Welcome to (the Brand-New!) Spooner Lake Island Oasis!
...a property by Classy Rustic Rentals
Just under 2 hours from St. Paul, Minnesota, this Beautiful 3-acre Private Island Oasis with over 1,000' of frontage on Spooner Lake (Spooner, WI) and brand-new Heated Pool will take your breath away! The Island is fully accessible by car via a short bridge. This property is the definition of seclusion! Be sure to read the entire description - there's so much to say about this property!
We call it 'The Island'.
It is a beautiful, 3-acre private island that is fully accessible by car via a short bridge. On the front crest of the island, we have 1,000 feet of western-facing lake frontage (endless sunsets!) and mile-long views across Spooner Lake (in Spooner, WI). On the back crest of the island, we have 1,000 feet of frontage on a beautiful 300+ acre Tamarack wetland. The island itself sits about 6-8 feet above the water and has over 200 large red pines, white pines, oaks, and maples. Under all the trees, most of the island is manicured lawn allowing you to peer down the entire length of the island and see the beautiful lake views through all the mature tree trunks.
The Island boasts an amazing in-ground, heated pool amidst a beautifully landscaped 5,000SF lakeside patio, complete with two hot tubs, an outdoor kitchen, lakeside cabana & fireplace, stone sectional with a fire table and outdoor seating for 80+. Additionally, there is a 35’x65’ concrete sport court area to enjoy pickleball & basketball with dedicated tetherball and volleyball courts as well! Multiple fire pits, docks, paddle boards and kayaks - even a few disc golf baskets!
In the summer, we have 2 docks, 2 swim platforms, and 2 lily pads as well as kayaks, paddle boards, and a pontoon and two jet skis for rent. The lake bottom is sandy, with some river rock areas and the shoreline has a gradual grade; great for endless kid-play. Spooner Lake is a fully recreational lake boasting nearly 1,200 acres. It has multiple inhabited islands, a large community sand bar, and has some of the clearest water in northwestern Wisconsin. This property is the definition of seclusion - it is quite a spectacular, one-of-a-kind location!
The Island property has 13,000 square feet in total between all structures and is a fully remodeled/new construction facility with a Classy-Rustic Design. There are 4 buildings on The Island: The Main Lakehouse, the Clubhouse, the Cottage and the Bunkhouse/Pavilion. In total, it features 21 bedrooms, 13 bathrooms, 3 full kitchens, 10 living rooms, and more. There are 18 king beds, 4 queens, and about 40 twins throughout the 21 bedrooms and 3 lofts. Every bedroom has either a king or a queen bed. Six bedrooms have adjoining bathrooms, including 4 private master suites. Additionally, 15 of the 21 bedrooms have at least 1 twin bed (some have as many as 6), either in a bunkbed or in a lofted area that is accessible via a ladder from within the bedroom.
While we don't prefer to max out our capacity, the Island can sleep over 80 people in over 60 beds. This 'over-bedding' allows great flexibility in sleeping arrangements for our larger groups. Because of the amazing views, we installed over 160 windows on the property and the lake views from inside are unparalleled!
The Lakehouse:
The Main Lakehouse is 8,000SF and has 15 king bedrooms and 10 baths. First floor is a fully open-concept design with spectacular 11-foot ceilings. It has a huge 26-foot-wide kitchen with a 13’ island, over 30’ of dining tables, a huge living room with a stone gas fireplace, a beautiful sunroom, and a large great room with crazy-beautiful sunset-facing lake views. The main floor also has 2 master suites, 2 additional bedrooms, and 2 additional bathrooms. On second floor you’ll find 11 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms, including the main master suite with spectacular lake views.
The north and south wings of second floor can be closed off to become 4-bedroom/2-bath and 3-bedroom/3-bath suites. At the top of the stairwell on second floor, there is large 12’x20’ living room with a TV and seating for 4-8. There is an upper loft overlooking this living room that is a fun space for kids and also has 2 twin mattresses. Throughout the Main Lodge, there are several lofted areas for the kids to explore, have fun, and sleep. Some lofts have beds and some are simply creative places to play. In total, the Main Lodge at The Island has 15 king beds and 28 twin beds, sleeping nearly 60 people in all. Outside the Main Lodge is a large lakeside patio to enjoy the unparalleled (seriously!) views of the lake.
The Clubhouse:
The Clubhouse is a 3,000SF building for pure entertainment fun, including an 18-seat movie theatre, pool table, ping pong, foosball, shuffleboard, basketball, countless arcades and more! There is a full kitchen, a dining area, 4 living rooms, and a 12’ indoor/outdoor counter to the large outdoor pool deck. It also has 3 king bedrooms and two full bathrooms. There is an additional queen in a top bunk (over a king) and 3 more twins in a triple bunk. In all, the Clubhouse sleeps 11 people.
The Clubhouse is connected to the Main Lodge with a 20-foot-long mudroom. In total, the Main Lodge and Clubhouse are 11,000SF and over 200 feet in length. They sit parallel to the lakeshore to enjoy the beautiful sunset-facing views of Spooner Lake 24/7/365!
