Sheep Mountain Cabin is nestled on a 19 acre property just 30 minutes from the west entrance to Yellowstone National Park in the upper reaches of the beautiful Madison River valley. The newly renovated exterior features a 360° wrap-around deck with breathtaking views of the Henry's Lake Mountains to the east, the Madison Range to the north, and the Horn Mountains to the west. The south facing living room provides a dramatic, sweeping view of the Madison River Valley. At an elevation of 6333 ft. and located just 2 miles from the world famous Madison River, the cabin is the ultimate vacation base for outdoor enthusiasts!
All of the comforts of home are available to you during your vacation at Sheep Mountain Cabin. Your accommodations include fiber optic internet and WiFi, internet TV, a land phone line, and a washer and dryer. The lower level of the cabin has a full kitchen with Silestone countertops, new appliances, dishwasher, and circular sawn Douglas Fir floors. On the main level you will find the living room with astounding mountain and valley views, along with a cozy propane stone, circular sawn Douglas Fir floors, vaulted ceilings, and a ladder that leads to the spacious loft area. The cabin comfortably sleeps 8. On both the main and lower levels there is a bedroom with a queen bed and adjoining full bath. The loft area has two sleeping areas (one with a queen bed and one with twin beds) separated by a closet and 1/2 bath.
The vicinity of the cabin is rich in outdoor activities. Of course Yellowstone is the main attraction, but there are so many other wonderful things to do in the area. The Madison River has been called the top trout fishing river in all of North America. It consistently averages 2000 trout per mile with sizes ranging from 8 to 30 inches, and averaging 15 inches! It is no wonder it is officially listed as a blue ribbon trout fishery. The river starts in Yellowstone Park and then flows west, passing within a mile of the cabin at Raynolds Pass. After that, the river flows north and eventually joins the Missouri River.
Hiking opportunities abound in Yellowstone National Park as well as the immediate area of the cabin. The Henrys Lake Mountains to the east of the cabin contain the impressive Sheep Mountain (10,200 ft.), Coffin Mountain (9,967 ft.), and Targhee Peak (10,300 ft.). The Sheep Creek trailhead (elev. ~ 6400 ft.) starts just one mile from the cabin and climbs five miles before reaching Sheep Lake, at an elevation of about 10,000 ft. The trail continues through the Henrys Lake Mountains and connects with the Continental Divide Trail and with Mile Creek Trail, which eventually returns to the valley floor. The entire trail, from Sheep Creek trailhead to Mile Creek trailhead is about 25 miles. The area through the mountains is filled with bears, so come prepared.
Horseback riding is one of the most popular visitor experiences in the area. With rides available from one hour to overnight pack trips, there are options for everyone. There are so many other wonderful things to do in the area you will most likely run out of time before you can do them all!
We enjoyed our stay immensely, and we would come back. The hosts are extremely helpful and timely.
This property was EXACTLY what we were looking for during our Yellowstone trip. Remote enough to enjoy the scenery without the crowds, yet close enough to Yellowstone, West Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, etc. I only wish we'd had more time to explore further north! Our next stay in Montana will be definitely be at Sheep Mountain. The property was perfect in every way to be our home base. Plenty of room to relax, the convenience of the washer/dryer, and a full kitchen for family meals made it feel like a home away from home. We didn't want to leave! Thank you for a lovely stay! Hope to see you again soon!
This cabin is magical. There is an amazing view from every side of the cabin and the location was perfect (30 mins to Yellowstone). The host, Mike, responded quickly to messages and made sure we had everything we needed to feel at home. We HIGHLY recommend this cabin to anyone visiting the area. We would love to visit again soon!
The house was amazing! The 360 surround deck was spot on. Perfect directions to get to the house. Everything we could need was available in the house. We had no issues so we didn’t need to contact owners or property manager. A hot tub would be an amazing addition along with better water pressure in the showers. I would 100 percent recommend this place and would stay here again. We had 2 families (4 adults and 4 kids aging 8-13).
This was our first time visiting the Yellow Stone area. The location of this property is great. Close enough to everything but not too close. The cabin could use some updating but it has everything you would need. The showers are really tight and the shower heads are comically small. The beds are comfy enough. Its a wooden cabin so its kinda loud with others walking around. You can hear every time someone walks so go to bed at the same time lol. Theres no AC but its not needed. The views are beautiful. I would recommend they stock up on toilet paper and paper towels and have them available to guests. We had to go buy some. Overall a great stay i recommend it.
Location and accomodations were perfect for our family of 5. Beautiful home and setting in the scenic Madison River valley, very accessible to some of the best trout fishing in the country and Yellowstone NP. Easily one of our best family vacations ever. The only minor issue (nit-picking) were the sizes of the showers. A larger or elderly guest could have potential issues navigating the restrictive confines.
We had a wonderful week at this home. It was warm and cozy, close to the Madison river where my husband fished. Also a quick 30 minute drive to West Yellowstone where we ate and shopped. The Sheep mountain hike was beautiful and right out the door.
The house was very nice. We had a problem with main heater and the house manager tried to fix the problem right away. over all it was very nice.
We had a fantastic experience during out stay at Sheep Mountain Cabin. We are a family of 6 and there was plenty of space for all of us. The location of the cabin is very remote, but the spectacular views from the wrap around porch are well worth it. The access to Yellowstone from the West Entrance is a breeze from this cabin. Emailed some questions to the property management team before our trip and that email went unanswered – however – the communication with Mike, the cabin owner was flawless. He is super quick to respond and answered all questions that we had before and during our stay. The cabin did not have AC but even being late August – we didn’t need it at all during our stay. All in all, our trip was great. The cabin was clean and well maintained (apart from normal things you’d expect from a log home). We would recommend and would gladly stay here again in the future.
I seriously did not want to leave this cabin. It was absolutely perfect!! The views from the wrap around porch were spectacular, the layout of the cabin was perfect, plenty of room for everyone and the decor just added to the ambiance. The host was super quick to respond to a question I had upon arrival. I would 100% book this again, but for a longer stay next time.
My family and I had a lovely time at this property. It was close enough the Yellowstone and Bozeman but just far enough away to feel as though you’re really experiencing the landscape, not just the tourism aspect. My family and I would absolutely stay at this property again. The hosts were kind and hospitable and their property manager was available to help with a late night situation. 10/10 recommend
Our family of five had a nice stay here. It was a very remote location but access to Yellowstone NP was very easy. The interior of the house was modern and beautifully decorated. The only complaint is the beds were not comfortable, the mattresses felt very flimsy and soft. The wrap around porch was amazing but there was no outdoor furniture to sit and relax other than a couple of lawn chairs. We HIGHLY recommend eating at Connie’s Restaurant in Island Park, ID, only about 20 minutes away. Owner, please add this restaurant to the recommendations in the house binder! We also highly recommend attending the Yellowstone Rodeo, SO MUCH FUN! Overall our experience was very good.
Property had amazing views. It was clean and well maintained. Great to sit on the deck with a cup of coffee or glass of wine, to appreciate the 360 degree views.
The cabin was beautiful, had everything we needed, and the views were absolutely stunning! There were white-crested mountains from every view of the wrap-around porch, and we were amazed to learn that one was in Idaho! The drive to West Yellowstone was gorgeous and quick, and we loved the little town of Ennis so much, we went twice. We will definitely be back!
Loved the location. The cabin was beautiful and we all enjoyed our stay here. If you are looking for a quiet and peaceful vacation this is the perfect spot!
Comfortable cabin with plenty of room to stretch out. Amazing views and so quiet. Easy to find and access surrounding towns and Yellowstone National Park.
