remote beaches, the outlets, beaver dams, eagle nests, and fishing. The lake is 75% undeveloped/State owned so you can enjoy the completely secluded natural beaches and shores without worry. The entire property is in its natural state and could be physically challenging.
We do allow for an authorized dog(s) with the understanding that it is not allowed onto furniture, be destructive to the property, be overly bothersome, or be left unattended without being properly secured or crated. It is, however, a fantastic place for a dog especially for one that loves the water, beach, woods, hiking, and general free play. There is a $100 per dog fee. There will be other dogs on the property. Most return every year and are known and have been respectful. Please understand that dogs are often playing on the beach off-leash.

If you want to get away this place is it. Beautiful cabin by the lake. We loved the seclusion and quietness of it all. There was a sense of serenity, peace, and quiet. Loved the esthetic of the cabin with all it New England charm.
We loved this location as it was out in the woods yet close enough for us to travel to local areas to see the great scenes of Maine. Very relaxing sitting out in the beach watching the sunset!!! We will be back!
My husband and I had an incredible experience staying at this special cottage. We didn’t expect it to be one of the most memorable parts of our trip. The location and set up provided a peaceful oasis after long days exploring Acadia and Bar Harbor. The cottage met all of our needs to include providing a perfect haven for our dogs. We loved the accommodations, the location and the people. We had very few neighbors and the uniqueness of the place made for pleasant and fun interactions when we did run into each other. Andrew was a great host who gave us a deeper appreciation for the history behind the beauty that surrounded us. We look forward to our future return to this magical place!
I'd like to thank the owner(s) for the opportunity to stay at such a beautiful, quite and very clean place in the woods of an untouched land of Maine. We will be back!
Our family can’t say enough good things about the cabin and the property. It was everything we hoped it would be and then some. Looking forward to staying again in the future!
It’s hard to imagine a vacation rental near Acadia Ntl Park that would make you NOT want to go into the park… but this is it. From the private beach, crystal clear lake and cozy cabin, you won’t want to leave. Loved that our fur-baby was welcome, and he had the time of his life running around with new friend Bo! ? Thank you Andrew for allowing us access to such a beautiful, untouched piece of heaven. It’s a rare find.
Upon arriving we traveled through an almost untouched forest with just enough space for our vehicle. It was a magical moment. We have never felt in the forest more than here. The water and beach were spectacular. Water crystal clear, clean sandy beach, coves of rocks that make you feel so small. Our dogs had a blast and are exhausted from the hiking on the property. We kayaked and ate some great food. Bob the caretaker was a pleasure to talk to and work with. Informational only: There is no TV, washer or dryer. Arrive before dark and follow the instructions from the owner. Print the instructions out because you will loose service closer to the cabin. iPhone texts go through great at the cabin. Wifi is super fast.
After wandering around Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor during our days it was relaxing and rejuvenating to return to the peaceful solitude of the cabin in the woods.
Untouched piece of heaven in Maine. Loved our stay. We will be back!!
Our 3 night visit to Andrew's cabin on Spring River Lake was great. The house was very clean and situated well on the lake near the beach. The kayaks came in handy and there are some awesome trails close by. It was nice to stay in a remote place before we made our trip into all the hustle - bustle of Bar Harbor.