Pool & Hot Tub Oasis:
Between the Main Lodge and the Clubhouse sits the amazing 12’x14’ lakeside heated pool. It is surrounded by a massive 5,000SF paver patio featuring a huge outdoor sectional around a gas fire table, an outdoor kitchen with built-in grill and wood-burning pizza oven, dining tables for 50+ people and more. There are also two, 8–10 person hot tubs with seating at a 12’ countertop on either side of the hot tubs, and outdoor TV. ... Not to mention the 20'x20' poolside cabana that has seating for nearly 20, another TV and a beautiful stone fireplace. The cabana and all three of the main buildings are interconnected with a massive 10,000SF web of concrete sidewalks and patios.
The Cottage:
The Island also has a standalone 800SF, fully equipped Guest Cottage that has two additional bedrooms, both with 1 queen and a lofted twin, and an open loft with three additional twin beds. It has a brand-new kitchen complete with all standard appliances, a full bath, a washer/dryer, and charming living room with 15 windows to enjoy the beautiful lake views. The Cottage sits just 35 feet from the Main Lodge. In total, this quaint, fully remodeled cottage sleeps 9 people. It works perfectly for that family unit/group that prefers a bit of separation from the rest of the group, or simply as additional space for large groups.
The Bunkhouse & Pavilion:
On the southern end of the Island is a perfect 15’x18’ bunkhouse with an attached 22’x22’ outdoor pavilion. The bunkhouse is made of all windows and doubles as a sunroom. It boasts a queen couchbed and 4 twin beds in bunks as well as a TV and a great living room space to take in the best views on the property! The attached pavilion is perfect for outdoor entertainment. And just in front of the bunkhouse is a large firepit area for enjoying the nightlife at The Island - with unparalleled views!
Our base pricing covers up to 35 people. Beyond 35 people, there is a $25 per person, per night fee. The property also has a $2,500 refundable security deposit. The pontoon and both jet skis rent for $2,000 each for the week. Each boat requires an additional $500 security deposit. Sales tax of 5.5% applies to all rental fees.

Our group had an amazing time relaxing and unwinding for a few days in this beautiful home. Plenty of space and tons of wonderful views of the lake. The clubhouse kept everyone active and there was plenty to keep us busy
House was very open and accommodating for large groups of people. We stayed during the winter season and had no problem getting everyone together in the main house and/or the game room. Very quick and easy drive from the cities. Would rent again!
Very clean & cozy.
A wonderful place for our holiday gathering. We enjoyed the range of gathering spaces and activities on the property. The house and activity barn are in great condition and well equipped. Brad is a great communicator and detailed host. He truly cares about your experience at the property. The best property owner I've experienced in all my years of renting and traveling. Note regarding accessibility (we had my 85 year-old mother along): The house sits below the parking area, and there are wooden steps or a sloped asphalt path down to the house. The activity barn is adjacent to the parking area.
Had a fabulous stay at Little Balsam Lake Resort for our Family Reunion. Ages ranged from 8 months to 87 yrs old. House was perfect for our 23 family members. House gave us plenty of room to spread out, yet nice to all eat together in the large grand roomIf you are in to water sports (skiing, wakeboards get, etc) this is the place to be. Very protected area of the lake. Thanks Brad
Our family stayed the week from Fri July 19-26. We arrived just after 85 MPH winds ripped thru the area! Trees were down, power lines destroyed, and a large tree down on the tennis court. But the owners Brad and Richard came to our aid with generators to power the fridge as tons of food would have gone to waste had the power stayed off. We loved the new Bentley Pontoon Boat. It helped us know where the bottom of the lake was with the fish finder. The Jet Skies were a blast, and the fire pit and movie theater were perfect for late night reminiscing. We only have a reunion once every 3 years, and we are already talking about how this one has been by far one of the best reunions we have had. Even with the weather and power outage, we loved the setting and wouldn’t have had it any other way! Well done Brad & Richard! We wish you many happy future rentals! David & Katie R.
It was unanimous. Everyone in our family of eighteen (from the ages of 6 to 73) voted that this was the best family vacation we've ever had. The setting on the lake was gorgeous. Both buildings were tastefully decorated, comfortable and well equipped. There were so many activities both on the water, on the spacious grounds and in the buildings. We left with a big batch of wonderful memories and we're all looking forward to returning next Summer.
Little Balsam Lake Resort became our home away from home for our extended family. The house is clean, beautiful and spacious. There were so many things to do -- eat, swim, paddle, fish, play games, watch movies. The kids even used the tennis court to practice skate boarding. All 26 of us could gather for eating and relaxing inside and outside! When we needed to get away from the crowd, there were plenty of comfortable, private, relaxing spaces to nap, read or just sit. Thanks for creating such a wonderful get-away for big families. We will be back!
We had the unfortunate displeasure of having our reservation cancelled 2 weeks before our scheduled weekly vacation rental at a lake resort in Alexandria, MN. They double booked our reservation. This forced us to find another place for our 25 family members. We found that there were only about 5 VRBO houses in the MN/WI area that could accommodate the size of our family. For about the same price as 5 cabins, we were able to rent Brad's house on Little Balsam Lake. We were a little apprehensive spending a whole week with 6 different families in one house. But it turned out to be a wonderful time of rest, relaxation and relationships. Brad's house has the bedrooms conveniently tucked away, so you can not hear noise from the common area. The common area was very large and easily fit our family of 25 rainy days. The dock area was equally as large to accommodate our 2 boats and 2 jet skis. Everything in the house was well thought out to make this perfect high-end rental for our family. We already reserved for next year and plan on returning for the forseeable future.
Our group loved the property and had a great time. It was easy to coordinate with the owner. Planning to come back.
