Balsam Lake, Wisconsin
Located an hour outside of the Twin Cities the Loon Lookout offers a quick getaway and restful retreat. With two bedrooms, two bathrooms and an additional bunkhouse, this cabin comfortably accommodates up to 10 people. Fully modernized and complete with all the creature comforts of home. Right on the lake- for four seasons of fun, with excellent snowshoeing, fishing & swimming just out your door!
The Lake is yours! Fishing, boating, swimming, floating all right out your door. Bring your swimsuits and fun floatation rafts. Swimming off dock is clear and weed free - you can also explore and find great swimming areas throughout the Balsam Lake chain. The cabin rental comes with access to a row boat and small pontoon paddle boat (non motorized). You can also rent a boat at the Sunnyside Marina (715-485-3393) or bring your own, the Balsam Lake Beach public boat launch is located in close proximity to the cabin.
As the name suggests, common loons abound here in the summer! Wildlife watching, birding and photography are always good options so bring your binoculars and hiking sticks. Explore Balsam Lake or take a day trip, the cabin is close to both WI and MN state parks (Interstate Park in Taylors Falls MN and Crex Meadows near Grantsburg WI are two great places to explore). Wild Mountain is also a quick 20 minute drive away, with fun for the whole family. The cabin is right on the lake but tucked behind Pine Island, so it offers a peaceful lakeshore protected from the wind, nice for lakeside campfires and early morning coffee sunrises.
The leaves were exploding in color during our stay at Balsam Lake. The cabin was everything we needed for a relaxing getaway. Quiet, comfortable and beautiful. We brought our canoe to explore the lake and we found some lovely wineries/breweries nearby. We would absolutely stay again!
Beautiful property. Great location.
A little cabin on the lake but enough room for two!
My wife and adult daughter and I spent a lovely week at the cabin! Beautiful lake, excellent location as you can walk to the Thirsty Otter or walk to downtown! All in all a nice relaxing property and rental. Would do again without hesitation.
We had a wonderful time. The cabin was cozy and accommodated our group nicely. We had plenty of kitchen supplies. A few of us made use of the paddle boards and paddle boat. Kristin was a great host. She was quick to respond to our needs and questions. The water was clear and quiet in the small bay area. I would highly recommend staying here with a group of 4 to 8 people.
Loved lodging on balasm lake. Location within walking distance of town! :) everyone had a blasts! Community living in the area very pleasant and welcoming! Lots of laughter and menories on this trip!
Great!
Great house in great location! Kristin was exceptional with communications and very quick in responding to questions. Highly recommend staying!
The only negatives we would find are there is no bathroom or water in the bunkhouse and the property is steep if you have any physical limitations. However, neither of these impeded on our trip in any way!. The property is in a wonderful spot for watching wildlife from the cabin or on the docks and going on gorgeous walks. We enjoyed wonderful peddle boat rides to explore the lake. Kristin was wonderful host responding quickly to all and any concerns or questions! Great memories were made with our sister group. Three generations of 4 sets of sisters from the same family!
We had a great time staying at this cabin. It was perfect size for our family of six. Very nice lake, we rented pontoon and spent whole day on the lake. Very clean and nice cabin.
We had a great weekend at Loon Lookout, celebrating 20 years since college graduation. The property is well-kept and very cute! Exactly as described. Fun to sit on the dock and laugh, and we heard lots of loons. We would definitely stay here again!
Everything was perfect and would definitely recommend to others! Thank you so much for your understanding and quick replies always. :-)
First off, Kristin is such a wonderful hostess. She is so kind professional, thorough and happy. She provided everything our large group could ever need. She even allows you to bring your dog (it is only allowed in the garage or bunkhouse) which I think is wonderful. The memories we made together for our week’s stay will forever be cherished in our hearts. The peddle boat was used a lot, especially by the kids. Having two private docks made it super fun for the kids to catch never-ending panfish with sizes ranging from supper small to very large. Our beds were comfy and the property felt like it was ours. The kitchen and having two bathrooms available was nice. As I stated above, Kristin provided us with a lot of extra stuff which made it so convenient. I went home having no laundry to do (3 kids + husband) because the property has a washer and dryer. There was a lot of wildlife around us. We would see a bald eagle swooping down over the water to catch a fish daily. We could hear bullfrogs, the loons, and a bald eagle making music throughout the days. The lake is action-packed. We caught abundant bass and two small mouth bass. My husband even hooked a musky on accident. It ended up breaking the line but made for a wonderful story. Our time flew by and the kids all cried when we left. That is such a good sign. Thank you, Kristin, for allowing us to stay in your home. We will never forget our week at Balsam Lake.
Very enjoyable. Everything we needed in a beautiful spot.
Wonderful home decorated superbly. Bunk house was perfect for 15 and 17 year olds. Every detail thought of. We will most definitely rent again.
We enjoyed our stay at Balsam Lake WI. It was good fishing, the location was nice and quiet. If you have older children the bunk house would be great. However, our family had little ones and with all the steps down to main cabin and no bathroom we didn't have anyone stay in it. The cabin had everything we needed. Overall it was a fun and good vacation with our family.
Great communication from the host and easy check in. Perfect stay for 4 people - two good-sized and comfortable rooms in the main cabin with adequate room in the bunkhouse. I spent the majority of the mornings on the deck facing the lake having coffee and with an island only a short distance away, it felt like a secret cove, away from the world and made for a wonderfully peaceful way to start the day. Balsam Lake is an exceptional place to fish and when we weren't dining on the catch of the day, there were a couple local restaurants that were absolutely delightful. The only regret I had was that I did not take the peddle boat out for a cruise.
Had a great couple of days at this cozy cabin. Was everything stated on the site. Great for extended families with the separate bunk room.
So relaxing and enjoyable being on the lake with friends and family! Plus just a short walk to the Thirsty Otter
This was a great cozy cabin on a great lake. Cabin sits across from a small island which is nice keeps the boat protected and the noise down from the boats on the lake. Super easy to access more than enough space for the 5 of us on this trip. Would recommend this cabin for a great quick dive from the cities weekend away.
