Stanley, Virginia
This recently renovated cabin is located high in the Blue Ridge mountains at around 3,000 feet elevation. It is in the same area as the Shenandoah National Forest and this property borders the park land. You will not see another human being for a half mile in any direction, but you'll see plenty of deer, bear and wildlife! Inside the cabin, you'll find spacious living areas, comfortable bedrooms, a fully stocked kitchen, fast Starlink internet, and large HD smart TVs.
When you look up "remote getaway" in the dictionary, there's a picture of this cabin! :-) Come to rest, relax, have fun and take pleasure in nature's finest wonders. Leave business, nagging email and your hectic work schedule behind for something quiet, peaceful and relaxing!
We've recently worked on filling out the beautiful outdoor area beside the cabin with a new charcoal grill and firepit. This yard area has beautiful views of nature.
This cabin is located "up Tanner's Ridge" as the locals say. In the pictures, you'll see two pictures showing the beautiful overlooks and mountains that you see as you drive to and from the cabin. You'll want to stop and get your own pictures on the drive.

PLEASE NOTE for November - March bookings: During these winter months, a four-wheel drive (4WD) or all-wheel drive (AWD) vehicle is required. While there are plenty of dry weekends during those months when a regular vehicle would be fine, you cannot know that in advance. Please take this warning seriously for those months. For the rest of the year, regular 2WD vehicles are fine.
We really enjoyed our weekend at Red Roof. On Friday I needed to get some work done so we went to Gathering Grounds in Luray to use the Wifi (since the cabin only has satellite wifi). Perfect if you need to do the same. We cooked dinner and played the provided board games. On Saturday, we parked at the top of the neighborhood and walked down the road to hike the Fire Road (no car access or parking). It took us up to Skyline where we enjoyed the view at the Tanner's Ridge overlook. It was about 4.5 miles roundtrip, including the portion from the parking lot to the Fire Road entrance. Then we visited Wisteria winery. Lots of outdoor space for us and the pup to chill. Sunday, we got a good bit of snow. It was gorgeous and our dog loved being able to play in it off leash. Plow didn't show up for the driveway so make sure you take the 4WD/tire chain warning seriously! We lost internet for a bit but just needed to brush the snow off the satellite. We would go back!
We loved our stay. The cabin is very cozy with great views of the Shenandoah mountains and valley. Close to hiking trails. We got some snow and it was beautiful.
We had a wonderful time staying at the Red Roof cabin! The house itself was perfect! Clean, equipped with everything you could need! The only downside would be the off roads to get to the cabin; I would say you definitely need 4 wheel drive and that you should make sure to get there in the day time. We arrived right after the sun set and it was foggy and we had a really tough time getting to the cabin in those conditions (and we had a Jeep!) Other than that we really did have a wonderful time, the screened in porch is amazing, and the surrounding area is beautiful!
Nice hideaway in the mountain. Driving on gravel road is a big challenge unless you have an SUV. Otherwise a nice and relaxing experience.
Loved our time at the Red Roof Cabin! It is a quaint little house nestled deep in the woods near Shenandoah National Park. It's about 40 minutes to the Park entrance, where we enjoyed 2 days of hiking and driving the scenic Skyline Drive during the peak fall colors. The cabin is clean and accurately portrayed in the photos. We enjoyed mornings and evenings on the screened porch's rockers. The kitchen is well supplied with cooking utensils, pots & pans, dishes & glassware. It would have been helpful, however, to have plastic wrap, aluminum foil, napkins and small containers with lids, and we passed along those recommendations to the owners. The roads leading to the cabin are very steep and windy, but the owners provide very good directions and maps. It was a great location for a fall getaway!
My husband and I enjoyed our long weekend at the Red Roof cabin. The cabin is very nicely updated but had some nice rustic touches. House was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The house is a bit difficult to get to since you have to go down a lot of gravel roads with steep hills. I can’t imagine doing the drive in the winter.
It is in the woods - very serene.
Great property and a great stay. Were surprised by the amount of travel on steep gravel roads to reach cabin, some of which are in need of repair!
Paul was great at keeping contact and communication from the time we booked and throughout our stay. House was super cute and clean. Very relaxing weekend.
My sons, dog and I enjoyed an incredibly relaxing getaway over the July 4th holiday. From the moment I confirmed the booking, communication with property management was remarkable. I received frequent emails with check-in procedures, directions and suggestions on what to bring. They responded promptly when I had a question and could not have been more friendly. When we arrived, the cabin was beautifully updated and incredibly clean. The kitchen was stocked with any utensil and appliance you can imagine, the beds were comfortable with TVs and ceiling fans in both bedrooms and nice quality bedding, ample lighting in all rooms and the water pressure was great! Every detail was well thought out. The cabin was quite a distance off the main road, so I was happy to have an AWD vehicle and my sons as “co-pilots” to help me navigate the steep gravel roads. We spent the majority of our 3-night stay at the cabin, taking walks along the private road and hanging out on the screened porch and around the fire pit. We ventured out to Luray Caverns one day which was a great experience as well. This was my first experience renting a cabin, as I usually prefer the high-end hotels in the middle of large cities, but chose this option due to COVID-19 and I’m so glad I did. We made memories that will last a lifetime. Thank you Red Roof Cabin for a wonderful stay!
