New septic system, built in heaters and queen bed as of 2022!!
Rustic original 1942 cabin on wooded 1/3 acre in Brightwood. Cozy, mid-century feel. Woodstove, high ceilings, lots of charm. Play games, listen to old records, make waffles, chill on the porch or hammock, walk your dog to the river, walk/bike to the country store - or just binge on Netflix. Good dining, great hiking, mt. biking, swimming at MIrror Lake, Skibowl adventure park with snow tubing + summer 1/2 mile slide - all within 15 min! 30 min. to OR's best slopes at Mt. Hood Meadows/Timberline Lodge!

Cabin has 2 bedrooms and sleeps 4. A luxury queen bed is in the main downstairs bedroom. A sturdy ladder leads upstairs to a small, low-roofed sleeping loft that has one full-sized bed and one twin bed divided by a privacy wall. (Note that NOBODY UNDER AGE 9 is allowed on the ladder or in the loft.) The living room big cushy chair folds out into another twin bed.

The cabin is very comfortable with lots of windows, and retains a mid-century rustic feel. The primary heat source is a woodstove, which cranks plenty of heat - there are also built in space heaters. (Note cabin is uninsulated). But it also has modern conveniences - brand new plumbing with new tiled shower, toilet, water heater, and electrical system, a fully supplied kitchen with a new dishwasher and fridge, and a vintage stove that works great. There's a also a new washer and dryer.

If you just can't get off the grid, there's hi-speed WiFi, a large antique desk and printer, a flat-screen TV (no cable, but streaming Netflix, Amazon, Roku, Hulu), and a Bluetooth speaker. A large covered front porch has an outside dining table and Adirondack chairs. In the very wooded backyard, in good weather months there's a propane BBQ grill, a picnic table and two hammocks. In summer, the cabin is shaded by the woods and well cooled with many fans, and bikes, helmets and a pump are available. On cooler days and nights, you can drink hot chocolate by the wood stove,. From October to April, a fire-ring is available for small bonfires.

There are many games, books and puzzles for children and adults. A booster seat, high chair, portable crib and kiddie pool are available.

Well-behaved dogs of selective breeds are most welcome (as long as they are cleaned up after); dog dishes, a blanket and toys are supplied. SORRY NO CATS or other pets allowed.

The cabin is far enough from the highway to hear no road noise, and close enough to the Salmon River to hear it rushing. The neighbors in the subdivision are nice, mostly families or retired, and very quiet. Many good restaurants and taverns are within 5-10 minutes; several in historic buildings.

The cabin is located 20 minutes to Skibowl, 30 minutes to historic Timberline Lodge and Ski Resort, and 36 minutes to Mt. Hood Meadows, one of the largest ski resorts in Oregon. Several sno-parks offer sledding and cross-country skiing.

In warmer seasons, you can take a short walk down to the Salmon River or bike to the Brightwood country store on one of our bikes. It's only a 5 minute drive to fabulous old growth hiking at the Wildwood recreation area, which has a wild salmon viewing station under the pristine Salmon River. Or 5 minutes in the other direction to lovely Middle Earth-like Barlow Wayside park. The huge Sandy Ridge mountain bike trail system starts only 2 miles from the cabin. It's only 10 minutes to the Zigzag Ranger Station and historic towns of Welches and Rhododendron and 15 minutes to the Salmon Huckleberry Wilderness Area with its famously beautiful Old Salmon River Trail. Slightly further, trails at all levels lead through the Mount Hood National Forest to swimmable lakes, rushing waterfalls, historic pioneer sites and alpine wildflower meadows with 7 mountain vistas. (Or, if the season is right, to huckleberry fields or wild mushrooms.) The very fun Skibowl summer Adventure Park is only 20 minutes from the cabin, with bungee jumping, ziplining and a 1/2 mile alpine slide, across the street from the restaurants and breweries of historic Government Camp. The Timberline Lodge and Mt. Hood Meadows ski resorts are only a short distance further up the mountain - they often have summer events including wine dinners and hiking via chair lifts.

