Stayed Aug 11, 2023So peaceful. The cabin was perfect had everything we needed. Listening to the loons everyday made my summer complete. Getting to and from the island is very easy we ate at the lodge food was very good . Had my first old fashioned. The staff at the lodge were very helpful and friendly. We hopefully can get back someday.

Stayed May 17, 2021We loved our stay at Loon Island! It is like having your private slice of heaven. My husband and I relaxed to bird song, Loons and we heard wolf at night. Loved having the boat to go for rides daily. Cabin is so clean! Dave the caretaker makes you feel so comfortable and he lets you know he is there for you! A great unique experience.... one my husband and I will not forget! Look forward to going back! I miss it already❤️

Stayed Sep 2, 2025Very nice cabin. Clean and well kept. Having the John boat and canoe were a nice bonus seeing we were on an island. Lol. Host was very responsive and Rob was too. While we were there it got cold, so we needed to use the gas burner cast iron heating unit. Couldn’t get it lit and they were very helpful on that. Reading the instructions became helpful. Another knee slapper. Push in the knob while igniting with the pilot button. The instructions were on the floor attached to the legs. Hard to read, so maybe put those instructions in the great information binder that was there. Unfortunately for us, the four days we were there it got cold, windy, and rainy. Just kept coming at us. Late in the season I guess. We thought to use the john-boat with trawling motor and regular motor to fish and go into Ely, but with water and rain, we hunkered down. Great overall experience.

Stayed Jul 26, 2025We had an amazing time staying at the cabin on Loon Island. The cabin is beautiful, and is in fantastic condition. It has a full kitchen with all the pots, pans, plates, utensils, etc. you will need for cooking. The solar powered lights work extremely well, and we never had an issue using lights at night and charging devices during the day/night. Showering is simple using the collected rain water in the barrels outside and a battery powered shower head.Having the boat is awesome, and works very well for fishing and simply exploring the lake. It's a small motor so you won't be zipping around the lake, but it serves its purpose very well. We also enjoyed using the paddle boat and canoe.Outside the cabin there is also a firepit with a grill attachment that we loved to use, a charcoal grill, and a gas grill. There are a couple different places to hangout and have great views of the sunset as well. It is incredibly peaceful listening to the loons as the sun goes down.We had no issues organizing our stay with Neil and the caretaker Rob, and it was very easy checking in and out.Overall, our stay was wonderful. It exceeded our expectations, and we will definitely be back.

Stayed Jul 2, 2024We had an excellent time. Perfect setup for a family of 4. Just a short ride to town and Grand Ely Lodge made it a perfect balance of seclusion, while still being able to enjoy a dinner out. We will be back!

Stayed Oct 5, 2023The cabin is situated with no other cabins in view. Beautifully decorated Minnesota Cabin thats extremely functional. The boat was perfect for this lake even with high winds you can easily get around. The wildlife on the island made the trip. We cant wait to come back.

Stayed Sep 16, 2023Very nice cabin and super location. Got lucky with the Northern lights and beautiful weather. Bed is comphy. It's as described with being off grid but it certainly isn't roughing it. Its luxury camping for sure. Kitchen is well equipped and we did most meals over a week on site. Lake had significant algae while we were there. Miners lake close by was great for a dip.

Stayed Sep 2, 2023My husband and I booked over Labor Day weekend through the week. The cabin and little island were just perfect! I love the way Neil has carved out little areas to capture all the beauty surrounding you in Shagawa. The hammock area for reading or napping! The sunset sitting spot (perfect to share some wine and star gaze)! The fire pit area to host a small gathering of family to toast marshmallows and eat chili!! Perfection! The cabin is well appointed and cozy. We were very comfortable thru some wild weather and temperature swings! The provided boat allowed us easy access to Ely and all the fun there too! Couldn’t be more pleased! Also, caretakers Rob and Lee were friendly, responsive to questions and super helpful. FIVE sparkly stars!! Thank you!!
