Brightwood, Oregon
New septic system, built in heaters and queen bed as of 2022!!
Rustic original 1942 cabin on wooded 1/3 acre in Brightwood. Cozy, mid-century feel. Woodstove, high ceilings, lots of charm. Play games, listen to old records, make waffles, chill on the porch or hammock, walk your dog to the river, walk/bike to the country store - or just binge on Netflix. Good dining, great hiking, mt. biking, swimming at MIrror Lake, Skibowl adventure park with snow tubing + summer 1/2 mile slide - all within 15 min! 30 min. to OR's best slopes at Mt. Hood Meadows/Timberline Lodge!
Cabin has 2 bedrooms and sleeps 4. A luxury queen bed is in the main downstairs bedroom. A sturdy ladder leads upstairs to a small, low-roofed sleeping loft that has one full-sized bed and one twin bed divided by a privacy wall. (Note that NOBODY UNDER AGE 9 is allowed on the ladder or in the loft.) The living room big cushy chair folds out into another twin bed.
The cabin is very comfortable with lots of windows, and retains a mid-century rustic feel. The primary heat source is a woodstove, which cranks plenty of heat - there are also built in space heaters. (Note cabin is uninsulated). But it also has modern conveniences - brand new plumbing with new tiled shower, toilet, water heater, and electrical system, a fully supplied kitchen with a new dishwasher and fridge, and a vintage stove that works great. There's a also a new washer and dryer.
If you just can't get off the grid, there's hi-speed WiFi, a large antique desk and printer, a flat-screen TV (no cable, but streaming Netflix, Amazon, Roku, Hulu), and a Bluetooth speaker. A large covered front porch has an outside dining table and Adirondack chairs. In the very wooded backyard, in good weather months there's a propane BBQ grill, a picnic table and two hammocks. In summer, the cabin is shaded by the woods and well cooled with many fans, and bikes, helmets and a pump are available. On cooler days and nights, you can drink hot chocolate by the wood stove,. From October to April, a fire-ring is available for small bonfires.
There are many games, books and puzzles for children and adults. A booster seat, high chair, portable crib and kiddie pool are available.
Well-behaved dogs of selective breeds are most welcome (as long as they are cleaned up after); dog dishes, a blanket and toys are supplied. SORRY NO CATS or other pets allowed.
The cabin is far enough from the highway to hear no road noise, and close enough to the Salmon River to hear it rushing. The neighbors in the subdivision are nice, mostly families or retired, and very quiet. Many good restaurants and taverns are within 5-10 minutes; several in historic buildings.
The cabin is located 20 minutes to Skibowl, 30 minutes to historic Timberline Lodge and Ski Resort, and 36 minutes to Mt. Hood Meadows, one of the largest ski resorts in Oregon. Several sno-parks offer sledding and cross-country skiing.
In warmer seasons, you can take a short walk down to the Salmon River or bike to the Brightwood country store on one of our bikes. It's only a 5 minute drive to fabulous old growth hiking at the Wildwood recreation area, which has a wild salmon viewing station under the pristine Salmon River. Or 5 minutes in the other direction to lovely Middle Earth-like Barlow Wayside park. The huge Sandy Ridge mountain bike trail system starts only 2 miles from the cabin. It's only 10 minutes to the Zigzag Ranger Station and historic towns of Welches and Rhododendron and 15 minutes to the Salmon Huckleberry Wilderness Area with its famously beautiful Old Salmon River Trail. Slightly further, trails at all levels lead through the Mount Hood National Forest to swimmable lakes, rushing waterfalls, historic pioneer sites and alpine wildflower meadows with 7 mountain vistas. (Or, if the season is right, to huckleberry fields or wild mushrooms.) The very fun Skibowl summer Adventure Park is only 20 minutes from the cabin, with bungee jumping, ziplining and a 1/2 mile alpine slide, across the street from the restaurants and breweries of historic Government Camp. The Timberline Lodge and Mt. Hood Meadows ski resorts are only a short distance further up the mountain - they often have summer events including wine dinners and hiking via chair lifts.