This cabin is in an excellent location, close to lots of Hiking, 15 minutes to Sandy, where there are plenty of restaurants and grocery stores. I loved having coffee out on the front porch every morning, although you can hear all of the traffic on the highway when you are outside. Was disappointed that there are no bikes available, also have to walk down the street And over to the river which takes about 5-10 minutes. the heaters that are positioned in every room kept the cabin plenty warm during my stay from mid September to mid October so there was no need to build a fire. Not sure if they would be warm enough during the winter months. There were also plenty of extra blankets available in the laundry room.

This is a rustic/vintage cottage, which I always appreciate over Ikea-tricked-out lodging. The native vegetation and mature trees around the house are lovely. There are a few occupied houses nearby, however we came on a rainy weekend, and no one was out and about, so it was quiet. Be sure to buy bundles of wood and kindling for the cozy woodstove if you are coming in fall/winter. Note: Given how rainy it was, we noticed that the three stairs were slippery. You might consider adding some treads. Overall though, we enjoyed our stay. Thank you.

Really fantastic cabin with a fun layout, plenty of space, and in a beautiful location! We stayed here prior to hiking the Timberline trail and it was the perfect kick-off spot. Listening to fun records made dividing gear and packing bags even more fun!

Had a blast! Such a warm, cozy cabin with a calming and serene atmosphere. The beds were comfortable, as were the couches and chairs. The cabin was very clean with all the amenities we could need. We enjoyed listening to the vintage records. There was lost of beautiful hiking nearby. We went to the Wildwood Recreation Area, the Zigzag Ranger Station, and Little Zig Zag Falls.

I love this cabin! It feels like the quintessential special cabin you always looked forward to going to each summer. We spent every evening and late into the night sitting out on the porch listening to the breeze in the trees, truly relaxing enjoyable experience. You really feel like you’re getting away from everything, but it’s so close to everything! The cabin is very clean and has everything you will need. Love this cabin!

Judy's vintage cabin in Hood's lush green forest is absolutely charming. We loved every minute of our rain-filled weekend there. From hiking along the Old Salmon River trail, to making homemade pizza in the cozy kitchen, to curling up with a movie before being lulled to sleep by the rain. Perfect weekend getaway. Thank you, Judy!

What a wonderful stay we had here! First time coming to Oregon and we absolutely loved it. Perfect location for hiking and seeing lots of waterfalls. Also close enough to Portland we got to see the city as well. Great stay away from the city. Highly recommend.

We stayed just one night at Judy's cabin. Everything was as described in the listing. I did initially overlook that woodstove is primary source of heat and need for guest to bring own firewood- this was easy to pick up at Thriftway though, and once you get the fire cranking the house is nice and warm. Beds very comfortable- the little loft upstairs is a neat touch, appreciated dog friendliness and coffee for the morning. Great location. Would recommend to others!

Stayed for two nights with my boyfriend. Exactly what I wanted. A mini escape into the woods to relax, play games and cook meals. Cabin has vintage vibes (built in 1942) and even had an old vintage oven, which worked great. Returned back to the real world feeling rested and relaxed.

Perfect short staycation on the mountain. So homey, so warm, so charming. So many accommodations and useful items in and outside of the cabin. Thank you for a great, affordable, recharge from the daily grind in the city. Loved it. It ended up raining and it wasn’t on the forecast, but sitting on the deck and listening to the rain on the cabin, in the forest, with the sounds of nature. Was just what we needed.

What a special cabin! From the moment we opened the door we knew we were in store for something special. This cabin has everything you need tucked into every nook and cranny. Judy did a great job with her historic piece of magic in the woods. We loved it and it was perfect for our family of 4. Anything over than that might be tight.

All the amenities we needed after camping for a while. We utilized the washer/dryer which was crucial for making our road trip east. The neighborhood was quiet and beautiful. Even more appreciated to escape the cold and rain for a night. I would recommend to any couple for a stay. Restaurants and parks in the area are stunning and this cabin puts in prime location to enjoy it all.
