Nathrop, Colorado
This cozy cabin is located in the Chalk Creek Canyon town of Alpine. Known locally as “The Foreman’s Cabin” it was built in 1881 during the height of the Mining Era in Colorado.
The historic charm of this cabin tucked in an Aspen grove, combined with modern conveniences provide a very special Rocky Mountain experience.
The main cabin has one bedroom with a queen bed that sleeps two. Additional sleeping options includes a murphy bed in the Livingroom.
The second bedroom is an unattached “Bunkhouse” with a full size bed, located directly behind the main cabin.
The cabin has been updated with a full kitchen, ¾ bath, living and dining area, mud room washer dryer, with a wood burning fireplace and central heat. Air conditioning provided by Nature itself!
Large screen TV, WIFI, phone available
Local Artisans work can be seen throughout the cabin, in wood, sculpture, mural, quilts and paintings.
Beautiful, peaceful mountain-air retreat! We couldn’t have been happier with our stay. It was the perfect location for our family of 4. Bob and Cynthia were amazing hosts. The hospitality of the entire community was top notch.
Perfect cabin they have thought of everything you will need. Clean, and close to St.Elmo Ghost town.?
Everything was perfect we were close to the ATV trails which is what we come out there to do the house was well stocked seeing lots of wildlife while we was out there totally enjoyed week we was there
Had a great experience. We loved the cabin and the view and location to hiking trails and close enough to town for dinner. Plan on coming back to the area next year.
My wife and I, our 3 small kids under the age of 4, and my brother-in law and his wife all comfortably stayed in this cozy cabin and bunk house. The cabin itself was great, fully stocked with all supplies, utensils, and even a few complimentary snack bars, oatmeal and a few small sacks of food to feed the chipmunks down the road where provided. We enjoyed seeing deer in the yard every day, sitting next to the fire at night (stargazing) and being in close proximity to so many things: swimming at the hot springs, catching trout at the local lakes, hiking, mnt biking and dinning in downtown Buena Vistia where there's plenty of great options. Our kids loved playing with the Lincoln Logs the owner provided and playing in the small stream that runs parallel to the home feeding into Caulk Creek. Bob, the owner, was a delight to work with. He was quick to respond to us and was professional in dealing with an incident that left a stain on his patio. (a citronella candle melted in the sun and leaked wax). Also, we followed all the cleaning procedures but shortly after leaving the cleaner emailed us citing that we destroyed the home and that we would be losing our deposit. We believe it was an over-reaction to the candle as Bob quickly got involved and called us to confirm that nothing was destroyed, the candle was an unintentional accident, and he made sure we got our full deposit back. We will always remember the great experiences and memories made with our family on this trip.

Dear Bob, we were so happy to have found your gem! We loved the location of this cute cabin in Alpine and it's proximity to the Colorado Trail and St. Elmo! It was super clean and very well stocked. Bob was GREAT to work with and very helpful and kind! We will be back for sure since we love the area and it is very drive-able from Denver. The main bed was a bit small(likely a full) for us old folks. Also, I was forced to make a fully refundable damage deposit of $150 plus pay for damage insurance at $99. Of course I got the refundable damage deposit back but lost out on the Insurance. I would have preferred a larger refundable damage deposit and no damage insurance but Bob may be doing it to ensure he is properly covered if he got a bad renter!! Thanks Bob!! Sincerely, Harold & Marij Neal
The kids had Fall Break for 5 days - we live in Kansas so we had to allow 2 travel days - wish we could have stayed longer but the 3 days we were there we made the most of it and did as much as we could. We hauled our ATV out there and had so much fun riding the trails to St. Elmo, Hancock, Tin Cup and taking in everything to do in the area. The kids loved hand feeding the chipmunks at St Elmo and going to the General Store. We didn't eat out at one single restaurant and ate all of our meals at the cabin and cooked steak and shrimp on the outdoor grill and had a fire going almost nonstop in the wood stove every night. Everyone in the family loves photography and there is so much beauty and things to photograph in this location. The other thing we liked about the area is all of the history when it comes to mining in that area and I can't wrap my arms around the fact how these folks lived and worked like they did with the little resources they had. The owners of the cabin are also extremely pet friendly - they had all sorts of accessories for us and our dog including dog waste bags, leashes, food & water bowls, pet blankets, etc - I've never seen anything like it. The cabin itself was very clean and immaculate and was very well furnished with everything you needed for a comfortable stay. The wood stove was already set with kindling and firewood so all we had to do was light a match ! If you're looking for a cozy, historical and comfortable place to stay then this is the place for you.
Great stay at the cabin. Stars at night are unbelievable. Chipmunks at St. Elmo’s were fun. Caught lots of brook and brown trout in chalk creek. Cabin has everything you would need and is super comfortable. Got a special place there.
The Foreman's cabin is everything you hope to find in a Colorado cabin; rustic, comfy & cozy with a beautiful view from the front porch and the peaceful sound of a creek running by. This home is well-appointed with all the conveniences of modern living. Much roomier than I expected. It takes a solid 30 minutes to get into the town of Buena Vista but, there are things to do closer (hiking, fishing, mountain biking, hot springs, ghost town) all within 5-10 minutes. Although the cabin sits in a subdivision with other homes close by, the trees are so dense that you feel somewhat secluded but, not too remote. I personally don't mind being remote because I like the privacy. This still felt private. The owner, Bob, was wonderful to work with. Thanks, Swift family, for sharing your delightful cabin with us. A great VRBO experience.