We had a wonderful stay in this great rustic cabin. The kids loved the loft and we loved hearing the river at night.
Had a wonderful time with my girl and our pug. Went to timberline to find snow and enjoyed the vintage records and the Woodstove.
My son and I had a wonderful stay at the cabin. The beds were very warm and comfy. The cabin was inviting, with a larger table to eat meals and play cards while listening to records. The kitchen had all the amenities and even great coffee and hot chocolate. Food was easily purchased at the nearby Thriftway and there were dozens of fabulous hikes to take. We couldn’t keep the firewood stove lit, but the heaters were enough and there were multiple throws to snuggle with. The cabin was clean and had all the best “cabin” features. Highly recommend!
Took my partner, two boys and our two dogs to the mountain for Christmas. The cabin is adorable. Very cozy for our party, but we managed just fine. The boys loved the loft and enjoyed Santa’s visit through the wood stove. ;)
Loved the cozy cabin! Had a nice quiet evening, watched Star Trek and snacked out while we prepped for a hike at Mt. Hood. Very close to the mountain. Excellent quiet neighborhood. Jost responded quickly to questions. Highly recommend.
Comfortable beds, great location.
It was perfect for our little stop over. It’s a very rustic cute cabin. We will definitely stay again!
We enjoyed the vintage atmosphere of the cabin and especially the real record player and music selections. The location was perfect for exploring the variety of experiences available around Mt. Hood. Be aware the ladder to the loft is steep, and ceiling low, so not for the faint of heart. We loved having coffee on the front porch and we comfortably cooked all our own meals. There's even a little dishwasher! We would have liked to open the windows in the evenings, but there are no screens on the downstairs windows. Overall we had a great time and loved our stay here. Highly recommend, a fine combination of rustic and modern.
Adored this place , it was perfect for our getaway! Can’t wait to go back .
Our stay was really nice! I love the cabins vintage feel and the loft. The location is perfect. 15+ minuets to Sandy. 30+ minutes to Gov Camp. The property is super cool too. We even extended our stay by one day! Would love to stay again. Pros: * location * fully stocked vintage kitchen * record player * beautiful vintage cabin * wood stove (works really well) Cons * shower has enough hot water for one person only * no wifi information, listing info, door code, or cleaning list is listed until you request it from Judy the day of and she sends a pdf
We felt we had been transported back in time! Such a neat place! The bed was so comfy, the shower hot, the woodstove and extra heaters got the place plenty warm! It is a great location for all the fun on Mt Hood.
This cabin is cozy, has all the amenities you need. I was pleasantly surprised and how well stocked the kitchen was with pot, pans, utensils, etc. It was super quiet and the wood stove kept it toasty warm. Finding it was a breeze, and it was only a 25 minute drive to the Nordic Trails. I can not wait to take my husband. The only down side, I was only able to stay one night! Thank you Judy for a great escape.
Was a really nice little cabin, enough room for everything we needed!
I really enjoyed listening to Lois Armstrong on an old record player while eating dinner next to a fire in wood stove. Kids enjoyed the loft.
It is perfect place! I would totally come visit in the future.
Cute little cabin with everything needed. The bed could have been more comfortable otherwise it was a nice stay.
A fun quaint little cabin in the woods with a vintage flair!
Property was awesome, just know getting to the additional beds is a bit difficult, especially if you need to use the bathroom in middle of the night.
This cute little cabin was exactly as described!! We were there during a heat wave and with the trees and fans we were very comfortable. The access to the river was greatly appreciated. This place had everything we needed for our stay. I would stay there again!
Quiet, close to Mt Hood and lots of hiking trails. Comfortable beds, small kitchen, though has everything you need. Record player is a nice added touch.
It had everything we needed, was very peaceful, and comfortable! We would definitely stay here again.
My family had a great stay at this cabin, for our Mt. Hood exploration. It’s in a nice quiet neighborhood, and close to the river. This cabin had everything we needed for our stay. This was a nice base camp spot, as it is close to everything. If you’re looking for a rustic cabin, you’ll want to book this one!
