Charlotteville (within the UNESCO biosphere reserve) is approximately 1.2hrs from the Tobago Airport, and off the beaten path. It is the most picturesque of villages in Tobago. It is isolated by the mountains to the south and a narrow winding road to the west, the quaint village nestles on steep cliffs above the deep blue Man O’ War Bay. The village remains unspoiled and pristine with little development. About a 10-minute walk from Bella Vista, there are beach facilities and a couple restaurants offering local cuisines. About a 15-minute hike from the village, is the Pirate’s Bay, a secluded and beautiful bay!

Bella Vista cottage overlooks the village, rainforest and Caribbean Sea. It is situated close enough to experience village life but tucked away to enjoy solitude and the most breath-taking views of the ocean, village, and rainforest! Beautiful beaches are just a 5-10 min walk away.

Bella Vista is a cozy one bedroom, one-bathroom wooden cottage perched on a steep hillside. It is part of a multilevel wooden villa on a steep slope. Owners are sometimes on-site. The property sits on an acre of lush garden amidst tropical flowers, and fruit trees. The location is ideal for bird watching - motmot, bananaquits, parrots, tanagiers, corn birds, hummingbirds, cocricos (Tobago's national bird) and others. Place a banana on the feeder and hang out on the deck for the show!

The kitchen features a full-size fridge freezer, microwave, full gas cooker with oven, electric kettle, electric coffee maker and toaster. The kitchen, living room, dining and bedroom area all open onto the large deck. Mosquito net is provided.

If you chose to be car-free for all/most of your stay, affordable public transportation (buses and taxis) can be accessed in the village opposite the gas station. They can take you anywhere en route to Scarborough. You can also hire a driver at a very reasonable rate to take you around. Car rentals can be found online or at the Tobago airport.
Guest parking available for one vehicle at the front of cottage.

From the hammock, listen to the waves, or watch the pelicans play in the Caribbean Sea. Stroll through the village, pick up fresh produce / seafood from vendors, and enjoy a freshly picked coconut! Hike or take a boat to Pirate’s Bay to swim/snorkel in the crystal-clear waters. Paradise! In the evenings, unwind on the deck with your favourite beverage.

No-Smoking Policy
The property is 100% smoke free, this includes the balcony. If you need to smoke, please take it to the roadside.

For safety reasons, due to the design of the balcony we do not accept reservations with children.

Avoid a cleaning charge - keep it like you found it. Additional cleaning services available at an extra charge.

Potential for noise: Charlotteville is a real Caribbean village, not touristy and certainly not as quiet as a resort. Due to the elevated location of the cottage and Amphitheatre shaped hills sounds will travel. Churches, music lovers, workers, funeral wakes, occasional fests, dogs, birds etc., can be audible during days and nights.

Bella Vista is a nature lovers’ haven - if this is not your thing, please look into accommodation elsewhere.

Our aim is to reduce the amount of garbage, especially plastics used on site. Pack a reusable water bottle, shopping bag, reuse plastic shopping bags etc.

Very good accommodation (for a couple) in a beautiful location on its own on a forested mountainside accessed 800m up a steep hill outside a beautiful charming village. Cottage has wonderful views of the sea and the village. Not suitable for children, elderly people or wheelchairs

Bella Vista has become our getaway of choice in Tobago. It's comfortable, serene, safe and has a unforgettable view of Charlotteville valley and bay.

We had a great time. It was our second time staying at Bella Vista. It was clean, cosy; just as we remembered. Waking up to flocks of parrots in the mango tree, the sound of waves and the view of the bay each morning was idyllic.

My husband and I stayed here for three nights and we did not want to leave, we found this place most relaxing and peaceful. The cottage is as described and as shown in the pictures. The view from the deck is amazing which we enjoyed every morning while drinking our coffee before venturing down for a morning dip. You can also enjoy a lovely rest in the hammock while listening to the beautiful sounds all around. Nirala is a perfect host, available and helpful with suggestions and recommending various places to visit and eat. Nirala got us set up for a wonderful afternoon boat ride, which was totally delightful. We hope to return to Tobago and if we do will certainly look no further than this perfect spot. Thanks Nirala for sharing your little piece of heaven.

The view is amazing! We loved birdwatching! The kitchen wasn’t 100% clean and we shared the apartment with some animals so please take this into account when booking it!

The property was beautiful and had a lovely Caribbean feel. The view from the deck was stunning, watching village life and the local fishermen in their boats. You can walk to Pirates Bay but it is quite a haul back up the steps. If you want a lift there or to Lovers Bay one of the fishermen will take you. We would recommend asking for Jagga - just ask at the pier - and he will take you. He will also take you fishing which was the highlight of my husbands stay. He went three times with Jagga and had the best time. Just say Patsy and Paul sent you. Argyl Falls was lovely too. Our guide Brian took us around the falls and we were able to sit underneath it and swim in the pool so take you swimwear. If, like me, biting insects treat you like a running buffet then be prepared. Thank you Rhonda for saving my life by getting some antihistamine from Scarborough for me. Such a wonderful thing to do for me. We will definitely go back. Charlotteville is such a beautiful place to stay; the people were super friendly and the accommodation was fabulous.

I first saw this property on an online search 3 years ago. I fell in love with it then, and had to wait over 2 years to come due to availability and then the pandemic. They say good things come to those who wait, and they weren't wrong. This is a most special accommodation. Everything is great. Having breakfast with hummingbirds is worth the visit alone. The village is timeless, the people charming and friendly. Nirala is on hand all the time and couldn't be more helpful. I hope to be back one day.
