So peaceful. The cabin was perfect had everything we needed. Listening to the loons everyday made my summer complete. Getting to and from the island is very easy we ate at the lodge food was very good . Had my first old fashioned. The staff at the lodge were very helpful and friendly. We hopefully can get back someday.
We loved our stay at Loon Island! It is like having your private slice of heaven. My husband and I relaxed to bird song, Loons and we heard wolf at night. Loved having the boat to go for rides daily. Cabin is so clean! Dave the caretaker makes you feel so comfortable and he lets you know he is there for you! A great unique experience.... one my husband and I will not forget! Look forward to going back! I miss it already❤️
The cabin is situated with no other cabins in view. Beautifully decorated Minnesota Cabin thats extremely functional. The boat was perfect for this lake even with high winds you can easily get around. The wildlife on the island made the trip. We cant wait to come back.
Very nice cabin and super location. Got lucky with the Northern lights and beautiful weather. Bed is comphy. It's as described with being off grid but it certainly isn't roughing it. Its luxury camping for sure. Kitchen is well equipped and we did most meals over a week on site. Lake had significant algae while we were there. Miners lake close by was great for a dip.
My husband and I booked over Labor Day weekend through the week. The cabin and little island were just perfect! I love the way Neil has carved out little areas to capture all the beauty surrounding you in Shagawa. The hammock area for reading or napping! The sunset sitting spot (perfect to share some wine and star gaze)! The fire pit area to host a small gathering of family to toast marshmallows and eat chili!! Perfection! The cabin is well appointed and cozy. We were very comfortable thru some wild weather and temperature swings! The provided boat allowed us easy access to Ely and all the fun there too! Couldn’t be more pleased! Also, caretakers Rob and Lee were friendly, responsive to questions and super helpful. FIVE sparkly stars!! Thank you!!
The property is exactly as described. We were looking for a boundary waters light experience as we are getting a little older and struggle with the full wilderness adventure. This cabin fit the bill perfectly. We enjoyed how fully stocked and appropriated the cabin was for being off the grid. We were able to cook numerous delicious meals. There was plenty of water, TP, paper towels, bedding and towels. We used the provided boat daily as we went fishing and into Ely for a fun day. We hooked up the trolling motor to help maneuver the boat while fishing. Overall, it was a very relaxing week on Loon Island. If you are looking for an off the grid experience, this place is for you. But you can still turn on the lights for a while and make some toast!
My family and I had an absolute blast! We stayed for 4 nights. The cabin is quaint and cozy and the electricity is also nice for modern conveniences when you have kids. We had one cold rainy day so it was nice to head in and explore Ely and went to the Bear Museum.
We stayed for 5 days. It’s a beautiful island with a cozy house. Host was attentive and helpful.
Everything was wonderful again this trip. Dave who picks you up is a great guy and willing to answer any questions and help out however he can. The cabin is outfitted with everything you need and the boat is perfect for the lake. Thanks again! And we’ll be back for sure.
We really enjoyed our time on Loon Island. The cabin was spectacular as was the quality of our stay. We enjoyed fishing with the provided motorboat and enjoyed a few walleye dinners. We left feeling restored and reset. Thank you!
Such gracious hosts! Thank you for the celebratory treats upon arrival ? So thoughtful and lovely. My husband and I loved getting to experience island living and off-grid simple living. Looking forward to our next stay! Thank you thank you!
Great vacation with great fishing in the boundary waters (we had 3 amazing fishing days with Mike Stark with Ely fishing co). Only thing that could be a touch better would be a slightly bigger motor boat (was a bit small when all 4 of us were in it). Great host
fun, very clean. hope to go back.
Best glamping experience you can ask for.
Just had the most amazing week in Ely! We came for a Daddy Daughter Wilderness trip and wanted to have an experience that was unique yet comfortable for us. Our stay on Loon Island checked all the boxes and more. Prior to the trip our amazing hosts Neil and Dave, the caretaker, were attentive and exceptionally informative which took so much stress out of planning. They really thought of everything! The cabin is such a gem, what sold me was the comfort of a building but the remoteness of being on the island (although we were only a short 10 minute boat ride from shore). The accommodations were top notch and we slept better than we have in at least weeks! Despite the lack of running water (being on an island of course) Dave and Neil provided everything we needed for drinking, doing dishes and even taking a pretty good shower! We were able to cook most of our meals over the campfire and made some meals inside on the stove as well. The island was a little paradise, we were there early enough in the season to miss the bugs and the crowds and we enjoyed watching all of the birds on the island. And of course, hearing the loons at night! Overall, we had a fun and truly magical week of memories and a big part of that was our stay on Loon Island. I cannot recommend this place enough or the hospitality and knowledge of Neil and Dave. Next time we're up in Ely (which I hope is soon) we're definitely staying at Loon Island again!
