Stayed May 17, 2026This place was so nice and the location so perfect for fly fishing that I am almost hesitant to write a review, because I want it all to myself. The West Fork of the Kickapoo is right across the road, and the location between two fairly distant bridges means you will have the stream all to yourself. And it is a great stream. At night, you cannot see a light anywhere from one end of the valley to the other. Just pure darkness and the sounds of owls and frogs. It's amazing. Accommodations were wonderful. I can't say enough. I have stayed in probably 8 cabins in the Driftless area. All of them have been wonderful, but this one was the best.

Stayed Feb 27, 2026The host was very responsive and answered questions and messages in a timely manner. The Honey Barn was clean and well maintained. We made all our meals during our stay and the kitchen and its island were an important part of bonding and socializing. The sleeping arrangements were comfortable, and the living spaces gave us so many choices for relaxing and enjoying our time together and alone. The weather swung from a beautiful warm day where we could enjoy the rocking chairs on the front porch to watching the snow fall from inside in front of the electric fireplace with a book. We're already discussing a potential return in the fall to enjoy the porch, autumn colors, and fire pit to the full potential.

The space was very clean, heated floors and a fireplace insert in the first floor bedroom. All of this made for a wonderful weekend we will absolutely look to return sometime down the road Rick, the host was very attentive to questions via chat prior to our stay thanks again.

Stayed Nov 14, 2025We loved the Honey House! What an awesome home for a long weekend or extended trip. My cousin and I needed a girl’s trip and this was the perfect spot. It’s clear Rick and Janie put a lot of thought into the layout of the space. Super user-friendly with everything you need. We enjoyed sitting on the porch for bird-watching in the morning, watching the sun move across the land, and waving to the horse-and-buggies that passed by. We saw a handful of eagles flying by in the morning and evening. It’s a short drive into Viroqua or Westby if you’re looking to go out for food, shopping or music. My cousin accidentally locked us out right before checkout and Rick popped by a few minutes after we reached out to let us back in to grab the last of our things, so nice! Thank you!

Stayed Oct 14, 2025Absolutely beautiful property and home! We toured the countryside and the fall colors were gorgeous...even in the rain. The cottage beautifully decorated and that gives you a homey vibe. My favorite thing about this place was the egg incubator that they repurposed into a kitchen island!! LOVE IT! We would stay here again and will recommend to family and friends. Actually, after I bragged about the place on Facebook some friends told me they had stayed there previous to our stay and loved it too. Thank you Rick for sharing your property with us!Jim and Luanne

Stayed Jul 21, 2025We rent the Honey House for our friends/visitors to stay at when they come to the area. It is a great way to let them feel It was warm, inviting, and thoughtfully prepared—every detail felt like it was designed to help them relax. Evenings were especially serene, with the soothing sound of crickets and the occasional glimpse of wildlife just beyond the trees. A small creek nearby added to the peaceful charm, making morning walks feel extra special. If you’re looking for a quiet escape surrounded by nature, this is it.

Stayed Aug 16, 2025I really enjoyed my time at the Honey House. The property is stunning. The house is spacious and cozy and had every amenity I needed while I was there. I decided to sleep in the loft upstairs so I could gaze out of the skylight. Although the weather wasn't as cooperative as I had hoped, it would still a fun experience. My favorite part of the day was relaxing on the porch in the late afternoon and listening to and watching the birds. It was such a peaceful experience.Rick was very quick to respond to my one question before I arrived. He emailed me after my stay and asked me if I enjoyed my visit. Such a gracious host! The towns of Westby and Viroqua are nearby. Both places had great diners, coffee shops, and very friendly people. This trip was worth the drive from Milwaukee. I'm hooked on country life!

Stayed Jun 23, 2025Being in an Amish area, we enjoyed sitting on the front porch watching multiple horse and buggies driving by with drivers waving. We had rain our entire stay, so were not able to enjoy the firepit or gas fire table on patio. But we grilled out on the gas grill and made use of the covered porch. Fireflies abound everywhere - our own silent fireworks show! We'll be back again...

Stayed Mar 30, 2025Listen y'all, this spot is really great. If you are on the fence about booking, go for it!. Rick was great to work with and responded to questions quickly. The barn/cabin is super cozy, clean, and has what you need for making meals, getting good sleep, and keeping entertained (as if the Amish buggies going by wasn't enough entertainment). We were close to town, but remote enough to feel the peace. We fished for trout almost every day - you'd need a lifetime or two to hit all the streams nearby. It's just gorgeous in this area. We will be back, and will most certainly book the barn again.

Stayed Dec 30, 2024What a cool location to take our winter family trip! We loved the secluded property. The drive in was so interesting with the hills and the viewing of the Amish community. My son is obsessed with horses and barns and this place was a perfect surprise. The house was very nice and cozy. We did have to vacuum when we arrived as we have a 2 year old who would be on the floor, so it did need to be vacuumed. An alarm kept us from sleeping one night, which was awful, but the host apologized the morning after. I wish I would have known this could be turned off before losing a nights sleep. Overall, it was a very great house to spend a few days at. We would definitely go back!

The cabin is stocked with most everything you need. I felt there could have been more acceptable pots and pans for cooking meals, such as a good baking sheet and updated nonstick for pancakes and eggs. A griddle would have been perfect.
