We are asking our guests to bring their own sheets and pillow cases. Thank you for your understanding.
Moose cabin is a rustic log cabin with a kitchen with a water cooler to be filled from outdoor spigot, a dining area, a bedroom with a queen size bed and two twin beds in an enclosed sleeping porch and a nearby bathhouse with hot showers, lavatory sinks, and latrine toilets. Armstrong Lake is west of the cabins and therefore offers nightly sunset viewing at lakeside seating with a firepit for bonfires. Canoes and kayaks are available for use on the lake. A gravel swim beach near the ample lakeside seating provides fun family gathering. Nearby attractions include Wolf and Bear Centers, a mining museum, day canoe trips in the Boundary Waters, hiking or biking on nearby Mesabi Trail, and shopping for gear, apparel or local art in Ely.
It was a perfect little cabin. Wondeful lake and amenities.
Awesome place and really laid back! Will be back
Clean, quiet, well maintained and comfortable!
This was our 5th year to Wilderness Wind and it was absolutely beautiful and amazing as per usual. Jay is awesome and Lulu is a great greeter! We stayed in Moose and loved every minute. Everything was clean and organized. We leave little trinkets hidden in the cabin every year, it's fun to see them moved to different spots☺️. We will definitely be back next year!!
Rustic and chill. Love the flexibility and old school feel. Nothing luxurious but everything perfect. Thank you Jay for all you do to make folks feel welcome.
Property as advertised. Cabins are basic, but an upgrade from camping and clean. Lake nice, beautiful sunsets. Loved the canoes. Great location easy drive to Bear Head State Park or Ely.
The cabin is a place to sleep, eat & cook and it did its job spectacularly. Plenty of room for 3 people, a little tight with 4 - but workable.
Great place to get away from the rat race! Small, quiet, well-kept, simple. Nice lake, good for fishing! Resort has a great community fireplace and lots of kayaks and canoes to use. Proceeds go to a great organization helping troubled kids from the Chicago area. Quiet roads for walking/running. Close enough to Ely and Tower with plenty to do!
My kids and I stayed at Wilderness Wind in the Moose cabin. I chose this resort due to the location as it was near a few MN State Parks, something we do each summer! The cabin has a lot of character and met our needs for an upgraded camping experience. The resort is set up to do traditional camping tasks (e.g. dishes outside, bath house, etc). But also provides a few amenities like a refrigerator and stove for cooking. The view of the lake was amazing and we had access to kayaks and other watercraft for use if we wanted. Jay, the property manager was very kind and helpful. He shared information about the resort being a non-profit and how they support youth programming. That is pretty awesome!
Great Cabin and Great Camp! Jay and Loulou are excellent hosts! We will book again!
I absolutely LOVE Wilderness Wind, which was introduced to me by my partner. The cabins are rustic, the lake is beautiful and the people, are all so warm and welcoming. Definitely worth the trip from the city!
What a great little place to stay in the Northwoods. Jay was such an accommodating host and very responsive. We had a late check in and he reached out to us to let us know he would leave the lights on and if we needed anything at all to just call. He had a fire going outside to greet us. The setting was so beautiful right on the lake. The cabin was warm and inviting. Great sleeping.
We were fortunate to not have others staying at neighboring sites and our experience was very serene. Lake is very accessible and Jay is a great host with lots of area experience. Gazebo has a lot of helpful items if forgot for cooking. They have voth gas and charcoal grills to use. The North American Bear Center is a few miles drive and definitely a highlight recommended. Enjoyed Bass Lake Trail hike to the falls and is a great place to swim. Cabin windows are difficult to open, some cob webs that could have been cleared. Very dog friendly and Lulu is especially a great host dog. Overall, will visit again.
We loved our trip to wilderness wind. Rustic and authentic. Jay is wonderful. Our dog could not have enjoyed it more! Highly recommended!! We will be back.
I really appreciated the personalized check in as well as amenities available. It was great that they are dog friendly!
Bed was comfy, shower/bathroom clean, Great views. Fantastic host.
Property is close to the beach. Everyone was so friendly. Would recommend to anyone and we plan to go back again in the future
We all loved the rustic log cabin we stayed at. It was just as advertised. The caretaker, Jay, was friendly and attentive without being intrusive.
The first 2 days was cold and windy but we tolerated it and managed to catch lots of LMB and a few small walleyes and pikes. The Moose cabin that we stayed was plenty of room for the 4 of us. It was cozy and loved the location of Moose cabin because it was the closest to the bathhouse. Love the fact that there's hot water that we could do the dishes at the outside sink at the bathhouse. Showers were awesome. Jay was super awesome, he is such a friendly person, love the stories he tells us about the history of the place. We met his son Vince and he was very nice and friendly too. Lulu his dog was hyped to see people and friendly too. Our first night there we were alone, we had the whole resort to ourselves and it was super quiet and peaceful. We shared the resort with a couple the second night but they were quiet so it doesn't even seemed like there were others there too. Even though the nights were still cold but the wind died down and we ended up with some awesome sunsets and glassy water. Took lots of breath taking pictures that I shared on Wilderness Wind's Facebook page. What I love about this place is that it is quiet, peaceful, best sunset view, great host, and I love love the journals in the cabins that everyone who has been there shared. Make sure you take some time to read some entries. Keep up the good work on this resort. Definitely will not be my first or last. Thank you Jay for your kindness and hospitality.
We (3 women) loved our 3 nights at Wilderness Wind. We stayed in Moose which is nicely laid out, clean, well appointed and very cozy. Jay was wonderful...welcoming and helpful. We especially enjoyed the sunsets, evenings around the fire and kayaking around the lake. Very peaceful and relaxing setting with lots of fun nearby. Also liked that our stay helped support a great organization - Chicago Voyagers. Hope to return some day.
