The Saving the Longhorn Cabin portrays the story of how the Texas Longhorns were brought to the Wichita Mountains in 1927 in an effort to save them from extinction. The late Earl Drummond, Forest Ranger and Cache resident, played a vital role in selecting these magnificent bovine.

Many say that The Lazy Buffalo resembles an Old West Town. Our Cabins are similar to a classic motel layout. There are charming touches throughout the property along with modern offerings such as Wi-fi, Netflix, and the convenience of self check in.

The Saving the Longhorn Cabin has a comfy king size bed and a full bathroom with a large walk in tiled shower accented with glass blocks. Knotty pine and corrugated tin are used throughout the spacious cabin. Stained concrete floors and tin ceilings really add a rustic yet elegant touch. The kitchenette area has a mini fridge, k cup coffee maker, microwave, along with table and chairs.

Nestled at the foothills of the Wichita Mountains, The Lazy Buffalo offers 13 individually themed cabins and a bunkhouse. Each Cabin is uniquely decorated to capture the essence of the Wichita Mountains and the history of our hometown.

During your stay, enjoy complimentary Netflix and Wi-Fi or unplug and take in the beauty of our area. Watch as the sunsets over the plains from the long covered front porch while lounging in the wooden rockers. Southwest Oklahoma sunsets are truly worth witnessing.

Sip on a cup of coffee to get your morning started right and end your adventurous day gathered at the covered picnic area while enjoying smells from the charcoal grill. Yummy marshmallow goodness at the fire pit is a memorable way to cap off the evening or choose to relax under the stars in the back of our vintage star gazing truck, located just a short walk from the cabin.

Both kids and adults will love tossing horseshoes and playing old fashion games. Toss Frisbees at the disc golf stations, drop giant checkers to make a Connect 4, create music at our interactive music wall, or team up for some volleyball action. We are always adding new outdoor activities. Don't forget to snap some memories at The Lazy Buffalo photo ops.

The Saving the Longhorn Cabin displays copies of original photos from the Earl Drummond collection. Earl was a longtime Cache resident and Forest Ranger in the 1920s of the then called Wichita National Forest and Game Preserve. Earl helped in selecting the best Longhorn Cattle among thousands to bring to the Wildlife Refuge to preserve the breed from extinction.

Great place! Very convenient for visiting Wichita National Wildlife Refuge. Cute decor and some nice amenities, like a few complimentary snacks, extra blankets, and bottled water. But Note: Bring microwavable plates/bowls/cups if you plan to microwave anything. Only a few Styrofoam plates/cups, plasticware, and napkins are provided.

This is a convenient location with access to the Wichita Wildlife Refuge (which is beautiful), clean and fun themed room. The hostess was very responsive when we needed her! Definitely recommend.

The host was great at the communication. Only issue was that I could not find the lock box easily that stores the room key. I am short and it was at a bit high place from my view. A kind guest helped me to locate it. The lodge was close to the Whicita Mountains so that I was able to go back and forth to enjoy the scenery during daytime, sunset, and sunrise.

Truth in advertising! Each of the 8 cabins I rented for my family reunion in the Wildlife Refuge were tastefully decorated with Art and furnishings in different Western frontier themes. Impeccably clean. It was easy to be together to play old fashioned games or get some peace and star gazing in the wide open sky. I was unnecessarily worried about the check-in/out. Julie was always immediately responsive. My only suggestion is to have baby beds available to be reserved ahead of time. It was a uniquely pleasant experience that set the mood for the whole reunion.
